Ah did not see this thread.

I starting Crossfit in middle of Dec, never lifted weights before and overall out of shape. I am coming along pretty well so far. I registered for the games to gauge where i am this year vs next on overall standings.

I did 100 reps with tie break time was 9:27.

I killed myself on my first 40 burpees pace, i went in wanting to do them around 15 a min, looked up and was at 20 in 47 seconds, stopped for a second and then i was done the fatigue set in ha. I finished the first 30 in 3:11 after that start.

The 75lb snatchs did not feel to bad, i got a few attempts at 135 and had one above my head and had to drop it.

Still feel pretty good from where i started, i am now going 5 days a week and starting to run twice a week before classes.

it's not a difficulty thing... If I wanted to train that way, I am sure I could hold my own.

What I don't understand is that in my train of thought, it's fun to see how much weight I can lift, or maybe getting a couple more reps at a given weight. for runners, maybe how far they can run or how far in a given time...

in crossfit, you are doing some half@ssed weight lifting and some grade school style calisthenics. a lot of the form is questionable at best (ie: kipping) all the while being timed. In a very general sense I understand it, but I guess I don't understand the cult like following it seems to have taken on.

Do I really care how long it takes me to do a 100 burpies mixed with some 135# snatches? You don't get built like a bodybuilder, nor do you get the strength of a power lifter. Sure some of the top guys/gals have decent builds, but if I am busting as in the gym, I better get massively yolked, or lift some epic weight... not just slim down a bit and move some half assed weight with crappy form 50 times in 8 minutes

Spoken like a true "body builder", like my friend that is huge and can deadlift 550+, bench a ton, and has zero flexability and could not run to the other side of the road if his life depended on it, but hey he's "huge".

Honestly though most people not into crossfit view it as cultlike.

When i first started all the members are very social and encouraging and i am actually pretty good friends with a lot of them already. It's different it's friendly yet competive at the same time. I honestly look forward to going and working out, and for me i like having a set plan daily of what i am doing.

It's not for everyone but honestly it has made a huge change for me where i actually enjoy working out.

Awesome! I'm sure next time you could probably get 135.

I was so tired after the 30 burpees (and the previous snatches and burpees) that even with lots of rest I couldn't even get the bar above my waist at 135#.

This is one of the things I like best about it. I can name almost everyone who goes to my gym. In every other gym in which I've been a member I might have known at most 5 people. And while everyone certainly is competitive, what I find more appealing is that everyone is also very supportive. Anyone who has already finished the workout usually cheers on the people still doing the workout. I know I certainly do. And when those people finish the workout they in turn join the people cheering on the remaining people. And then when we're all done we help each other put all the equipment away.

so he at least has size to show for his efforts and a 550+ dead??? and you being in crossfit since december now makes you an official judge of other people's goals and workouts?

I have been lifting/worked out since I was 15 yrs old; nearly 20 yrs now. As I have gotten older and my job interferes, I am unable to workout from may till october for about the last 8 yrs, but I workout hard for the time I have.

I have seen a lot of things come and go. I have tried a lot. What I see coming out of crossfit is more comical and cult-like than anything that appeals to person that has been around the gym before. for a beginner, I see the appeal, I really do... set plan, decent variety, just wanting to fit in and not being intimidated by guys, that in all honestly, look like me.

If crossfit does it for you, great. Though, your comments about your friend imply exactly the arrogant crossfitter that spends a couple months at the gym and is brain washed into thinking they are superior to other gym goers because they crossfit.

Not brainwashed stating the fact he has no endurance. If size is all you want sweet good for you. Your the close minded one posting in a crossfit thread.

Side note love 13.2, some of my best things just did 42" box jump yesterday and 155 lb push press today and 225 deadlidt last week.

This should be a good one. 115# should be light enough that everyone will be able to get through the shoulder to overheads so we shouldn't see any tiering like with the last workout. This looks like it will be more about stamina than strength.

Good luck!

And Zivic I am not trying to be a ass. Maybe I am a noob in workout and fitness to you. But I enjoy crossfit, already seeing results and enjoy going.

I am not close minded. I watch vids online, talk to people at my gym, watch them go through their workouts, read up on the WODs, etc. I posted here to try to figure out the appeal of it, and I get what I expected, a pompous, crossfit > your workout reply.

Crossfit seems much more popular with people like you that are noobs to the gym than it is with people that have worked out as a regular part of their lives. From what I see, it is more the social aspect of going to the gym and finding people you fit in with and if that's what it takes to get someone's ass off the couch, great, good for you. as a guy that has been a regular gym goer, it doesn't take a group/someone cheering me on through a set of kipped pull up and some burpees to get me to the gym.

this right here is big red flag... why do I want to bust ass at a workout, at a weight that "everyone will be able to get through"? You have guys working out for a few months doing the same weight/workout that guys that have been training for years. It doesn't scale that way.

My point is that the limiting factor will not be pure strength as it was last time but more likely stamina. That's what this workout will test. AMRAP = as many rounds as possible, and for this workout the time period is 10 minutes.

The deciding factor will be how many rounds completed (including partial completions).

Whats your target round? Top girls already posting 10 rounds ha

I was thinking 15 but if the top people are only getting around 10 then I may have overestimated what I'll be able to do. I guess box jumps will get ridiculous after 6 or 7 rounds. Hopefully, I can get 10.

Well 10 rounds is 300 total reps so would be a rep every 2 seconds. Thats a pretty crazy pace. I am going to shoot for 8 to 9 rounds.

I applaud anyone's efforts to get up and engage in activities their excited about. But I do think this Glassman guy is a moron.

no doubt, Glassman is a moron.

I'd prefer we kept this thread to Crossfit Games and not about the pros/cons of CF. The point of the thread was to talk about the workouts and the CF Games. I hope it can get back on track.

Sid and Black when are you going to do this?

Outside chance i might do it tonight after work, but probably will do at Sat morning again.

189 (6 rounds + 5 shoulder to overhead + 4 deadlifts)

LOL Wow I totally underestimated how hard the box jumps were going to be. I was able to bang out the shoulder to overhead and deadlifts pretty regularly but having to completely open my hips at the top of every box jump was extremely taxing. I was able to do the first set quickly but I think by the second round I was stepping up onto the box and that ate the most time.

I can't believe I initially considered 15 rounds as a goal. LOL.

Ya when you said 15 i was like wow you are truely beast mode there ha.

My goal i am going to try to hit is 8 rounds which i am not even sure if i can come close to that.

Did you jump down from each box jump or step down?

The first round I jumped up and down. The second round I think I stepped up and down for some and jumped and down for others. I think that's what I did for the rest (some stepping some jumping). If you can string together the jumps I think you should be able to hit 8.

Good luck!

I think i am going to skip the normal WOD today and just do a warmup and pratice a few rounds so i am not blown out on sat from 5 days a week going into it.
