i didnt SHOOT the car, i took one of my rounds out of my handgun, wiped it down and placed it on top of his car, where he would see it when he next got in his car. there was no escalation, he knew what i was alluding to.

I heard somewhere that you just put an unfired round on top of his car.

Reference to another thread. One guy spent the morning shoveling out his vehicle (he didn't have a driveway), occupied it with his trashcan or something while he went out. Came back, neighbors had requisitioned the spot, tossed the can into his yard, all the while they had a driveway they were too lazy to shovel.

With the small chance that the guy would go to the police with the round and file a complaint against you, I'd have bought another box of a different brand ammo and used one of those. If the cops come knocking on you're door, you can show you don't use that ammo.

Yes, get the police. If this guy is acting this irrationally, he probably won't be pleasant in a direct confrontation. Best to let the professionals deal with him.
Plus, if you try to tell him that the law is on your side, he probably won't believe you. If a law officer tells him instead, and also informs him that vandalism is a crime, then he might listen.

i live in a house now (not that apartment complex with the jackass college kid anymore) and i hate it when people park in front of my house. but, ive also gone out and pointed out the oil stains they leave, and they are pretty good about not doing it twice. being public property, they can park there all they want. talking to them about making the street ugly or dirtier (oil stains, leaks and such) works a ton better than gluing their winders. i havent done the 9mm on a roof in this neighborhood yet, but they all think im whacko as it is...

If it is a public street what you want and what is legal are 2 different things and what is legal trumps what you want. If you decide to take matters into your own hands and do something to someone elses property don't be surprised if they retaliate in kind.

i used a plinker round for that, i still had some left in my pistol from a shooting trip. my normal is gold dots for most every other occasion. my thinking was that i didnt want to throw away a good round. the whole scenario would go very differently now, that was before i had kids. now im a lot more careful how i approach situations, too much to lose
