Daily disposables here (focus). Started wearing contacts when I was your age, moved to the DD because I really am just too lazy to clean them every night. Of course, that's when they come out with no-rub solution, but oh well. Your health care may cover some (like 20%) of contacts if it's good, but odds are it will all be out of pocket. Be sure to compare online prices before purchasing from your doctor's place, because they will rip you off if you let them.
 
every time one of these threads comes up I am AMAZED that people would abuse their eyes by leaving contacts in many times longer than you're supposed to.
 
dont ask for any specific brand. let the optometrist recommend whatever he thinks best for you- hes the professional, and he can tell you what your eyes need.

Does this mean that you can't do continuous wear w/ the Acuvue Advanced, because thats what the doctor recommended.

i think you still can. it really depends how comfortable you feel with them.
 
As far as getting contacts in general, I highly recommend it. However, continuous wear is not a good idea even if you have a lens designed for it. Statistically, it's not much worse than daily wear(with a continuous lens), but these are your eyes, and you don't get a second pair if you screw the first ones up. Feel free to try it, but keep in mind that if you run into any problems, you see the doctor *right away* .. none of the typical "oh I'll wait a couple days and see if it clears up by itself" stuff.
 
I'm usually waking up and having ~5 mins to get in the car, so I like the idea of continous wear, since I could change them on the weekend, when I have time in the morning.
 
The one thing that makes me the maddest is that I have to wait 1 month before I can get my contacts and the "training".

what doctor is this? when i first got my contacts:

me: "i think i'd like to get contacts this time."
eye doctor: "all right, here's a pair. let's practice trying them on."

**twenty mins later**

me: "allright i've put them in and taken them out"
doctor: "good, it looks ok for now, come back next week for a followup."

one month? what kind of insurance do you have? nearly every doctor i've been to has a stash of contacts in their office in every brand and size for fittings.

don't listen to the people who keep their contacts in for months, they're going to kill their eyes. when i fall asleep with my contacts on, oh how it BURNS because my eyes have dried out.

really after a while, you become a pro at taking your contacts out and putting them in. in the morning it takes me less than 30 seconds to get them in both eyes.
 
Acuvue 2's here, best fit I've found. haven't tried their daily ones yet though, that'd be nice...I have an appointment Friday, gonna look into it.

Its a local doctor, and they were short on staff today I guess. (1 opth. and 1 clerk). I have no clue what my insurance is.
 
my prescription says soflens66 torics.. does that restrict me to only getting those? or can i pick a different brand. the soflens66 are 2 week replaecments. im thinking about switching over to focus toric dailies so i dont have to bother with cleaning. no rub is nice, but my eyes are alittle on the sensitive side and dry easily. so a fresh pair everyday seems like a good idea.

oh, to be on subject. when i went to an optomitrist for my contact lens exam, the optomitrist was only available 1 day of the whole week. maybe that's the same deal with having to wait a whole month to get the fitting.

From what I've read, prescriptions are only valid for the brand that it says.

Also, on my appt on May 20th, will I be getting trained and recieving a package of contacts, or will there be another date on which I have to pick them up?

bummer. time to go back re-eval my prescription i guess..

have you even tried on the contacts? and from the reply, it sounds like youre receiving your order.... for me, they gave me some test lenses to use for a few weeks. came back. had to slightly modify the prescription.. and then the final prescription and purchase of contacts.
 
I want to call them until I get a sooner appt. (possibly this or next week). What should I say? I am scheduled for May 20th, but thats way too far out.
 
Unless you have an astigmatism which would require a toric lense, I would say get Focus Night & Day contacts. They are much much better for your eyes, and hassle free.
