So can we all agree its probably a bad idea for a drunk girl to party with
some of the posters in this thread?
There's no denying that these guys (not just the two convicted, either) were a bunch of fratboyesque, overly entitled, stupid pieces of shit who did something completely vile and disgusting to this girl.
I have a long standing, lifetime hatred of these sorts of people and everything about how they choose to spend their time, entertain themselves, interact with one another, express themselves... everything.
The difference is, I am not one of these people who always thinks female = flawless angel, male = twisted, perverted devil.
My suspicion is that she was exactly like them, another stupid fucktard drunkard tool bag. The female version of them, and nothing better than that.
I am not as concerned as some with what stupid shit these stupid idiots got up to while they were underage drinking and what stupid shit they did to one another.
I feel like I'm being asked to view one drunken idiot as a perfect damsel victim, and another couple of drunken idiots as completely evil, irredeemable monsters. This doesn't ring true on either side to me.
A large part of why I'm arguing the side of this I am, is to bring some balance to this and try to get people to think about some of the double standards our society has. Because like nehalem said, if this was a 16 year old boy who got drunk off his ass and cried "rape" because a couple of drunk girls touched his wang, he'd be laughed off the planet by most people.
I'm interested in analyzing those double standards and either getting people to be more equal in their view of the genders, OR acknowledge the reasons why there are double standards, if we intend to keep those double standards.
I feel that society as a whole, and certainly a lot of posters in this thread, are letting emotion and feminist indoctrination cloud their ability to look at this with any sort of objectivity. This is evidenced by the reliance on personal insults, like the one you just said, against those of us who are taking a different view.
For you to imply that those of us who disagree are OURSELVES a danger to women, is a disgusting move.
In my personal life, I am about as nice, charitable, chivalrous and gentle of a person as you could care to meet. Because I explore intellectual angles that you don't, doesn't make me some sort of monster. The idea of me being at a "let's get wasted" style party is also about as out of step with who I am as a person, and always have been, as is possible.
