The report cites a US Department of Defense finding that China probably could not now enforce a full military blockade, particularly if a major naval power intervened, but its ability to do so would “improve significantly” within 10 years.

The military draws pretty evenly from all socioeconomic groups. I'm neither poor nor a minority.

What would be the point of turning Taiwan into a pile of ruins before capturing it? China can just wait 2 or 3 decades while it becomes a superpower and wait for them to ask for annexation.

I have to assume that refers to launches against US forces/territory, not Taiwan.

No doubt China could turn Taiwan into ruins via conventional means, but what's the point of killing millions and destroying any value in the territory you want.

I had always heard it was more like 20-25% who seem to favor unification with 70% who want things as they are or outright independence. Sure 25% is nothing to sneeze at, but that's clearly a small minority.
