Yeah, I bet 5D mk2 is going to be announced on that day.
Also, Someone decompiled Canon teaser flash and it shows it's to show everything on 17th.

None of the major photography forums have anything...

I got it confirmed by someone who is in the Cannon announcement convention.
That's why I didn't say it's official.

BTW,

Here's G10:

14.7 MP
1/1.7 CCD
28-140mm F2.8-F4.5
3 inch, 46,000 resolution LCD
109.1 x 77.7 x 45.9mm
350g

It's a good looking camera!

Still no articulating LCD, I guess. Anyone remember the G6 and its f/2 lens?

Oh well, I don't think it's better than the D700 :(

It could've been better....As my source pointed out, Canon waited to see what Sony A900 had to offer. After seeing A900 isn't much of a deal, Canon decided to dumb down specs of 5D mk2. That really sucks. Both for Sony and Canon users.

Anyway, it's hard to compare 5D mk2 to D700 directly. The 10 mega pixel difference may be nothing for some but for some, it's a big deal. I know some professional photographers to jumped to 1DS mk3 just because of the MP. Same goes for the video mode and other functions. For sports photographers, D700 would be better, for someone like me, I'd benefit more from 5D mk2.
What's important is that 5D mk2 is only $2700. Now, that really is something. It must be a sad day for those who jumped to 1ds mk3 just because of MP.

let's hope for under $2k by this time next year.
I wonder what the gen-one 5D used prices will be like? Because that's still a fine camera, and it has full-frame goodness.

I was seeing them for $1500 body only this weekend; wait until November and they'll be down to $1000-$1200. At least that is what I would pay.

lx3: faster, wider lens; smaller camera; still wary of the venus smear engine

g10: much longer lens; proven track record; maybe more noise than G9(people really need to stop comparing pixel noise); not very exciting (though i do like the integrated ISO wheel with the mode wheel).

What needs to be confirmed is wheter 9 af points utilize cross type sensors or not.
All the English sites I checked says that they're, indeed, all cross sensors. All the Asian sites report that the only center one is cross. My source hasn't confirmed it yet.

I knew you'd come through. Now I am torn. How should I spend $500? Also why do places like 17th Street Photo already have the LX3 in stock (for weeks I believe) and Amazon is still on pre-order?

Even the A900 is cheaper here, maybe Sony don't screw us quite as much as Canon?

well for one I think the 5DMk2 is similarly slotted as a high res still live camera just like the 5D. It perfectly served that purpose, don't expect canon to come out with a jack of all trades cam to cut into the 1D market...

amazon may be selling out? who knows?

amateur photographer wrote of the lx3: "the best compact we've ever tested." on the cover, no less.

I doubt the LX3 is selling out. The page has never changed :(

I want to buy from there b/c I have gift certificates in my account.
