If I'm driving, you're listening to my mp3 player or phone on shuffle. If you don't like any of the numerous genres I have, you don't like music, and your opinion is invalid.

A whole album of TS at one time violates the Geneva convention.

I can listen to just about anything with a bit of creativity and talent to it. 80s rave through death metal to candy pop, taking in a detour to opera and avant guard, resting for a while in grunge before moving through punk, folk and electonica.

Just don't make it bland. Life's too short to choose dull.

That's my issue with her. She's so bland musically. I sometimes get in trouble because I use her as my walking example of what's wrong with music today. I'm convinced the labels have blended down music to be non-offensive and appeal to preteen girls, which is TS. I couldn't tell you if she's one way or the other as a artist, she does make a great product for the masses though.

Some people don't want their music to be difficult in any way. They are at a stage in life where their relationships are tenuous, they are uncertain about themselves, what life's about, maybe where they are going, might go, what to do, etc. They gravitate to middle of the road music, performers/performances that are a common ground pablum. There are many declensions of this.

It is insidious. It can creep up on you without your knowing. When I realize I'm being lulled, effectively hypnotized by some music I turn it off, if I'm able to do so, and I usually am. This happens a lot! There's a whole lot of music that doesn't do that, thankfully! I prefer music that shakes you into wakefulness one way or another.

Geez, dude...TS and that Agdal chick aren't even on the same planet, looks-wise. Agdal blows her away.

Taylor Swift is cute...sort of. She has essentially no body. No boobs, no butt, no hips, no curves at ALL. She IS skinny, and she's cute...and that's good enough for many.

But if we're talking strictly looks....no, she wouldn't be the "hot chick" in most places. She's be the "she's cute and I'd hit it but she's stick" girl.

If you're comparing her to other actress or singer hotties? No she does not stack up at all. She wouldn't be in the top 10 list (maybe not top 20) of currently popular hotties.

As far as her talents go...meh. She doesn't sing that well. Certainly has a forgettable voice. She CAN sound okay...in other words, she can carry a tune sometimes, but she's no "great" in the sense that she's always in tune like a great singer typically is. Check her performance with Stevie Nicks to see how that goes.

She can write songs that appeal to the pop audience at the moment...I'll give her that.

My prediction: 10-15 years from now, she's forgotten. She'll probably still be touring and selling some tickets, but she'll be in Jessica Simpson territory...mostly forgotten.

I like mellow music, but elevator music is insipid. Many times I don't want to hear tight, predictable structure, so I listen to ambient, space, post rock... Elevator music takes real structured music, removes the musicality, and makes it white bread bland.

Haven't read the whole thread, but disliking Swift isn't a sign of pretentiousness. Swift is to music what tv dinners are to dining. Deriding Swanson pot pies isn't pretentious unless you live in the ghetto.

not pretentious.
She does make generic american pop music that contains always the same things or effects as countless other singers. Typical radio songs.
You may not mind it listening to it, because it's desigend exactly for that: being bland, so that nobody can hate it, but this also means it won't be liked much.

Even is I have rarely listened to her at all, she does have the whole pop music thing almost down to a science, she has a loyal fan base that she pays attention to, she hasn't tarnished her image, basically what many have said here all ready.

And she is hot. If she can get dissed by Victoria Secret models one year and come back the next and through it in a few faces of a few she is doing things right at many levels.

Good Lord, $1 Million a day, I knew she was raking it in, but not that highly.

That I'm tired of seeing Miley Cyrus 99% nude (pasties!) be it magazine spreads, music videos, award shows, etc. because it shows up on TV and news websites almost every time -- I don't go looking for it. She can do what she wants, it's just boring to see it over and over again so often. And I'm pretty sure she does it for shock/business value. On the other hand, maybe my problem is that the news keeps picking it up.

Miley may be pushing the limits and you and I can agree on that, but she's not that far behind TS in yearly income so something she's doing is working.

The music business has always been more image over substance but with file sharing the money is no longer in selling records or CD's so all the "artists" bank on making the money from concerts and appearances. When the game is so heavily weighted by image it's hardly a surprise that Miley and others do what they do to get attention.

Which makes TS's success all the more impressive given that she does NOT do the stripper act. The fact that TS's voice is sub average by even the crappy standards of today makes her success even more remarkable. In an industry with 5/10 voices and few much better than 7/10 TS is more like 3/10 and still rules the world.

I do find it hysterical that many here claim she's average looking at best. On what planet is TS average looking. Once again, given a choice between her and Nina Agdal it would be Nina 100% of the time, but would I pass up a shot at TS if Nina wasn't available???
