I can't presume to know what the person meant but I do know that folk see what they want to see which is usually something in the other person they don't like about themselves. Assholes, for example would be motivated to see in an opposing party how the members in it are assholes themselves. They do this to justify their own assholeness. You can't hate a fellow human being and very few people will notice themselves as assholes so one fines THE OTHER and make them out to be inhuman monsters undeserving of any respect for having a different opinion. It is this pressure to conform to group norms and demonize others that turns people into nasty sheep and ditto heads, vigilante packs and mobs. We have here, for example, a bunch of right wingers gathered to chortle over the nastiness of liberals.
If I were to judge what the person meant, I would say this:
The right wing, under the sway of the uncompromising idiologs known as the tea party are destroying the nation with their irrationality so our only option is to take them out at the polls.
I believe this statement is true and while I believe that the country will be better off when all these right wing idiots are dead, I see that only as factual data not a course of action. Every one of these 'idiots to me' that are destroying the country do so because it's what they believe is right and think I'm the real idiot.
All you can do is try to present the best reasons you can for the truth of what you believe and hope for the best.
Of course, in the case of the right particularly, in my opinion, huge sums of money are spent every day to warp people's thinking. This is easy to do because very few people are personally sufficiently secure to challenge everything they were conditioned to believe. There is only one kind or real education and it's unlearning everything you know, but sheep just want to belong.
