Maybe it's just the lack of experience but I have trouble picking out the Zerg units, especially on creep. They all have that same color to them. I'm not a fan of the overall art work either, things just seem more bubbly than SC. Not sure what they were going for.

It's rare that I remember to use the extra abilities. Though when an expansion is complete, I usually remember to drop 2 MULEs while I wait for SCVs to be build. I don't see the queen's ability being too much of a difference in most games since the larvae spawn pretty quick. It probably eliminates the need for multiple hatcheries at your main though.
Not fully sure how crono works, it speeds up some buildings but you can't build probes?

I've never had that issue with zerg, and people complaining about it got Blizzard to make creep look ugly to contrast the units more >.<

It's pretty critical you remember to use your macro abilities. Consistantly using spawn larva is like having an extra 1 and 1/3 hatcheries at your base for the cost of half a hatchery that means your army could be 16 zerglings larger if you use your queen over build hatcheries. Mules give you 270 minerals over a minute, which is pretty huge. It gets to the point where people aren't scanning at critical times because they know how bad their economy will suffer not muling. You can chrono boost your nexus and build probes 2x as fast or research stuff 2x fast or build units. It's not a channeled spell or anything you can be building from the nexus and still cast it.

Not scanning and only muleing is probably the worst thing you could do. Scanning and knowing what your opponent is doing so you can counter more easily > 270 mineral.

There are cheaper ways to know what your opponent is doing besides scan. Crap, if you have expos lined up floating a barracks over their base is cheaper.

not if your opponent is any good.

Reaper is the only viable scout resource wise and he falls over if anything hits hit midgame.

I see a lot of talk about how easy they've made things. I've only played the Zerg so far, but it certainly feels like they've given me MORE things to do. I can create queens, I have to upgrade overlords to be able to detect invis, lots of unit morphing, growing creep. Just seems very taxing on the pace of the game. I'm not sure why yet but that's just the way it comes across to me.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think this is a bad thing, I just don't believe they've made it easy like people are saying they have. Maybe when I get further into it.

Try putting your settings on low. It doesn't look bad, just different. I find the creep looks hideous on high settings.

I've had the beta files downloaded, twice, now for 2 days. Everytime i try to login, I get an "invalid version. please try again later" error.

It's frustrating. I let my PC run all night the other day just to download the files from the blizz torrent... that didn't help either.

How does it update to the new version?

oh man, I found the answer - and its buried on the SC forums, so I thought I'd share:

http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=23767559079&sid=5000

Basically, if you use firefox, your IE might be configured such that it blocks the launcher from grabbing patches.

For the players who download SC2, open the .exe, and it skips the patcher, but when you play says you have an invalid version...

I used to have this problem too, I tried manually downloading the updates and putting it in my SC2 folder, which had no updates folder.
This means our SC2 is fresh out of the box and non-updated. It cannot connect properly to the patcher to get the latest version.

Solution I used... I found this in another thread, but this worked for me:

1. Open Internet Explorer (Make sure it's updated via Windows Updates)
2. Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings
3. Check "Automatically Detect Settings"

Note that I do not use IE much, and have never configured with the connections tab before, so everything was default. I had no proxies or anything else checked in the LAN settings. Checking the Autodetect helped my SC2.exe connect to the patcher, and now I'm happy and playing!

Hope it works for you too!

man, I'm a sorry excuse of a SC player. Just played my last free match. It was TvT, the other guy was a noob too. I take my expansion and the high rescouse one on the desert map. I move in and take out his expansion. When I try to move into his base, he has about 15 tanks and has ringed it with turrets. I spend the next 1/2 hour trying to break in, while controlling the rest of the map. I was trying to be too clever and get nukes in and try combined arms but with his higher ground and tanks, all my ground forces was killed. Finally I just brute forced in with the banshees, taking losses from the turrets but getting them all. No way it should have taken so long. Is there a ground counter to tanks on high ground?

Can someone explain to me the terran aa game because i couldn't figure it out. One of my matches came down to the protoss massing void rays. I tried mass stimmed marines and medivacs which usually works well against mutas but it didn't have the punch to take on the void rays, vikings which were almost useless, and lastly thors and battlecruisers which are the exact units void rays are the counter to.

Could also use battle cruisers to cannon a couple turrets at a time then fly them out and repair, rinse repeat. 3/3 upgraded ones can take a nice chunk of damage before uh-oh time.

Vikings + Marines and Medivacs are really your only choice. Thors are good against larger air units, but not void rays or mutas as you mentioned.

Don't Thors have AA splash damage? 2 Thors took out my 12 mutas in like 2 seconds.

I would imagine though Thors wuold be more suseptible to Void rays. You usuallky have fewer of them as they are high cost/high power unit and void ray damage gets higher the longer it is on... would suggest to me thors woudl go down sort of quick for them.

You shouldn't have thors without medivacs due to their slow speed, some dropship micro will cut down the void rays power output while you buy time to bring SCVs in and repair.

Also not sure how you could lose a battle against void rays with marines, unless you're significantly behind in econ. They do slightly more damage to light units now, but they also lost 1 armor. Marines should be able to take out void rays easily.

I'm suspicious of your plan. Power output doesn't get cut if the ray has another target to immediately fire upon.

If you make them change target before they increase their power level the timer restarts. It's only once it's charged that it'll stick while changing targets.
