I don't know much about the ExIm bank, but I have trouble understanding the controversy based on my limited knowledge. It appears that they loan money to foreign entities (so that they can buy American goods), but since they're generating a surplus apparently the loans are being paid back. What's the problem?
I haven't looked it up but I thought the im/ex bank was to provide guidance (and loans) to american companies that wanted to sell abroad. Shutting it down in that case makes negative sense. With a strong dollar, you want to hawk our products to everyone on the planet. So if that involves making loans to do it, well . . . fuck yeah.

Tomorrow should be fun:
The House Freedom Caucus -- the group of conservatives hardliners whose shutdown antics led to House Speaker John Boehner's resignation -- has endorsed Rep. Daniel Webster for to be the GOP nominee for the next speaker, caucus member Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ) told CNN. The move is a rebuke to Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Boehner's presumed successor.

While it's unlikely that the 40-or-so member caucus will be enough to thwart McCarthy's selection in the closed-door GOP conference Thursday, their refusal to support him spells trouble for when the issue comes to the full House, where 218 votes will be required to elect the next speaker.

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) suggested Tuesday that Democrats will vote for Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), meaning if enough Republicans continue to resist McCarthy as speaker, it could set the stage for a protracted floor fight.

Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID), another Freedom Caucus member, told CNN the group plans to vote as a bloc once the speakership nomination hits the floor.

And the far right wing coup, populated by those fresh young faces and their more senior nutjob mentors continues on its merry course.

Repub elders, silence your spoiled brat kids and put them in their place already, so we can all move on and get the business of governing done the way it was always done: the usual backstabbing, conniving and exploiting your fellow legislator's weaknesses.

Indeed. If McCarthy isn't right wing enough to satisfy the teahadis, who is?

I figure the rational Repubs are being bent over the log by Faux News & Koch Bros money being held back & re-allocated to the 'tards. Serves 'em right, of course. In politics as in the rest of life, certain rules apply- don't feed the bears & don't stick your dick in the crazy. Looks like they've been doing a little of both.

That's my assumption as well. Webster going to get the nod? Let the crazies have the helm and watch them fail so they can sit down and shut up once and for all?

I don't think that's it. He knows how the House works. I think it's either the Benghazi statement or the affair rumor.

Dirt would be my second guess. What statement?
EDIT: Nevermind, I know which statement you meant. Can't imagine that hurt him politically, and probably helped him if anything.

He had an interview with Sean Hannity where he cited the Benghazi investigation and resulting political harm to Clinton as a major Republican congressional achievement. He pretty much obliterated the credibility of the investigation, and he's been apologizing ever since.

Edit: No, it was a major gaffe. It seriously pissed off Republicans because it's a big boost for Clinton, and it really pissed off the investigating committee as it cast them in very poor light.

The wolfs got their sheep skins ripped off their backs and their skivvies went with them. They're now standing around buck nekkid trying to hide their teeny-weenie's and acting like nothing happened.

Pathetic ain't it? LOL

I'm surprised the stock market didn't tank today after McCarthy withdrew. With the debt ceiling issue coming up, the House needs to get its shit in order.

Clearly the Tea Party is willing to let us default.

It took a hit initially, but I think debt ceiling is actually less likely to be an issue now, with Boehner being more likely to handle it himself however he needs to and keeping it off the new Speaker. There's no way anyone he's recruiting (Ryan?) is going to walk into the speakership being stuck with that the first thing. But the other problem, anyone smart enough to be Speaker, is smart enough not to want to be right now, so who knows.

Being small in numbers, smaller in brains, and miniscule in integrity, but very large in the ability to make mischief, they have no choice but to create mayhem, take hostages and generally attempt to make everyone else's live miserable to let everyone know that despite their small size, they can create huge problems so that their concerns are taken care of.

They've taken their behavioral lessons from nuclear armed North Korea very well it seems.

god no.
it'll be like Greece w/that wacko promising he'll get Greece out of the Austerity AND still get Greece the $Billions$ in loans they need.

his finance minister resigned shortly thereafter.
and he resigned 6 months into office when Germany/EU laffed at giving him any $ w/o austerity.

Greek people elected the wacko and they're now in even more dire straits.

Wait.. let the GOP elect this far right wacko!

the GOP got saved when the supreme court upheld obamacare. they would shit in their pants if it got struck down because they don't have anything except lipservice.

now the wacko far right got their bluff called and they now need an actual plan.
all aboard the USS FAILURE!

oh, as a bonus.. thx for getting a Democrat elected as Pres in 2016. :D
