Good points. It is working for Japan. When was the last time there an Islamic attack in Japan? Is Japan hated by the Middle East? It literally has NONE of the problems associated with engagement in the Middle East that the rest of Western civilization has.
Wow, you and Snopes certainly made the straw fly.
Claim: Japan has been able to keep Islam at bay by enforcing very strict laws on Muslims.
Hmm, absolutely no one here said that or advocated it.
The point made by Desura was that we should get completely out of the Middle East, limit immigration from Islamic nations, and in general have as little involvement in the affairs of Islamic nations and peoples as is practical. Bshole pointed out that this approach works well for Japan. Since Japan grants almost no non-Japanese citizenship or permanent residency, they already have that part down pat, without needing any special rules on Muslims. Japan also has virtually nothing to do with Muslim nations except for business dealings, and it's only embassy in terrorism-exporting Islamic nations is (inexplicably) in Afghanistan. It is neither bombing Islamic nations nor overturning their bloody dictators for their own good, nor arming one faction against the government in search of freedom that few of them want, and it neither shuns nor protects Israel. Consequently Japan is seldom considered much in Islamic nations, and thus avoids the hate that we get.
It's hard to hate people you never see or hear from.
