1. buying a car for brand name recongition is soooo lame
2. will retractable cup-holders influence the way you drive /// or reasons to purchase a particular car?
3. tell me which mazda or nissan you test drove that handled and performed better than a MB C-CLASS

So wait, just because your opinion is different from mine, I'm automatically wrong? Yes, for me brand name is important - if you disagree, then it's good for you. One little feature like retractable cupholders isn't a big deal but when you add dozens of these features the end result is pretty pleasant. Yes, once again for me little conviniences are a big plus. Yes, I'm willing to pay $5-$10k extra for that - it's my hard-earned money and I will spend it whatever way I choose, without being ridiculed by anybody.

And lastly, yes I considered buying Murano for a while simply because it seemed like a good choice for a while. Since you apparently are very interested in the decissions I make, sine then I changed my bind for very same reason - I want to continue owning a german car.

Hope that answers your question and settles any anxiety you had over my choice of transportation. Have a good day sir.

How would I know? In December 2001, I was on Clay Pitts Road in Long Island, NY. There are about 4 stop signs on a mile long road. My dad was driving, my brother in the passenger seat, and me in the back. We approached the 2nd stop sign, and when we were stopping I felt a huge CRASH! We got out of the car and a woman in a Camry Solara hit us. We all felt pain in our necks and backs. The rear was totally messed up. My dad has to go to treatment for his neck injuries every week. We were all wearing selt belts. This was in the CAMRY. She couldn't have been going more than 20. My dad was hit by a freightliner last week, and traffic stopped from a steady 55, so the freightliner must have been going no more than 30. He was in a Benz.

Honda Prelude 5th Gen

1. It's a Honda
2. Stylish and sporty looking (most cars these days look very bubbly and bloated)
3. Manual tranny
4. Leather heated seats
5. Sunroof
6. Trunk (yes it actually matters, however small it may be!)

This needs 8.3% MORE POLE -- "All/most of the above"

I drive a BMW 525i. Not just because "It's a BMW" on some badge whore bullsh!t, but because of what being a BMW really means. Here's what:

- Heritage. I love cars that have HERITAGE, not only in performance/race competition but particularly including classic styling, in the sense that design elements get carried over from generation to generation so you KNOW what the car is as soon as you see it. Cadillac, for example, has been well known for the long wheelbase and thin, vertical brake light interpretations. In Stuttgart, it is said that rule #1 for designing a Mercedes is that it must ALWAYS be recognizeable as a Mercedes! On the other side of the spectrum, Nissan has some of the nicest styling available as seen in the current Nissan/Infiniti lineup, but there is rarely anything consistent to link one model generation to the next... For BMW, it's been the Roundel (BMW logo featuring spinning white propeller blades on a blue sky backdrop, highlighting the company's history making planes), the twin kidney grille (of course), round headlights (first 2 now 4), a very short front axle overhang, and the "Hofmeister Kink" in the C-Pillar (unfortunately, I fear the new Bangle-designed BMWs mark the beginning of the end for all this... ). BMW's Design page

- Performance/Handling. Bimmers are world-famous for smooth, powerful yet efficient inline Sixes, and also some of the absolute best handling vehicles in production. You may take me on a straightaway with a bigger engine, but on a twisty country road, consider yourself OWNED. Quite simply put, the car is an extension of you on the open road, it's that responsive. Other cars have a tendency to create a buffer of sorts between the driver and the road. I want all the road data available to me at all times, and in Bimmers I get it. (This is a hard concept to explain in words, just drive one or trust me.) For those who doubt BMW can make a badass engine, the McLaren F1 was BMW-powered, with what would have been the M8's 12-cyl powerplant if such a car was put into production.

- Resale value. Bimmers hold their worth, nuff said.

- Quality. The reliability and fit/finish are great, and some of the creature comfort touches are not missed until you drive something else without heated mirrors/keyhole, full metric toolkit in trunk lid, pre-wiring for phone/CD changer/alarm even if the options were not ordered when the car was built, double-locking doors (tab CANNOT be pulled up manually), non-pushable driver's side door lock when door is open (see previous feature :D), onboard computer with outside thermometer which chimes at 37 deg. F. not 32 because bridges can freeze faster, etc.

...Ok, alright, it's gotten me pussy too. There, you happy? Sue me. :D:beer: :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hey Argo, since my dad got into that accident, we got a FX35 as a loaner. Don't get a Murano. You appreciate the benz more than a ricey exhaust, and sh!tty looking aluminim on the dash, with terrible ergonomics. The thing eats gas. I always said that FX/Murano drivers are assholes. They think they are the sh!t. Now I realize they drive like douches because they can't see out of the car, because the visibility is terrible!

you reply is the sole reason why america is so great and patheic at the same time. no offense intended, i just don't quite understand the pure genius behind certain purchases that people make.

IMHO, your potential murano > then your existing c-class. (my interest is purely on a car-loving-enthuastist level)

my best analogy: paying 2,500 for a SONY Viao Desktops, meanwhile it would cost about 1,500 on NewEgg PLUS LCD. (it is mind-boggling)

it is your "hard-earned" money... do as you wish. my point is made.

That's what I heard the initial idea was to get C320 4matic (need AWD) but I heard bad things about that exact model. All of that was hearsay so don't know how much truth is in that. I might just ignore that and get the car anyways.

where can you get timeless styling, comfortable interior, nice turbo, and 30mpg+ consistently? E300TD.

i drove a C240 4MATIC around and it was a great car, except it needed some pep. 320 would take care of that. Go to the benzworld.org forums. They are very helpful.

and how would u know ? did u do a crash test similar to the one ur dad has with a camry/accord?

to me they r different scenario....
how fast was the solora goin when they hit u compare to frieghtliner?
were u there when ur dad got hit by frieghtliner?
if so how fast was the freightliner was going and how fast was it when it hit ur dad? was he tryin to stop? was the solora tryin to stop when he hit ur camry?

and this ought to be common sense that newer car would hav better safety features then older car...not to mention a car that cost $30K more then the other retail wise ( you Benz are 99,22 and camry/accord are 96-97)

if it were the exact same scenario and somehow ur dad has obtain more injuries from the Camry than the Benz...then i'll believe u.

Mine is a '92 (E34), about to be replaced with a 2000 540i (E39) after 203k faithful miles.

Our taste in bodystyle is almost exactly alike, except I like the coupe 3-series thru 05 as well. Lines don't flow right on the sedan... just like the Skyline/G35. Neither has any business with 4 doors.

Chris Bangle is ruining the marque, IMHO. I can't bring myself to love any of the brand-new ones the way I did the previous styles...

I will counter your SLK230 with 350z

and E300TD with the RL.

you want to talk features, those cars are along the same lines.

05 3 series is a facelift- like the more aggressive front end. However, I just like those 94-98 3 series, if you could understand this, they seem more German. More classic in design- no LED tailights, Xenons, crystal lens headlights. More elegance.

I drive audi a4 quattro mostly because i found a great deal on it and there are very few sedans in that price range that look as good and come with AWD. Also most japanese and virtually all american cars have cheap ass interiors - being european i very much symphatize with what they say on top gear.

Plus i like the little perks you get here and there - oem car alarm with pressure sensor in case someone busts in your window. Key coded radio so strealing it is pointless + RDS on the radio. No external antena. All alloy suspension pieces (none of this stamped metal crap) and galvanized sheetmetal. Brake pad wear sensors, oil change sensor, ballistic seat belt fasteners (part of SRS) and the list goes on and on.

Also my mom drives a C class benz and the build quality on it is amazing. All you need to do is close the door or the trunk and you'll immediately hear what I'm talking about. Plus that thing is by far the most comfortable car i've driven, even compared to a cruise ship like 2000 lincoln conti.

not really-i just like the lower end torque of the diesel instead of revving the stupid honda motor to 9. I have regularly driven my friend's 05 Honda Accord V6. WTF is the big deal about it? I drive that diesel maybe twice in a month, and just love it so much. to each his own.
