Wow, typo fail. Almost wish I mashed "n" for Glone instead...

And I thought 'Up in the Air' was more deserving. 'Hurt Locker' was also good. Both felt more contemporary than 'Avatar', which was awesome as an action movie. Out of Cameron's actions movies, 'Terminator 2' is the only one I'd seriously consider for best picture/film.

Haven't seen 'Crazy Heart' yet, so can anyone who has tell me whether it is very similar to 'The Wrestler' or not?

Crazy Heart is a bit different, though they share a similar theme (old guy who doesn't really have anything in his life but his craft, and they even both have estranged children).

It's definitely worth watching. Jeff Bridges is absolutely brilliant, and the supporting cast is spot-on. Even Colin Farrell is good in this, I guess indie movies are more his speed (he doesn't feel the pressure to be Tom Cruise or whatever). Maggie Gyllenhall is good, cast wonderfully in this as a small-town single mom, much better than her horrible miscasting in the Dark Knight. Robert Duvall has a small but appreciated appearance that's appropriate considering his role in Tender Mercies.

There's a moment in the film where Jeff Bridges will stun you. I won't ruin the scene by giving plot specifics, but he is told something by someone he deeply cares for, and the reactions registering on his face without words are spellbinding. He goes from happy and hopeful in the space of a couple of moments into a resignated, stark denizen of cold reality. It's not a scene I think more than a handful of actors are capable of pulling off.

Globes are bullshit, they just give it to whatever crap is the most popular. Total farce of an awards show, just like the Grammy's.

Funny how at the SAG's last night, Avatar was not even mentioned. :hmm:

KT

Are the Oscars bullshit too? Because Avatar is probably going to sweep there :awe:

There's no way Avatar is going to win Best Picture. No way in hell. Now Best Director I might understand, given that just making all of the pieces work and bringing it all together must have been a monumental challenge. Purely for the merits that the challenge put forth, I could respect a nod for Cameron there. But best film? The academy isn't that stupid.

I really liked the movie, but I don't understand why people so passionately defend it. If you enjoyed it, what do you care if someone else didn't? You guys remind me of the people who passionately side with either nVidia or ATI and defend them to the death. Weirdos.

No it wasn't, you just hate Americans. Everyone knows this.
No, it was a terrible film and I'm a huge fan of war films. There was almost no story in Hurt Locker. It was just boring. I enjoyed the Generation Kill series much more.

I'll chalk this up as yet another attempt from a clueless ATOTer trying to construe one of my posts as anti-American when it was never implied or intended.

Or you fail at reading sarcasm. 😀

I thought Avatar was so terrible I smashed my 3D glasses after leaving the theater. What a waste of $12.50 and 163 minutes of my life.

typical leftist propaganda, but who cares

I'm quoting this just in case :awe: I think it's got a good shot, I wouldn't count it out.

I thought everything about it was great, except the story. Which is really one of the most important elements. The 3d was super cool though. First huge 3d movie people wanna see that stuff.

Some people really loved the story too. I thought it was a bit weak and predictable, still good but not great. Still one of the best movies of the year.

Wrong! The boat will stay afloat for another day 😉

Latest from Box Office Mojo (as of Sunday):

ALL TIME WORLDWIDE
1. Titanic $1,842,879,955
2. Avatar $1,836,143,000
3. Return of the King $1,119,110,941

For the "who cares" crowd, people care in the same way they care when an athlete breaks a record or a team wins a championship... Did they have any part in it? No, but they care because its an achievement

As for the academy awards... Need I remind you that Titanic won 11 of them? If Titanic did, then you can bet Avatar will get best movie as well

Film snobs out in force tonight.

It was a good movie. I don't care if you've seen every movie or "film" ever made.
