Yeah what a shame people push technological advances for movies these days. Let's not consider that this movie has more man hours behind it than possibly any other movie made to date with an incredibly strong directer behind it. I wish every movie was another version of The Man from Earth.
Take your logical fallacies and shitty arguing techniques to P&N.
We need actual brains here in ATOT. You cant fake it.

I thought it was a great film and well worth the money spent on the price of admission. I only wish that Hollywood could pump out more quality films like this instead of the continuous stream of trash we are normally subjected to. Congrats Cameron!

This!

YOU'RE WRONG BECAUSE I SAID SO AND I'M SMART SO THERE.

Um ok your argument doesn't make any sense but I don't care so good for you guy.

who cares

Yeah who really fucking cares anyway? The people who like this movie are giving it praise because that's what we do; advertise movies that we enjoy and tell others to go see them. No one is objectively right or wrong so ffs quit telling people they're wrong for liking it or wrong for hating it.

Both grossly overrated movies.

Avatar was entertaining enough, but "Best Movie of the Year"?? No way

That was absolute bullshit that it won the Golden Glove for best movie or whatever. It was a good, fun film, let's leave it at that.

Would everyone claiming it does not deserve to be the best movie of the year please nominate something they think is deserving?

I thought Avatar was very good, in fact I thought the visuals were one of the weaker parts of the film.

I agree. It was neither the best defensive player of the year at its position, nor was it an amateur boxer.

So basically what your saying is; it's ok for you to praise avatar and tell people to see it but it's not ok for other people to say it sucked and tell people not to see it?...ok.

Avatar was ok wasn't great but I don't think it completely sucked either. The main reason it's making so much money is the visuals and the fact that it was made by Cameron.

Best movie of the year? No. Terminator salvation, Star Trek, Zombieland and The Hangover were better than avatar.

Better films than Avatar of 2009 (imho, as I don't really give a shit about CGI unless the story / acting is really good, or if I'm just in the mood for a throwaway action film)

Tyson (documentary). Fascinating stuff.

Bad Lieutenant : New Orleans. Good to see Cage back in something that suits him well.

The Road. Depressing but very well done, and it doesn't try to spell everything out in 72pt bold, there's subtlety and art here.

Crazy Heart. Legendarily great, gutsy, nuanced work by Jeff Bridges, and a strong supporting cast doing great work.

The Messenger. Outstanding performance by Woody Harrelson, and one of the best directorial debuts of the decade.

The Hurt Locker. Gritty and unpolitical examination of some young men doing very hard work in bleak conditions. Great use of the camera here to give unique perspectives on the action. Doesn't pull punches.

Up in the Air. Solid all around, and very apropos to the times.

Goodbye Solo. A totally profound character study. By the end of this film you could literally know these characters like they were family for years.

That's just for starters. 2009 wasn't even a particularly great year for films.

Popular =! Quality.

McDonalds sells more food daily than any restaurant in history. Is McD's the best food in the world?

Exactly! Avatar, while fun, would not even crack my top 30 from 2009.

Wow, typo fail. Almost wish I mashed "n" for Glone instead...

And I thought 'Up in the Air' was more deserving. 'Hurt Locker' was also good. Both felt more contemporary than 'Avatar', which was awesome as an action movie. Out of Cameron's actions movies, 'Terminator 2' is the only one I'd seriously consider for best picture/film.

Haven't seen 'Crazy Heart' yet, so can anyone who has tell me whether it is very similar to 'The Wrestler' or not?

The Hurt Locker was the best film of the year, followed by Up in The Air.

Avatar is just a remake of pocahontas with fancier graphics and worse acting.

mcdonalds doesn't wow everyone's taste buds.

avatar does. eat it and weep!

Um, no. All of the 'good' reviews of Avatar even mention that it's not a great film really, it is unoriginal and lacks great acting/writing, but the visuals are extraordinarily good, and clearly Cameron put a lot of thought into the set pieces themselves (the planet, the ecosystem, the animals/plants/etc). I enjoyed it well enough even if it was predictable, the ride was worth the price of my ticket. What I don't agree with is jumping to the conclusion that it's the greatest thing in history because it made a shitton of $.

Look at the top 10 of each year in movies, the top box office is usually dominated by mostly brainless throwaway films.

As a matter of fact, I think the best blockbuster films of all time might be the LOTR series, which were just damned well done at every level. Usually you get crap like Spiderman 3 or Transformers 2 making a bazillion dollars, while really good but more challenging films don't make that kind of bank.

Avatar already won Best Picture and Best Director at the Golden Globes. It is a top contender for Best Picture at the Oscars. AND it's the highest grossing film of all time.

The funny thing is I never even said it was a good movie or a bad one. I just pointed out how silly some people are when they use emotion to defend their position. It might actually be a good movie but the fact that no one so far has come up with a huge laundry list of logical reasons WHY its awesome tells me I wont be impressed if I do see it.

Globes are bullshit, they just give it to whatever crap is the most popular. Total farce of an awards show, just like the Grammy's.

Funny how at the SAG's last night, Avatar was not even mentioned. :hmm:
