This is my tower. Its modular design will make it easy to add height to it incase my submission is surpassed.

Tower
Foundation
Measurement
Exact

Initial entry height: 36.5"

I suspect that your tower used more than 3 post-it notes :

and I think i see tape

yeah i'm seeing more than 3 post-its there

i left my post-it pad at work so perhaps i'll have a submission tomorrow

Holy crap, I didn't see the 3 note limit. :p

But no, there is no tape involved.

:( sorry Safeway.

The "3" requirement is now bold in the OP :p

It would be funny to have no limit on the number of Post-Its. Someone could just go to the office supply room at work and take 1000 Post-It packets and just make a giant heap of them ;)

Send me some post-it notes books, and I'll build you a tower. How about we not waste actual papers and say that we built super high towers?

This is a waste of life.

ATOT needs to get out more.

My 9000 posts say otherwise.

I'd say that the impact of 3 3" post-it notes on the environment is negligible. If we all recycle our towers, that should count for something, right?

I think building post-it-note towers is as close to getting out as ATOT gets.

Well I made a first draft of the Week 1 Winner certificates :p

If you want the electronic copy, I'll e-mail it to you (with color). If you want the actual copy, you'll have to e-mail me an address and I can mail you a grayscale printout of it... to which I may add some color and possibly a sticker
Unfortunately, I think I'll have to end up tri-folding the certificate to get it into a regular envelope.

EDIT: I stuck my username in there just for testing.

I'll assume the winner wants their AT username on the certificate unless they notify me after winning that they'd like a different name used.

Shameless Friday bump

To be sure of getting into the poll, submit your designs within the next 48 hours.

I don't know what time on Sunday I'll be making the poll.

For the engineering challenge I built a tower that was just short of 40 inches tall, and I was handicapped by only having post-it notes that were 2 7/8" square. However I was helped by having a paper slitter and folding machine. Unfortunately no camera at work. All I did was slit the post-it notes at 4.5mm wide at the skinniest (wider for the bottom) and creased it at 90 degrees lengthwize in the center of each 4.5mm section. Then built 3 legs using the stickyness to hold it together. I had 3 cross struts around the outside as a 'girdle' to keep the legs from splaying out under the weight of the postit notes above. It was surprisingly stable, so if scissors are used, you should be able to go smaller than 4.5mm wide, which means taller than 40 inches.

Just some thoughts for you engineering peeps.

I wish I had a folding machine :(

Is there any way for you to take a picture of it? Cell phone camera?

I already took it down before my boss freaked out that I wasn't doing work :p My cell is a blackberry a8703e, which doesn't have much in the way of 'features' heh.

my entry is titled "olympus in yellow".

total height is 40 1/2 inches.
it is constructed out of 35 1/4 inch x 3 inch elements - 7 for each of 2 support legs, 3 used as tape on the glass table, and 18 for the main spar. the 36th element was unused.

Bump for Monday crowd

If you're in the running for either of these, (The Boston Dangler, I'm looking in your direction), make sure you have an idea picked out for what you want tomorrow's new challenge to be.

I would appreciate it if you had it in a somewhat similar format to my originals

- Title for the challenge
- What are the materials to be used if applicable
- What are the rules?
- What should people submit?

Please keep in mind that if you won the Engineering Challenge for example, the challenge you should present as the new one should also fit in the "Engineering" category.
