You know how they say there are some things that you can't un-see?

This is one of those things.

can i outsource my tower design to an engineering student in India?

That's silly and impractical. There are plenty of Indian engineering students locally available on visas. :p

Can you elaborate?

I don't have any problem with that just thinking about that initially. For example, if you and your SO want to make a dug project or something, I think that's fine.

The only thing I'm worried about is that I'd like to send out a winner's certificate to the poll's winner. If there are teams, how about there's a designated team leader and I send the certificate (with all team members' names) to that leader?

(This only applies to an actual physical copy, if it's just the electronic version through e-mail, then the more the merrier I guess :p )

The work should be done by the actual members participating :p

If an Indian engineering student is making the design, they should sign up for AT and get credit for their own work ;)

Tower 2 update:

Full view
29 and 1/16"
Base (and extra ring that I didn't need)
Side view
Not as sturdy as Tower 1

EDIT: Tower 2 was made after hearing that my performance in round 2 (earlier today) of the job interview process wasn't good enough to get to round 3 :(

45 --> 11? --> 3-4?

So I noticed that several of the submissions are missing the "ATOT" text in them.

Thinking back at the original rules, having that requirement seems rather pointless. I think I was worried about people just doing a google image search for whatever the topic was and just saying it was their own. Considering that anybody can take any image they want and just slap "ATOT" on it, I guess that's a pretty stupid way of determining the validity of a submission :p

So, I'm planning on disregarding that requirement unless someone gives me a good reason why it should stay as a rule.

EDIT:

Oh, and as a reminder, if you submit more than one dug design, you only get credit for the design that scored you the most. By submitting several designs, you might distribute the votes for yourself? I guess it depends on the way you look at it though.

Of course this only matters if your goal is to win vs. have fun and entertain ATOT ;) If that's your goal, then submit as many as you want :D

because I did it. I should be the winner and all else is disqualified

Well I did it too :p

Yeah, that's probably about the best argument out there... that those that follow the rules should be rewarded ;)

I have a feeling that since it's going to be decided by a vote, that people wont care, so If I wanted it to really be a determining factor, I'd have to not include designs that didn't have "ATOT" in them, which would be a total jerk move

i'm sorry to hear that about your interview. i'm even more sorry to see my prototype tower beaten by almost a foot.

I thought this last interview went pretty well too... I guess that's life though. At least I made it past the first round.

Unfortunately, that's the only set of interviews I've gotten for the 20+ positions for which I've applied :(

On the bright side, it looks like even if I don't get a job teaching in a middle school (those are the jobs I'm applying for now), I should be able to stay on as a full time employee working for HomeBrewerDude

Oh, and I'm sorry to hear about your tower. Feel free to post it in all its glory as you try to construct a taller one :D

I posted my "Tower 2" because I wanted to honestly give it my best shot, but I don't really want to win this so that someone else gets to pick the next challenge. I figured the best way to do that it get my best shot out there early and then people know exactly how tall it needs to be to at least beat me :)

I may take another stab at it in a couple days, but I'm fairly satisfied with the Tower 2 design overall.

Can we work in ATOT teams though? Like if I partnered up with OTers that I also know in real life?

Yeah, that seems perfectly fine. This quote below was addressing your question.

Tower

Initial entry height: 36.5"

I suspect that your tower used more than 3 post-it notes :

and I think i see tape

yeah i'm seeing more than 3 post-its there

i left my post-it pad at work so perhaps i'll have a submission tomorrow

Holy crap, I didn't see the 3 note limit. :p

But no, there is no tape involved.
