If this makes enough revenue and becomes a partnership, you should seek a dedicated hosting solution like this will cost around $129 - $149/mo.

Some thoughts:

1) we'll need a hell of a project manager on this. Someone who can devote a godly amount of time without being paid (initially, if ever).
2) need experience with submitting patents, copyrights, etc...as I'm sure that will come into play.
3) assuming everyone works for free and pirates any software/design packages used in development, there is still lots of startup $$$ that has to come from somewhere.
4) there are many of the positions that aren't necessarily needed. IE you start the company with as few as possible, and add on later. Things like historian, communications, web designers, etc... really need to be considered added on a "need-only" basis. Someone has to make decisions like that.

Cheers,
Purg-Z

You ops guys - always spend, spend, spend.

We have to make sure cash flow is going to be able to handle this, unless we want to secure some long range debt. I got it, let's issue some 20 year Corporate bonds or maybe some Commercial Paper.

Ok, sorry, time to get serious on this issue. I would be interested to hear what DevilsAdvocate had to say in his PM.

I agree on the start small and add up as we go theory, but how do we get over the hurdle of the idea brainstorm? I have a lot of ideas I would like to run with, but just because I think they are good, that does not make them so. As for DevilsAdvocate he just wanted to know what we were talking about and he said he would look into it..

Good point, something we need to think about? Is AT or ATOT a copyright?

I doubt it. I don't see that little "R" thing on the main page. So "Anandtech" isn't even copyrighted, let alone AT or ATOT.

edit: BTW, the correct term is trademark. And a quick search on uspto.gov shows anandtech isn't a trademark.

I wanna play too!

I know women...lots of women. Lots of easy women.

and I have some technical ability too.

but the women....lots...I mean it....like....lots.

and I know a really good director and have a camera and....oh wait...this doesn't sound good for me.

in any case, I wanna play. You can find my credentials in that humongous resume thread from way back and that "list your qualifications" thread we're always having.

I belive AT is.

Anyways. Wish I would have seen this earlier so I could have chimed in. I was out roller blading all day. :D

I can help in graphics design. Depending on our products I can draw and design them by hand. As well I can help on web development.

heh just read through this whole thread, sounds like a cool idea if you can pull it off.

Count me in if you need another developer/database guy (also math/physics if required) :)

Ok, why the hell would you want a website when you have no business idea? Or a company name? Many businessmen are cheap, not burning money or time like you guys are already...

First things first, get some good ideas, and prepare to work damn hard and suffer if you actually have a decent set of goals.

Y'know what, this sounds like a good idea. I'm in. :D

I majored in English, and have very good communication skills; I also work in web design & database development (primarily PHP w/MySQL), so I could help somewhat on the tech side. The general idea of this sounds an awful lot like a cooperative.

Are we going to do a private thread?

I'm in depending on the idea first which of course is the MAJOR hurdle here. Get a bunch of qualified people together in a room with no idea and what do you end up with? A bunch of qualified people in a room with no ideas.
