Despite previous reports to the contrary, I appear, again, to be clogged solid. Currently I'm doubling down on the Metamucil, taking additional psyllium husk supplements, and am chugging as much water as I can hold down.

This diet has been hell on my digestive health. Has anyone on the South Beach diet had these kinds of problems?

My worst bowel movement ever was, well, let me entertain you: Back when I was 20-21, I got into this pepper eating habit. I would eat jalapenos and banana peppers whenever I could. I played it off, went home, and went to bed. Around 6AM, I woke up with that "I GOTTA CRAP!!!!" alert. I got up and hot footed to the bathroom. First turd, slick as could be, scooted out of my ass and I screamed. SCREAMED! As in, I woke up my roommate sleeping downstairs. My ass felt like it was on frigging fire, and more needed to come out. You want to talk about turds of dread, well, here it is, right front and center. Excruciating pepper fire, shooting from my ass. I tried to put the fire out by dabbing at it with toilet paper and at the same time, I desperately tried to fill the tub next to the can full of cold water to help. No go. Anyway, an hour and a half later, it was finally over. Moral: no matter how much you like peppers, don't eat habaneras.

I think there is a point at which you have to ask yourself the pros and cons of the health benefits of sticking with this diet.

You could try excercising and eating a diet with a more even macronutrient ratio at a lower calorie amount (than you used to eat) to lose weight.

Is there a God??? At this point, I don't know. My ass would probably tell you "no", though. To date, I've been unable to fine tune my fiber intake to the point where I'm either not clogged solid or on the verge of filling my undies.

Quite a few people have had the same problems when first starting out on the diet. The first thing you need to do before you start the Atkins diet is that you need to detoxify your liver.
 
go eat a few cheesburgers,with the bread,and have a couple of beers,(2or3)

you will feel better.

Eat a little bread,or a bagel etc at least every other day,for fiber.

"Total" cereal is good,too!
 
I think I may be onto something: Stewed Prunes. Although they are digusting and relatively high in carbs (26g for 1/4 cup), they seem to keep things moving along without over doing it. I've discovered that if I eat at least three stewed prunes with each meal, things work themselves out. I'm going to give a few more days to see if I'm still in ketosis and having regular BM's.

Ok, just a mini update as I am still in the fine tuning stage.

I've found that if I eat one and a half stewed prunes with every meal, I'm able to stay in ketosis and for the most part keep my digestive track flowing properly. Yes, I've had some bad days but they are getting fewer and farther inbetween.

Even with the 2-3 breaks I've taken from the diet, I'm down 28lbs since the first day I started.

Not bad. Still seems like a lot of carbs, though.
 
As soon as I get time, I will post update#9 in which things went from bad to worse. I'm thinking the title will be:

Dr Atkins or: How I Started Spray Painting My Underwear When I Began Caring About Carbs.
