On the first day I had a G&L fart and ever since then I don't even think about farting unless I'm firmly planted on a toilet. Did anyone else on the program have the same reaction? When does it end?

your cutting back of carbs led to a cutting back of fiber. down some fiber dood. remember, atkins is not NO carbs, it's LOW carbs. eat some veggies or down some metamucil.

Try adding a cup or so of 100% bran to your diet at breakfast.

While it does contain carbs, very few of them will be absorbed by your body. This will give you the bulk you need to resume normal operations on the toilet. :D

<<UPDATE#1>> My Urine Smells Like Bacon!

Ok, nothings 'firmed' up in the diarrhea department today. At the first sign of LTM, I'm hot footing towards the nearest bathroom. Now here's the weird thing: I noticed a couple days ago, like on day #4 of going low carb, my urine smells like bacon. At the time I didn't realize that it was me, but thought that the urinal was in need of a new mint. But ever since then, no matter what urinal I use, I get a strong smell of bacon and or bacon grease coming out of my urine.

Has anyone else experienced weird smelling urine while on Atkins?

I've made an appointment with my physician for this Friday to see what's going on with me.

I'm not a doctor, but it seems to me that you need to give up the diet until you're better, then try again with a little more ruffage just to be safe.

I sounds to me like you have a salmonella infection, did you eat eggs or meat that hadn't been cooked throughly?

After reading the symptoms of Salmonella poisoning, I'm pretty certain that that is not what I have. But I could be wrong.

I feel absolutely great, besides the bacon smelling urine and the pouring battery acid out of my @ss.

JJWalker - I got this from atkins.com, hopefully it will be helpful for you :

I've had several episodes of diarrhea since starting Atkins. How can I avoid it?

Diarrhea is uncommon in people doing Atkins. In fact, people on Induction are more likely to initially experience constipation. However, some people can't tolerate dairy products?and consumption of cheese and cream may cause diarrhea. If this is the case, try eliminating all milk products and see if it gets better. Unsweetened psyllium husks can be added, which act as a sponge, soaking up water and helping form a normal stool. If you don?t respond to that treatment, then look at the amount of fat you are eating. If you have been on an extremely low-fat diet prior to starting Atkins, it may take your body a while to adjust.

If dietary fat is not the cause, diarrhea could also result from taking the recommended supplements. Try stopping them for a week, then if the diarrhea goes away, reintroduce them one at a time. So long as you have diarrhea, it is especially important to drink a minimum of eight glasses of water a day to avoid dehydration.

If it's not food poisoning, it's could be the above. What were you eating pre-Atkins, and now?

Your digestive tract can handle a ridiculous amount of fat (if that's what you're feeding it), it just needs a little time to get used to it. Although after 6 days, I think it would have gotten past the "ugly stage".

BTW, this thread makes me think of the legendary Ryan's steakhouse story.

Make sure you drink lots of water, and milk (dairy products) make diarrhea worst. Diarrhea can cause dehydration...
