EDIT: If the R520 was launched at the time the 7800GTX was launched, and the 7800GTX was delayed like the R520 is and will be, What video card do you think Rollo would have in his rig(s)?

Same card as you, a 6800 ultra as ..... the drivers are bad or donkeys and asses are really the same or shader day was really a piss off........ already read it all.

Umm, what? 😕

I think with the Shader Day reference he's trying to divert the argument back to the old "9700 Pro was teh roxor!" argument.

No actually was just suggesting that you 2 have a history of promoting Nvidia sales, even in the darkest of times. IMO, if Ati had the top card right now - you guys would be saying - tried ati, but the texture shimmering gave me big headaches. Still as you said, are probably several active particapants here that work for Nvidia.

Oh yeah ronnn, werent you part of the topic of discussion in Forum issues? Didn't someone say that you always turn up the throw fuel on the fire?
I have no doubt that there are ATI and NV employees on this forum. Why wouldn't there be? It's one of the most popular. You don't actually know what we would be saying if I owned an R520 that shimmered. If my 6800GT shimmered, I would not be using it and would have RMA'd it until I got one that didn't. If that could not be done, I would have returned the card to the vendor and tried out a X800xx. (Which I have BTW). If the shimmering was bad enough to give me a headache, it's gone. If barely noticeable, I would hang on for a driver release. These are things that I know that I would do because I have done so in the past with 9500/9700's. I kept RMA'ing trying to get one that didn't have the issue. No luck until a driver release came out to address it. I bought a Ti4600 in the interim. You can say whatever you wish, but I know the score.

Man, from your lips to their ears! How cool would that be!? Or for ATI, AMD, or Intel for that matter?

To sum up plain and simply:

We don't hate ATI. We want them to stay around and play. It's the fanatics and nvidiots we cant stand.

QFT- pretty much sums it up.

Way to distort what he said. The paragraph before indicates that they were not able to get the clocks up to where they wanted because of the grounding issue. He NEVER said they would need to OVERCLOCK them to compete. He said they should outperform the 7800 is they get the proper clock speed. I read that as the speed they intended to ship at before running into the ground problem. There's no reason to believe this ground problem won't be solved (perhaps already is?) soon allowing them to crank up the clocks to where the expect them.

I guess that depends on what you think of as "stock OCing".

I see your point in that you could construe this as meaning they just haven't hit their original target speed yet in sufficient yield.

I see it another way: that they know what the 7800GTX is, may know what the 7800Ultra is, and have to basically OC it from the factory to compete. I think the 7800GTX took them by surprise and they're scrambling to offer something that can equal it, and that we will probably NEVER see big quantities of R520 XT PEs. That's my hunch anyway.

I'm going to mention the 5800Ultra here, not because I think it important anymore, but because I think it may be very similar to what is happening with the R520.

A lot of ATI fans said the 5800Ultra was "OCd from the factory" because at the time it had to be launched with an incredibly high clock speed to compete with the R300, which had more pipes at a much lower speed. My guess is that yields on the 500MHz 5800U, the 8 layer PCB, the FLOWFX, and the 1GHZ DDR2 made it impossible to produce profitably.

I'm guessing we're seeing the same sort or thing here with the R520- when's the last time a chip was re-done this many times? How is it possible 60 days before supposed "launch" they still don't knwo what the spec will be? When they've been sampling 9 months?

BTW- if it IS a 16 pipe "factory OCd" card with a big ass HSF, that may make it more interesting to me.

One poster here, Ghandi Instinct, has told us he works at ATI, and rbV5 has told us he's a beta tester for them who's deeply involved with Rage3d?

Oh, so now I'm an "insider" issuing damage control. LOL, you realy are full of yourself aren't you?

I'm not deeply involved with Rage3D, but they are nice enough to host my Graphedit thread, which is very cool of them. I don't post much in the forums anymore because the posters there are a bit over the top for my taste, you can do a search of my posts. I've been a member there for a few years.

I do some beta testing for ATI, that's true, I also test hardware and software for other manufacturers and developers when I have time as well. I'm proud of the work the Beta Testers have done for ATI, the group I work with are just your normal enthusiasts who volunteer their time to help make the drivers better for the community.

Mostly, I'm just an enthusiast and occasionally get pulled into your nonsense threads.....but, by all means keep it coming 🙂

I have nothing against you rbV5, I'm impressed you get to do such things. I was just saying that it could be some here are taking it personally because they have good reason to.

You were just an example of someone we know has ties to ATI, no offense intended. (and any info you can provide w/o breaking your NDA most appreciated!)

Thats me that started a new thread based on person's post in b3d and called him an attendees. Than made many, many weird statements about Ati, not intended to provoke a reaction of course.

This type of fire doesn't have any need for oil.

Wow, BTW "Kyle" could you please show us where and when on B3d you have lambasted WaltC, DW. HB DT and the seemingly 10's of others who lambast nV daily while praising thier "god" ATI. And yes I've been reading thjose forums among others every day for quite awhile so don't bother with the "who me?"
Funny, i've never seen you speak up there while the crap is being flung, now here at AT you are suddenly concerned with fairness😉

These forums just get better every day:laugh:

Why?

There is an Edit button.

Then again, maybe we should all post 4-5 times in a row.

I don't think you should be able to reply to any, but I guess we're stuck with each other?

Complain about it in F/S, opps, I fogot, last time you did that, the mods didn't even bother editing my post.

Thanks, I guess LOL🙂

Yea, I've noticed you've seem to have taken quite a personal interest😛
Anyway, its pretty evident that ATI is lying in the bed of there own making, so the increased hyperbole surrounding their product launches is somewhat deserved over the past several months. I'm waiting just like everyone else.

Addressing the rampant rumours surrounding the R520 launch date, ATI stated its plan of record is to launch all three 90nm R500 desktop discrete chips (the enthusiast R520, the performance RV530, and the value RV515) in late September. The shipment dates will likely be staggered for the three chips, based on the delivery cycles from TSMC, with one likely shipping at launch date and the other two within the first half of October.

So if this is all true. How is the R520 going to be a paper launch?

1) If the launch date is the same and the actual delivery dates are different, then that means that a portion of the supposed "launch" is simply paper.

2) Kristopher from AT has posted ATI's roadmap that shows R520 will not be the first chip to be rolled out.

Either R520 will be the first chip available or it will be a paper launch. I guess we'll see...

What exactly did ATI launch at this thing in Australia anyway? CrossFire...? Where are all Aussie Crossfire benchamrks?

Where are ANY Crossfire benchmarks? For a "launched" product, it's pretty much MIA!

i dont understand

this is so simple:

if you have the patience for r520, then wait it out and know that it may be a long wait since ATi has delayed (it happens, i'm sure they are trying their best to get the card out too as everyday day they go without it, they lose a little more of the sector to the competition)

if you cant wait, then get the 7800 and enjoy today

so simple

I believe if Rollo is Gleeful, it's not because ATI is failing. It would be more likely that he is gleeful that all ATI fanatics are spinning with anger right now over a video card. The very same people who constantly thrash him for praising nvidia for the past 2 gens (6 and 7 series).
Are you really so delusional that you belive that, or are you intentionally making things up to defend your fellow fanboy? Rollo doesn't get bashed for praising nvidia, he gets bashed for downplaying their faults and talking trash on their competition just like any fanboy does. I don't know if you are intentionally lying or if you honestly belive you could dig up quotes to back up your attempt to justify Rollo's actions here, but ether way man, please get a grip on reality and please stop defending Rollo's lack of one.

Listen fantasy boy, I like Nvidia more than ATI by a longshot...

I know damn well that you have a hard-on for nVidia; I'm just asking you to please stop waving it around at everyone. Again, you claim you are justified because people ""constantly thrash" Rollo for praising nVidia, but that simply not true. If it were the case we could dig up quotes from old threads to back your argument all day long, but we can't because there is nothing to quote from but your imagination. So yeah, that is great that you have a favorite company, but quit think everyone else does to because some of us like myself could care less who makes what and we don't need people trolling their fanboy allegiances while the rest of us are simply trying to have rational discussions about video hardware.

I'm sorry, I suppose you must be talking to me though I'm not sure why you put my name in quotes or what exactly you are trying to call me out on. Anyway, could you be more clear as to what you are talking about specifically, perhaps by posting some links to these threads you want me to defined myself for not posting in?

Lets not get disgusting shall we? Tell me what exactly am I waving around? If my preference was ATI do you really think I would ever hear a peep from you? I thought not.
Trolling fanboy allegiances? Tell me something, does it matter to you if I have ATI cards in my posession right now? Because a true fanboy wouldn't be caught dead using the "enemies" products now would they. I just sold my X800XTPE not too long ago, and my son has an X700pro PCI-e in his computer. A true fanboy dad would never allow his children to use the "enemies" products right? Because they're the devil. Right? You don't even know which ass your talking out of right now. The one down below or the one on top of your shoulders.

Wow, that was kind of like a "Who me?" response. Are you a politician Snowman? Is this true that you never speak up to anyone who thrashes NV over there? If so, why not? Your all about fairness, am I not correct?

It was disgusting in here long before I stepped into this thread; watching your trolling "to see the fanatics squirm" as you so eloquently put it, is downright disgusting, And again you thought wrong, It doesn't matter to me which comany drives your desire to troll, I'm just tierd of watching people get their jollies off doing it as that is by no means conductive to the rational discussion of video hardware that this forum is intended for.

All I want is ATi to have a competitive R520, whether it comes out in September or October or later. Why? Because I am an ATI or NVidia fanatic? No. I just buy the best technology. Bring on the competition and bring down the price.

Oh, and I am currently running 12 NVidia 3400s in parallel. I am waiting on 12 XFX 7800 GTXs o/c to arrive on my doorstep. Eat your heart out SLI & Crossfire. 🙂

Off topic: lifeguard1999, would you mind enlightening us with the details of this thing with 12 Quadros in parallel? Is it using some sort of proprietary hardware or software to get those things working together?

If you hadn't noticed, most of the threads in the video forum that have to do with ATI and/or Nvidia, ALWAYS has a fanboy. Every single one. No exceptions. If your not used to this excuse of a discussion forum, better take out your leather wallet and bite down on it because there is nothing you or I can do to stop it. And what about B3D? You kind of didn't acknowledge the question. I guess that's enough of an aswer for me.

Well, maybe we should petition the Mods to kick out the worst offenders. I bet the threads would stay clean and on topic then.
