Wow. We've been hearing "Wait two months for the R520, it's taped out!" since MARCH.

Here we are, half a year later and ATI is saying "Wait two months for the R520, it's taped out!"

Those actually waiting for the R520 are the most patient folk on the planet, and should all change their names to "Ghandi".

Of course those of us who didn't wait and bought SLI/7800s long ago have been gaming at next gen levels for months, but waiting is nice too. ;)

BTW- does it look to anyone else like Australia is ATIs beta tester market for Crossfire? Why launch it there rather than your BIGGEST market, the U.S.? I'd think they would sell about 100X as many units here?

you can call me ghandi ;)

actually i think i'll still be using my 9800 pro until at least Feb/March 06

EDIT: Sweet about the Australia bit ;)

I know i've never seen such a large proportion of people on a forum owning the absolute top end kit as OCAU...

So if that guy is accurate about launch date, does this also mean he is accurate about trouncing even the 7800 ultra (if it comes)? If so, this is very good news for Ati!! Personally I don't place much stock in either. Anyways nice to see stuff from b3d make it to this forum.

The Rep said it's going to be packaged with Duke Nukem Forever! So HA it was worth the wait after all!

He says its performance is higher than the GTX or Ultra, should it ever come out. How does he know?

I dont really care that its 2 more months off, other seems to like to make fun with this info though.

NV didnt launch a new card last year when ATi did, now its reveresed. Big deal.

TIme will tell ronnn, but I'm guessing ATI PR doesn't say things like "Man, we screwed the pooch this time. It's later than Grandma's period, and the performance isn't there."

All we know for sure is that 7800GTs and 7800GTXs are available in a variety of flavors at good prices, so you could actually be gaming on next gen hardware instead of pondering it. ;)

LOL-
Yeah nVidia fell down BIG TIME on that one!

ATI- relaunched the same core with a 10% speed bump and 5-10% more performance! Woot!

nVidia- launched SLI that totally destroyed ATIs best at features and performance on every single game.

LOL- they're still re-launching that core to this day!

I would be surprised to hear him say things like that also. I would also be surprised to hear him give an accurate launch date off the cuff like that.

edit: You should also remove the plural from your topic title.

I'm still going to wait and see how the G80 performs against the R520 before I make a final decision.

We were hearing back then that the G70 would be a 32pipe card; OMG nVidia sucks!!!11!1one

ATI has been saying September for ages, looks like they are no expecting be a few weeks late, BFD.

ATI isn't saying to wait for anything, a guy on B3D who went to the ATI event was told that the card should be out in two months.

Damn Rollo, it is a shame that will all the good you manage to bring to this forum you have to spoil it by not being able to keep your fanboy dillusions in check.

It seemed to be a really big deal last year. Didnt it? Why should anything be different now?

I dont recall saying NV fell down. How many times has NV relaunched the same card, with a small speed bump? They launched a PCI-E version of the same cards they had. Yes they had SLI then, but the cards were the same. Which is all I said.

I think you like this "news", just to mock and make fun of people who like ATi. As usual.

If for no other reason, I want the R520 to own the G70 and crossfire> sli, just to see what kind of reactions Rollo gives. I bet you he'll come up with the same things that he was saying about the fx

next gen will be launched within 50-60 days. Performance is higher than 7800, and the ultra, should it ever come to it.

That is some really nice FUD... I wonder if there are any numbers to back up that statement up whatsoever? If R520 was kicking so much ass, why is it that ATI is only showing off it's H.264 capabilities. Don't get me wrong, that is cool, but what about gaming performance?

Im just tired waiting for a new system.

By the time I buy a new system, Nvidia will probably have its 8800 out.

The worst bart about this whole "Launch Party" is that Ati supposedly "Launched" CrossFire, but we have No numbers or info on that!!!

WTF? no wonder they held it down-under, because that's where Ati is headed, LOL.

Actually, thats not at all funny

Anand's crossfire benchmarks.

This week, we were very lucky to get our hands on a CrossFire motherboard and a CrossFire master card from Gigabyte.

If Anandtech considers themselves "lucky" to get hold of a CrossFire setup, what are the chances that the rest of us will be able to..?
