It was an interesting patch night for me thats for sure.
I dont know what anyone else thought about the process itself but here was my overall impression.
Despite having downloaded 4 massive patches prior to last night Blizzard, in their INFINITE wisdom, decided to add another download just to get to the 4.0 level. I dont know about anyone else but I was experiencing abysmal download speeds anywhere from 4 Kb a second to 40. I did everything I could to boost the download but nothing helped. It was the same on P to P or direct, I had it set NOT to throttle the download in the background, and I had no issues with my firewall. I sat at 98% complete for hours as the download slowly crept closer and closer to being done.
Then in typical Blizzard fashion we were treated to two more downloads. The one bright spot in all of this was that the new downloader really improved my download speed. I read a lot of posts from people complaining about the new downloader but I like it.
My main is a level 80 hunter who I run in a guild thats on the last few bosses in ICC. Anyone who has a hunter knows that the changes to our class are massive in this patch and I was very anxious to see exactly how everything was going to shake out.
I finally got in game around 8:30 PM PST and got my talents set up so I could do some preliminary testing before I changed out any gems or did any re-forging. I decided the best test would be to run some missions first and see how I did, and then perhaps run a random heroic or two. But the JOY of patch night was not over for me yet, as Blizzard decided they hadn't finished messing with me.
I decided to head to the tournament grounds for some easy missions that I could compare versus pre patch. I didn't have any of my add on's loaded because I knew they would all be way out of date and might cause me some stability issues with the new patch.
On the way I stopped and killed a few Scourge Mobs and wasnt immediately impressed with the change based on my quick talent choices, though I didnt mind the new focus system as much as I thought I would.
I got to the tournament grounds and picked up three quests in the first tent then headed for the next one to pick up a few more. With No warning I was suddenly disconnected, and despite my best efforts I couldn't log my hunter back on. I could log on ANY of my other toons but not my hunter.
I did the standard "Delete the three WoW game folders and let the game rebuild them" Still the same result. Eventually I gave up and sent in a ticket from one of my other toons.
It was then that I noticed another one of my guild members showing up in our roster. I looked down the list to see who else was still around at this hour and to my amusement it was my hunter.
Apparently when the system booted me out it didn't register my character as having left the server. Typical patch night BS I guess and I expect that it will eventually time out and clear him off the server so I can log in with him again.
So at this point I have killed three mobs and have NO clear idea of how well the new Hunter system is going to work for me.
As I dont PvP much Im not worried about player class balance. Id like to think that the Hunter PvP ability couldnt get any worse than it was pre patch but I NEVER underestimate Blizzards ability to mess things up. Fury Warriors have any comments on that ? LOL
I was looking forward to re-forging some of my gear to add other stats, but I really dont have any gear with odd secondary stats I can blow off. I do have a few points of hit I can take off of some items to trade for Mastery, now if I can only get back in game.
Things are going to be a mess for a while and I expect some major changes prior to Cataclysm launch. I expect to see a lot of people QQing about this that or the other thing but considering Blizzards past history I dont expect them to make any major change of direction.
