Another thing I forgot to post with regards to slowdown in large cities; make World of Warcraft large address aware.

By default the game can only use 2gb of ram, ultra high settings will exceed that memory limitation. Making the game large address aware bumps it's memory usage ability to 3gb.

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112556

There is a blue post somewhere on the wow forums saying it is ok to modify your wow.exe for this purpose.

I did this a while ago, it removed all stuttering I had when turning my character in Orgrimmar and while flying in Orgrimmar, and removed the random out of memory crashes I'd experience.

I think I need to tell my guild tonight that I'm switching to my rogue! We don't have a rogue in our raids (plenty of our raiders have rogue alts), and I've always wanted to be Batman! Now with the wings from the legendary daggers, I can! :D

Post 4.1, WoW is large address aware by default.

It is definitely shadows that tank your system with the increase in players.

Girlfriend is running a GTX 460 and her frame rate held strong, 40-50FPS while she watched our server's first legendary event. There ere at least 100-200 people at the time.

She has her shadows I believe on medium.

I know when I used full shadows I'd see performance hits frequently, one notch below and I don't notice the difference in shadows, and my performance doesn't get hit as hard.

Yeap, just did that. Shadows from Ultra -> High have very little visual difference but bring my FPS from 40 to 65.

turning down the water detail has a massive effect on your frame rate as well, even when there is no water on the screen

Aere there any Horde guilds that are in need of a Warrior Tank? My hope is to get into progression raiding and all my friends have left my old server and wouldn't mind a transfer. I have end game experience from WOTLK but have sat mostly idle this x-pac. I wouldn't mind leading participating in alt runs (or even leading them).

I had to do that on my old laptop (8600GT), but I didn't notice any problems unless I was actually looking at water.

Something happened in a recent patch that made my framerates periodically go to hell when I interact with certain NPCs.

The JC daily person in Org is one I talk to every day - frames go down to the single digits; when I'm done talking, back to ~80 ish.'

It hasn't always been like this.

Patches always affect my fps, even hotfixes. Sometimes it improves, sometimes it gets worse. They are always optimizing their code or adding detail I suppose.

so, I got sucked back into the game D:

I'm home all week recovering from having my wisdom teeth removed (and convincing myself that I have a dry socket D:D:) and a friend sent me a scroll of resurrection to waste time with.

I was questing on my level 85 paladin to get my guild rep up to honored (done) and now I can't decide on which of my "actual" characters to level to 85 -- rogue or warlock.

any suggestions? I haven't really been keeping up with patch notes or anything and I don't know what the current state of each class is.

edit: also, gathering profession suggestions? my rogue is currently leatherworking/enchanting, which made sense when I was raiding and trying to eek out as much dps as possible, but if I decide to level my rogue, I'd rather not have a profession that will require AH'ing tens of thousands of gold in leather skins.

Without looking up how good the Tailoring Embroidering is for Rogues, I don't know if there is a good combination of crafting + gathering profession for Rogues. Blacksmithing, Engineering and Jewelcrafting all provide good agility benefits, but require mining to adequately use. Mining only provides a +stamina bonus, which makes it somewhat useless for raiding (outside of possible survival benefits).

I mostly keep my eye on Assassination, so I'm not sure about what it would be for Combat, but Herbalism provides an on-use Haste buff. Haste is one of Assassination's best secondary stats (right behind Mastery), which makes it far better than the constant crit buff provided by Skinning. You could always combine Herbalism with Enchanting if you want since Enchanting doesn't really have a required gathering profession.

A lot of the times, if I'm worrying about min-maxing, I typically do not use a gathering profession on that character. For example, my Shaman is Jewelcrafting + Engineering, and my Death Knight is Jewelcrafting + Blacksmithing. Given that I'm seriously thinking about switching to my Rogue, I may replace his Skinning with something better..

So yeah, getting tired of raiding. FL is boring and short. 2/7 on heroic and we haven't done more due to real life situations taking control of our 10 man raids.

I just can't wait for Diablo 3.

We're 5/7 right now (just Baleroc and Ragnaros left) and ugh... we had a 14 minute fight against H-Alysrazor. Soooooo dull.

If we had our 10 all log on we could go 6/7 Heroic without question (thanks for the nice health nerf Blizzard). But the fights are just sooooooooo boring.

Baleroc looks like fun to me.

damn, this thread has slowed down o_O

Last week was my first time Cata raiding, and I was in an alt group as resto druid in FL. Maybe around 357ish ilvl, and over 2 raid nights we got up to Rag (and this was despite not doing much reading beforehand on most bosses, and dying during 2 of the bosses). group replaced me with a better geared healer at Rag but downed it. And yes, everyone else I think had done FL before.

Oh and I created another druid out of boredom; pure feral. He's 62 atm :D

Baleroc's pretty boring on normal or heroic when it comes to being DPS. Other than not standing near a crystal, it's pretty much the most patchwerk-y fight next to Staghelm, which is especially patchwerk-y for melee on Heroic!

I'm thinking about taming a beetle and naming it Ringo.

thoughts?

also still trying to think of good names for my dog (blue mage-hunter model) and turtle.

You can change pet names later with a scroll.

We had two of our dps that were decked out leave for another server. So now we are recruiting people. I may try to make this a 25 man guild, dunno. I am disappointed that they were taking loot and looking for another place. I wish them the best though.
