If the dark times return yet again, you might end up getting back all of your money or even more than you paid, for your present GPU, by selling it next year. Helping defray or cover the cost of a new 90 series card. Next week could be the best prices we will see for a long while. DDR pricing is the first domino?

Yeah, I lost out on selling off r9 290 cards and a rx 480 back in 2018 and again in 20-21. Part of me says to buy Nvidia too but I can't bring myself to get a 70 class with 12gb of ram.

In my view, all things considered, it's not a bad time to build a gaming PC, assuming one doesn't already have a decent one.

These days, I'd go with an AMD CPU and noticed RTX 5070Ti could be had for around $700 - $800 on Amazon. This is probably the setup I'd go with if I were building a new PC today.

For me, the upgrade parameter is 50% performance improvement at around the same pice point. In my case, that would be the $700 - $800 range, which would mean the 5080 would have to come down to this range, which doesn't appear to be the case any time soon.

Regarding the FOMO thing, I'm too old to fall for or get wrapped up in any kind of irrational exuberance.

It's probably the best time to build one right now because it'll get worse before it gets better. In the UK there's £199.99 B580s which is a decent 12GB GPU for 1080p.

Ah, generally, yeah, I'd agree.

If I didn't currently have an adequate gaming rig (RTX 3080 12 GB), I'd probably build one during the potential Black Friday sales. Probably would have to do some due diligence comparing & contrasting the 9070XT vs the 5070Ti--no idea which is the better bang for the buck, since I haven't kept up with GPU industry.

Opting for an AMD CPU seems like a no brainer though.

Yeah a good 800 series motherboard + whatever CPU & RAM combo you can afford and you can upgrade to Zen 7 X3D and faster, lower latency, higher capacity DDR5 down the line. That said sadly a lot of 800 AM5 mobos don't have good DDR5 speed capabilities Vs Intel 800s relatively, not bad but disappointing since DDR5 will be crazy by the time RZL or/and Zen 7 will be out by.

Well.... finally did it, bought a new GPU. Picked up a Zotac Solid Core OC SFF 5070 Ti for MSRP at MicroCenter. I had said to myself for the last 2 generations of cards that I would absolutely not pay over MSRP. While this is technically an overclocked card (ie. the "OC") in the name, it is a very, very minimal 1% overclock. I got it because it is 2.5 slot card, and I want to install it in the vertical slot position. While it has 3 slots there, the airflow would be restricted if you do use a 3 slot card. This one also fits under the 340mm limit when using internal storage bays (which I do).

I picked up a PCIe 5.0 extender/ribbon cable (arriving today), so will probably go about the install this weekend. I may also be looking to figure out how to keep the 1060 in this system at the same time so that it can do 32 bit Cuda/PhysX for pretty much all the games I own and still play that run like absolute dog crap without it.

Same here... I caved in and snatched a 9070XT for the equivalent of US$570.
Considering that MSRP was US$599, and I live in Canada, it feels like a solid deal.
With RAM prices expected to hit everything, it's unlikely we'll see any significant price drops.

-That's $404 Freedom bucks

WTAF do you ship internationally or run a network of GPU mules to get cards into the US?

-Edit: NVM ok for $570 us equivalent. Ok Ok sorry folks the persistent GPU price bullshittery was making me hallucinate.

Heh, that used to be my backup gpu for testing stuff. I think it was a MSI 5450 that I got for $50 or so around 2011.
Yep, great GPU for troubleshooting even modern systems with the added benefit of supporting both VGA and HDMI natively. More fun use case is building 15/25/31 KHz CRT compatible emulation machines, for which this card is the best you can get!

Tomorrow only, Newegg has the 5060Ti 8GB for $100 starting 9AM Pacific for Doorbuster deal. Don't know if they'll allow more than 1 per person

What evidence do you have of this? If true, its likely just a PR promotion using 5 cards or something like that. Its a thinly veiled attempt to increase visitation to their site, in other words. If true, the odds of getting one at that price are only slightly better than winning the Powerball, lol.

All their Black Friday deals on this card that I see range from $339-$459.

He's talking about this. It pops up the first time you visit Newegg for the day and can be accessed from their promotional banner. Also, I checked Newegg around five minutes after the new promotion started and they were already sold out. I'm guessing bots or people sitting there refreshing the page grabbed them all first.

- Yeah I gave up on shit like this years ago. Black Friday has been bean counted to oblivion and it's just not worth it to get up early, poach the phone, slam buy buy buy just to maybe possibly hopefully get something that maybe you didn't even want or need in the first place.

Always remember, Hope was the last misery released from Pandora's Box.

LOL...I think every Black Friday impulse buy I've ever made eventually turned into buyer's remorse on some levels. The only exception was my RTX 3080 12GB for ~$600 on Newegg with their promo discount & game bundle.
