That NE doorbuster was a joke. They had 15 or so cards supposedly. I saw the counter say 11 left and it would not do anything when I clicked add to cart at 9am on the dot. Figure bots got to it.
Figured it'd be something like that. That NE doorbuster was a joke. They had 15 or so cards supposedly. I saw the counter say 11 left and it would not do anything when I clicked add to cart at 9am on the dot. Figure bots got to it.
It's a version of the old bait and switch. Cheap viral advertising, and gets people on their site that might not otherwise visit. That NE doorbuster was a joke. They had 15 or so cards supposedly. I saw the counter say 11 left and it would not do anything when I clicked add to cart at 9am on the dot. Figure bots got to it.
Speculation that AMD is going to raise prices on 8 GB models by $20 and 16 by $40 and could go higher later.
I wouldn't be shocked if they continue to increase going forward. You know it is bad when Nvidia is making their board partners source their own memory instead of requiring the board partners to purchase it with the GPU dies like they previously did.
If you need a video card, now is probably the time to get it as I doubt they'll .
OpenAI simply totally screwed the entire end user base over by pulling the garbage that they did, and we'll be seeing the effects for a long time going forward.
Best Buy just had a deal for a 5060 for $150. It seems dumb to do this but it really feels like they are trying to clear out the Pre-Memory Price hike inventory.
Edit: And a 5070 for $399.
Slap that sucker on a GTX 580 and see how far you can overclock it!I got a 4090 Aorus cooler for $37 shipped, it would make a cool desk fan or part of a Lego model. I see standalone fan controllers on amazon that can run the fans and leds with some adapters. It has a lcd screen too but it probably wont work without a pc.
"The GPU price increase of these big techs is due to the rapid increase in the proportion of memory in the GPU cost structure. As the price of memory entering the GPU skyrocketed this year, big techs can't maintain the existing GPU price.
An industry official explained, "The average proportion of memory in the manufacturing cost of the total GPU has recently exceeded 80%."
I just want to know what the price of a GPU with 16gb of VRAM is going to be....To the original question, based on this Twitter post, hell to the no:
LOL...In the past, my attitude had always been, "well, if I blow up a component from oc'ing, just replace it" has now become, "please, don't go out on me for at least a year or two."
$5K for a gpu? It's the free market and they can sell to the highest bidder--it's cool. All I ask is that if and when some of these AI over exuberance meets reality, there is no gov't bailout. It seems to me some of these AI folks are spending as if they have some kind of US Gov't put, similar to the financial industry historically, and I'll be very upset and will vote accordingly should any of these "shoot for the moon" folks receive any kind of tax payer bailout.
-My philosophy for a while has been "if you can't afford to replace it, you can't afford to OC it" so I usually did most of my OCing near the end of a part's lifespan to squeeze a bit more juice outta it rather than at the beginning for a couple % extra performance.
Nowadays everything stays stock or gets a slight under volt at most.
You're paying for AI right now in your ridiculous electric bill. Privatized profits with socialized costs is as American as apple pie and school shootings. Ugh I'm at ground zero of crypto and AI in Texas.Yeah, I did some analysis on power vs performance on my gpu and found the sweet spot to under volt slightly (at around 80% - 85%) with around a 15% clock reduction for maximum efficiency. The loss of FPS was only about a 2% degradation.
In the past, it's not something that would have even interested me, but in CA (where I am) our electricity prices have risen meteorically. So, not thrilled with my electric bill given the wattage needs of modern components. Speaking of AI, if I notice any kind of spread the cost by utilities to me, I'll complain to no end, just as I have been with subsidizing the solar panel folks.
I pay for what I use. Period. This is how it is and will always work.
