And now the 6s+ is backordered 3+ weeks everywhere. I just don't get it. Why do people like such a large and unwieldy phone?

Excellent battery life. Terrific for snapping and viewing pictures. Ideal for web browsing/Reddit. And games of course.

You have to concede on using both hands when using your phone. If you can live with that, and you can deal with carrying around a larger phone, it's a better experience than a non-phablet.

The 4'' iPhone 5 was just the right size IMO. Though the 4.7'' iPhone 6 isn't too bad. I'm not a terribly big fan of these 6'' phones. They seem to be very popular in the Android community. Granted they're easier to work on but they're almost too big to carry around.

I'm tempted to get the 6S but I'm still scoping out some other options. Ideally I'd go off contract but iPhones are way too expensive on their own to go that route.

Particularly in China.

In Chinese culture, yellow and gold represent prestige and good luck. And like here gold is perceived as an object of high value. Gold iPhones are a big status symbol for the nouveau riche over there.

Beats me why the pastel pink, er... "Rose Gold" phones are selling so well. I'd tend to agree that Apple is likely creating an artificial shortage of them to drive up demand. I miss the days when they used to just come in black or white.

The rose gold is the only way that you can let people know you have the latest iphone.

Most people are on their phones more than their computers these days, so a bigger screen makes sense. Heck, I know some people who don't even have computers & only use their phones (which is a foreign concept for most of us here haha). Personally I don't like the bigger size simply because it doesn't fit in my pockets easily. That, and it's not as inconspicuous as a smaller phone ;)

Around my workplace it's mainly the women who get the giant phones. A lot of them find 4.7" phones too big to use one handed anyway, so whether it's a 4.7" phone or a 5.5" phone, they're going to be using it with two hands, and they have the luxury of being able to carry a purse around that can hold that giant phone. A lot of the men don't like them because they don't fit into pants pockets.

I also fall into the group that has problems using a 4.7" phone one-handed, but I don't carry a purse to hold a 5.5" phone. ;)

Lol. I pine for the the glory days when they were the cool new gadget and not the latest fashion accessory. :p

Too bad they don't come in plain white any more. Always liked the look of my 4S. I used to always lose the black 3G I had in the cup holders of rental cars. That thing was like a bloody ninja.

Suppose I'll get silver if I pick one up. I'm still eyeing the Zenfone 2 but the new BlackBerry looks interesting. Android's recent security troubles (and lack of updates) have me second guessing it though.

Because smartphones are used for far more than just phone calls and emails today. People like the bigger screens for pictures, video, web browsing, reading, apps and games, etc.

Honestly the silver is very close to white. It matches the aluminum and white on my 4s very well. It's my favorite choice as well.

Do you guys think the 5s is still a reasonable purchase? Or will it become obsolete quickly?

The 5S has A7 and a small screen - not many pixels to push - so is will do OK for a couple of years. It also has a good camera with burst mode as well as the awesome Touch ID. Also, it does run iOS 9.1 quite well.

However, I wouldn't count on it for longer than that couple of years. In fact, I plan on moving on from my 5S next year, to a 2 GB model.

I'd still rather have a 5 or 5c because more of the 1GB RAM is usable and the overall web browsing / multi-tasking experience is better because of that. My 6 Plus is painful to use, but my mother's 5c is a dream.

5 is fine and it seems to be a bit less ram hungry than the 5S but then again I much prefer the 5S because it has TouchID and camera burst mode.

Also I've noticed occasional slight lag with the 5 which I don't notice with the 5S.

Well with my typical use the 5s, 6 Plus, and iPad mini 2 have been lag fests while my experience with the 5 and 5c was super smooth.

...and it's no mystery. I find my 64-bit devices lose application state much more quickly and things constantly get pushed out of memory, needing to reload. With APIs in memory to support both 64-bit and 32-bit binaries, there's less RAM available for other things.

So, I think I've decided on the iPad Pro as soon as I can get one and the iPhone 6 Plus once the hype / wait time dies down.

Ordered a 6S Plus 128GB (currently using the 4.7"), my pockets are concerned about the larger size as well as the additional weight of the 3D Touch screen... we shall see once it arrives.

I just checked out again the 6 Plus my colleague has. Basically impossible to use one handed and even just holding it one handed was awkward. Wouldn't fit in my pants pockets either.

So for me the 6s Plus is definitely off the list.

Screen size was nice for surfing though.

Meanwhile, 2 Chinese men try to sell kidney for new iPhone 6s

That's the 128 GB model, and the price includes £117 VAT. So the pre-tax price is £582, or about US$900.

My 64 GB Rose Gold 6s finally went "Preparing for Shipment" last night (which was Monday morning China time), and then this morning I noticed in my UPS My Choice account the shipment listed there, although that Apple page never did say it was shipped or give me a tracking number. However, later this morning I finally got an invoice from Apple, and it does say on that it was shipped. Apple's order page hasn't changed though and still says "Preparing for Shipment".

Expected Sept. 25 delivery date. Sweet. Also, the 6s Spigen case is on its way, and the tempered glass screen protector is already here. Perfect timing for my wife, as I can set up the phone over the weekend (and test it out myself) before she starts back at work the following week.
