I bet 640x480 and 800x600 would be 65fps too.
Now if you fps dropped as you turned the resolution up you would be GPU limited.
My 7800gs does the same thing with CSS. To get the fps to drop I have to turn everything on high with aa/af at 1600x1200. At 1280x1024 and down my fps stays the same.
Now FEAR is a different story.
I can only run 1280x1024 at med settings for playable fps.

Apoppin, I'm sure your rig was just bottlenecking the crap out of your X1950pro. I'm pretty sure that 6500ish in 3dmark 05 is extremely low for that card, but in your rig it is probably dead on. My 8800GTX gets 12000 in 3dmark 05, but my X1900XT could get 10700. There is a lot more than 1300 3dmark power dfference between the 2 cards but my rig at the default resolution of 1024X768 just cant deliver enough muscle for the GTX to shine. In 3dmark 06 I was getting 5400 with the XT and hit 8300 with the GTX. Hmmm, bigger gap in a more graphic intensive benchmark at a higher rez... ie. 1280X1024. With your rig the 7800 gs is probably better suited as you dont have enough horsepower to utilize the X950pro. Looks like an end of the road for AGPI could be totally wrong
** edit: more likely an end of the road for the P4

However your numbers for the X1950 Pro do seem very low for some reason ... might well be the P4 is choking it as has been said because it should score considerably higher ... my old 6800GT on an A64 3200+ @ 2.2ghz came pretty close to your numbers with the Pro in everything except Oblivion & thats just not right.
Bottom line is that I agree that you might have been best off just sitting on the X850XT & saving up for an 8800GTS with a faster CPU to push it, but I've done the same kind of thing more then once myself & hindsight vision is always 20/20!

I knew my 7800gs was cpu limited except for FEAR or If I cranked up the resolution to 1600x1200 and aa/af. I think with AGP cards we are looking for more fps. Not cranking up the settings to match our cpu bottleneck.

i/we knew that .,.. i was NOT looking for more FPS ... my x850xt already game me good FPS in EVERY game .... i wanted "eyecandy" ... "details" ... HDR
--if you have ANY doubts look at my posts in that long x1950p thread
my whole argument *for* upgrading from a x850xt was 1) details/eyecandy at the max resolution my CPU can handle and 2) SM3.0/HDR
it completely fulfilled my expectations and was a definite upgrade from my old GPU ... everything that was "marginal" on my 850 was now "maxed"
BUT it had "problems" and also didn't like my PS
[if it had NO problems, i would still be happily (if a bit ignorantly) gaming ...]
of course IF i had KNOWN about the 7800GS - and i STILL could NOT have saved money until it went on sale this month - i would have upgraded to it instead
all said, it's gonna cost me an "extra" 50 bucks ... the 'loss' on my x1950p
BUT - here's the really IMPORTANT question ...
How does this 7800GS purchase affect my *status* as an "ATi Fanboy" here?

That was not personally to you apoppin. I remember people saying it was ok to upgrade with a AMD Barton chip or a pent 2.8. I kept telling them "your not gonna see much difference with a 1950 pro". Most games out NOW I can use most of the eye candy with the 7800gs.
Hey if you have a pent 4 3.8 or AMd at 2.5 ,it might be worth it. If you have a pent 4 chances are your monitor is a 1280x1024 max or mabe 1600x1200. So your not cranking up the res anyway. Mabe some aa/af

not yet ... i guess use RivaTuner ... what should i aim for?
are there any automatic o/c'ing utilities to get it roughly ... then manually fine tune it?
. . . and it looks like g70 - not 71 - from the RT sub system report:Graphics core: NV47/G70 revision A1 (16pp,6vp)

Well if you have the G70 version go for 500 core 1400 memory.( I have a G70) Use coolbits and use find optimum overclock feature.
I think Stumps has (had) the G71 core which has a faster core usually.
Coolbits was a little *optimistic* ... it reported 500/2.67 as "attainable" ... it wasn't quite stable ... i found some lower setting but didn't like the fan noise ...Originally posted by: happy medium

I watch the temperature which is 41c at idle and 59 under gaming conditions.

so if i crank up the APG voltage a bit ...
500/1350 here we come
maybe not ... i already have one defective card in RMA process [that Sapphire x1950PoS will cost $30 to get back and will probably fail again]![]()
