I just don't see the point of having a 850w psu if excess ripple might exist at high loads.. But that's just me..
And I can't show you nothing else about 850w.. Is it better than the 700w? Who knows? Given the history the same series of psu's have the same problems.. But of course I can be wrong here.. I hope I am.. I have nothing against OCZ.. And JG said that if FSP and OCZ could get together and fix the ripple issue then we would talk about a "benchmark psu".. I don't think he's biased against them either..
Most of all I don't think your psu is unreliable.. :) Not even close.. I do believe that you won't even need anything remotely close to that load.. I just argue your perspective.. That's all..

you hit the nail on the head ... the *difference* between us

however, it isn't "vicious" :p

it's a matter of *maybes* ... you won't "take a chance" for saving $50 ...
i will

it's a matter of best 'bang-for-buck' for *my* next rig ...
in my opinion ... a *solid 8* from JG is good enough for me - considering the 850w is supposedly "improved" over the older 700 he tested.

it is "later" than the 700w PS and why would they NOT improve it? ... they are aware of the *ripple* in JG's review and OCZ seems like a company that works to improve its products ... over it's short history ... i like 'em and i want to give it a chance

small risk ;)

tiny

almost non-existent with a 3 year exchange warranty ...

OK?

IF i am wrong ... then i will let you know you were right ... i promise
... and i will accept the consequences ... just like i did with my x1950p ;)

Well actually it is not 50$ more for some risk.. It's all your rig's budget in risk against 50$..
That's why I'm not taking any change.. If it were for a gpu or a cpu purchase then I wouldn't be anywhere near that strict..

Anyway I like OCZ as well.. They have very good memory parts, lately they opened up their horizon to gpus they make peripherals.. But I don't trust them fro psus yet.. And in this case they can't do nothing by themselves.. It's FSP's fault that this issue occur..They make their psus and put the brand of OCZ on them.. If they have resolved the issue remains to be seen..

And I hope that I won't need to hear from you about this.. For the love of God why would I? :p
You'd better not have to accept the consequences.. Because last time I checked with a failure in my rig it wasn't just my psu and my video card dead.. It was my cpu too..And psu warranty don't cover other components that might be lost in the battle.. :( :p
Nm I wish you the best of luck.. I don't think you'll have the slightest issue.. ;)

thanks, i guess

i don't really feel i am taking *any* risk with my OCZ 850... any more than with ANY other PS

they are all subject to failure ... every one ever made price and "quality" and ripple notwithstanding

and i mistook you fr someone else in the latest thread i made ... i edited it
anyway - VtMR ... is my "in-between" game ... i just finished it's successor VtMB and could not bring myself to play the fUgly-as-hell 8x6 '99 game PlanetScape:Torment ... i don't *ever* remember '99 Gfx being so crappy ... Unreal was beautiful ... even a couple of years later when i played it in '01.

*What AT-Wiki?*
:Q
i didn't used to be there :p

someone who evidently likes me got ahold of it :)

that may not be the prevailing opinion here ...

and your PS is *really* nice ... Stainless steel body, huh? ... no compromise ... and no doubt expensive.

It came to just under £100 (~$190). My last PSU the Hiper Type-R 580W was jet black but I wasn't quite ready to stress it with C2Q & 8800GTS SLI so figured I should upgrade it aswell.

As for the AT Wiki: AT-Wiki

Thankfully nobody has added me on there. The Wiki even has a short list of banned members & why they were banned (yes, including Rollo & dug777).

I never played Planescape: Torment but I wasn't heavily into RPG's then & yes Unreal was gorgeous back in the day (can't find the original CD but I still got the expansion CD).

If you liked VtM:B you might like to try out Troika's guys newest creation when it's released called Dropship. It's a Turn Based RPG...

Well, my 850w OCZ arrived ... which is mindboggling fast from NewEgg via UPS cheapie

and evidently the spec has been *improved* i see a sticker covering the *18 amp* ... with now 4 x 20a on the 12 v rail ... that should give me 70a total, right?
:)

anyway, it is a HELL of a lot *lighter* then i imagined possible ... :p

and really 'cheap' metal for the housing - which is 'fine', IF that's 'where' they saved money ;)

Huge-ass fan
:camera:

and the wire bundle is *massive* ... almost the same 'volume' as the PS itself
:Q

OMG ... it's all modular ... can i connect it to my old Abit IC-7 MB without cutting and soldering?

i'll look into this after dinner and update you

better run the GS first and see what it can *do* ... it goes back on Mon ... anyway

not really

top-down, mouse-click-to-move like NWN2 and KotOR or 1st or 3rd Person like Oblivion or Gothic series?

AFAIK it's a mistake in their label and OCZ has announced this... True specs remain 4X18A

Anyway I don't care about the aesthetics part of a psu.. Mine looks almost generic :p
But it's heavy.. :D

just a note ... some[one] of you seemed to be complaining in that "delayed' thread
[about everything i do, what's new?]

*no 7800GS OCs were "harmed" in any of my 'testing'*

- i did NOT O/C or test it after getting my new PS ... it is packed for the return journey to NewEgg and a new life as an "open box"
[nvidia is not *picky* about mildly O/C'ing their cards like ATi IS ... hopefully that stupidity will *change* now that AMD is in charge.

--it goes back to NewEgg well within their guidelines for a RMA ... and with a little "regret" :(

7800GS is an *awesome* card for the money ... don't "worry" about IQ or 'shimmering'

that said ... i am 100% satisfied with my PS ... that 850w OCZ is *silent* ...
... and it's *fine* for me to be back running with an ATi GPU in my rig [again]

over 8K in 3DMark05 ... should *last* me till next year
[hopefully this Sapphie is functional on my PS] :p

They are more famous among former owners for the "Codegen bang" when the PSU literally blows up. If that doesn't happen the ultra cheap fan usually decides it wants sound like a 747 taxiing for takeoff when it grows up...

so then,

a 1000w Codgen would give us a *BiG BanG*;)

just a theory :p
