Hmm, I'll have to head to the market and check that again. I thought I saw a str requirement on the best bow, but maybe I was looking at a sword.

Game still fun? Looking at getting into it sometime soon...

It's fun for me. Depends on what you like, I guess. The world is huge, and because of the free-for-all PVP model it's dangerous. I like that combination. The devs still have a lot of work to do, imo, but for me it's worth the monthly.

The only weapon I can think of with two stats on it are the one-handed swords. They worth with either dex or str but have a minimum requirement for one or the other at R40 and above.

Huge world and ffa pvp - sounds goood to me. I'll buy when it's on sale again.

What are the PvP looting rules? Any?

And what's the game like now for new players? Long struggle to gain power while being hunted and slaughtered like a rabbit by almost everyone else?

When you kill someone you can either leave them be, or "gank" them, which sends them back to their bind point and leaves their grave there with whatever they were carrying. That means everything but the starter weapons, which are bound to you and never wear out, and can't be removed.

For new players? Yep, you have it about right.

There's a guy in my guild who's at 15k prowess without killing a single thing after the tutorial kills. I have no idea how he did it lol.

You mean no PVE killing either? Harvesting doesn't grant all that much prowess but refining and crafting sure as hell do. I'm near 11k prowess, but I have done a bunch of PVE farming. I can usually get 1000-1500 gold from an hour or two spent "raging" skeleton warriors.

Any armor crafting you can do without leather = ton of prowess.

Even making weapons, selling, and buying leather to craft other stuff without having to kill.

Apparently that's how he's doing it :p

Ran around the map a bit, went from the human areas directly north and the west starting areas, i'm amazed how few people i see there. The human lands you can barely access the bank there are so many people, hardly saw anyone in the other starting areas.

A couple of days ago I made the run from the dwarf lands to Flaming Skull (what race lives there? I don't know, but they are all ugly). It does seem a little less populated there than in the elf lands to the west. Last night I swam out from Nerzok to our alliance city. So now I have access to clan crafting bonuses and a base from which to head out fishing, or explore down the coast.

Some of the most fun I've had in the game so far is trying to get from one place to another without being seen. Made me wish often for in-game weather and longer nights.

Does anyone know which races share which capital cities? For example, I am Mirdain, but I started in the zone around Amurran, which is the home of the Mahirim, at least according to the official site. Cor Ymithril in the north I think is the home of the Tovarr, and I assume Flaming Skull is the home of the Orcs.

Yeah Flaming Skull is Orc city, i had very good luck harvesting iron nodes in the safe areas around there.

Amurran = wolflands capital
Cor Ymithril = dwarflands capital
Sanguine = humanlands capital
Flaming Skull = orclands capital

elf lands do not have a safe zone or capital

Is that a challenge? :)

My next overland trip will be to the SE area, human lands I think. But for now I am going to hug our alliance city and raise bowyer and do some fishing in my wherry.

How is the population? What timezone do you play? I wanted to give this a try again since they redid everything.

The graphics suck! Why do all the recent MMO's look like they were made in 2002?

I'll take a good game with mediocre graphics over a polished and gorgeous snooze-fest any day. But I don't think the graphics in DFUW are all that bad.

First PVP battle last night, and it was a blast. I was doing some logging inside Tiqiya when I heard explosions from out front. There were only two or three of us in the city at the time. By the time I had made it up to the front to see what was going on the first gate was down. There were perhaps 6-8 enemy getting to work on the second one. We put out a call and people started porting in. Drove the attackers back out to their ship. They put to sea, and we spawned a coastal runner and chased them down. Had a nice ship-to-ship battle. Killed them all and captured their vessel. I love the fact that archery is effective at long distances if you can get the aim right.

Most PVP fun I have had since DAoC.
