So, apart from the quoted two below, I also watched...

Soul Eater NOT! - Ah... I am disappointed by the existence of this series. Why can't we just get a version of Soul Eater that actually follows the manga? If this show is popular enough, maybe we will! Anyway, this is really more of a comedic school anime set in the same world as Soul Eater with random appearances from characters from the main series. I don't know if it's nearly as interesting as other recent and similar series like Love Lab, but I'll probably at least give it another episode! Oh, and... it lacks good the good opening music (OP 1, OP 2) like Soul Eater had!

Mahouka - 2 eps seen, I can't stand this. It's so cliched and lame. But the type of cliched and lame that attracts an army of fanboys. Skirts the watchable / unwatchable level for me.

I just watched the first episode today, and it didn't seem that bad to me. Now, to be fair, a few things have a really good chance to go wrong at this point. First of all, the series has the sort of stoic, uncaring main character. Those sort of characters can be really great if they have some sort of character flaw or something else to make them relatable. If not, they're just boring! There's also the fact that the sister has the hots for her brother, and it's that obvious. Oh, Japan!

However, I did really like the fight scenes. I thought they were well-animated and conveyed the action really well.

But as of right now, it's just kind of in the "okay..." category for me.

Dragonar - I couldn't even sit through half an episode, so no real comment except nothing grabbed me (though the MC did grab boobs right at the start if I remember correctly).

Good god, this anime was uncomfortable to watch. It's an eroge anime that's borderline hentai! His horny dragon woman smothers him with her gigantic missile tits, and later on "checks his most sensitive part with her mouth". My thought was, "They're not going there... are they?" Yeah... they (or rather, she :p) went there. Thankfully, those creepy rape moments (the guy can't move) only last a minute or two, but the problem is that the rest of the series isn't terribly interesting.

So hamburger boy, have you seen magicka madoka movie 3 yet?

If not, don't. They take the happy and heart warming ending form the series and smash it to little pieces. =(

Sorry, I read your question without reading the rest and immediately hit back and proceeded to watch it. :p

I'm not sure how I feel about it tbh. Even putting aside whether or not I thought Homura was acting in character, the movie didn't seem to follow the rules set in the series despite it previously trying so hard to create their own little logical universe.

Quite true! All the TMR songs from Gundam SEED were the best part. ...or if we want to go a bit older, there's always the ending from Rurouni Kenshin! Although, my favorite ending took place during some of my crappy filler junk: Dame!

Have you seen Tommy Heavenly6's weird Lollipop Candy ♥Bad♥ Girl video (this is the longer video, which has a bunch of extra crap at the beginning)? I first saw it way back in college, but I can't forget it because of all the weirdness... like that creepy rabbit! ...and singing into the most random objects!

You should check out the annual Inazuma Rock Festival that TMR organizes - kick ass live performances of Heart of Sword (Rurouni Kenshin), Sword Summit (Sengoku Basara), Innocent Sorrow (D-Gray-man), Howling (Darker than Black), etc. :)

That said, the OPs for Valvrave are pretty f*cking epic (TMR and Nana Mizuki) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnJm4tyvs4M&t=2m44s&hd=1

That TH6 PV is pretty much my standard Halloween vid. Heck, the video length is exactly 10:31 :p

I thought it was well within the rules they had set.
Kyuubi in the series said that every wish always ended up having a negative inverse reaction in the end. Why would Madoka's wish be any different? Also bear in mind Homura's decision was not wholly her own. Kyuubi's nightmarish world coupled with becoming a witch had partially warped her sense of self. They probably could have conveyed that point better and the film really does need a second viewing. But ultimately, there really wasn't a point to continuing the story if they weren't willing to blow it up and turn everything on its head like what they did with episode 3.

Isn't the whole "negative inverse reaction" thing a part of their "entropy" explanation, and doesn't Kyuubi say that the granted of Madoka's final wish cause the very system to be rewritten such that they no longer need to have others sacrifice their purity to cleanse despair? I took the result of that to mean that the very system actually was changed. If so, the isolation shield bit sounds like a violation of the wish rather than a corruption of it; if Madoka can change the universe and go back to purify every fallen magical girl, I don't see why she would be stopped by the Incubators in that way.

Actually now that I think about it, isn't Soul Eater NOT kinda like Darker than Black : Gemini of the Meteor (in that the original was better)?

Hey ANime God! I never watched Soul eater before, do you think it's worth watching? Did you like it?

I liked Soul Eater, but it does deviate from the manga somewhere around the 30s (I think...). I think the best parallel series that I can think of would be Fullmetal Alchemist. They have a very similar "feel" to them where there's a good amount of action, but it lets the story carry it. D.Gray-Man might be another good parallel, and you might like that one as well. Although, I would say that Soul Eater probably has a bit more humor in it than FMA did.

Hmm I've never heard of that, and I didn't even know that he did some of those songs! ...albeit, that's probably because I mostly read the D.Gray-Man manga and haven't seen Darker than Black. :p I keep meaning to watch Sengoku Basara at some point.

I almost feel like starting up Valvrave again just to hear some TMR! I quit that show around episode three when the main character just started blubbering, "I'm a monster!" The problem is that Valvrave aired after Gundam AGE, and I was sick and tired of wussy main characters in mecha series after AGE. In fact, I never finished AGE either! I got up to somewhere in the 40s, and I just stopped.

That TH6 PV is pretty much my standard Halloween vid. Heck, the video length is exactly 10:31 :p

Heh.. I didn't even notice the length. I always watched the shorter one that doesn't have all the extra fluff in it, but it always draws me in. Although, my favorite would be Goto Maki! (Of course, not for the music!)

It's a shame about Gundam AGE - I love the 4th OP (Aurora by Eir Aoi)

There seemed to be a pretty steady stream of good mecha (Zeta, 08th MS, G, Wing, SEED, SEED Destiny, 00, Unicorn), then it suddenly became meh (AGE - everything looks chibi-fied, Build Fighters) :(

At least we can look forward to the HD remasters of Wing, SEED Destiny, etc and already have Zeta and SEED in 1080p :)

While I grew to loathe AGE, I actually watched all of Build Fighters. Yeah... the story was kind of silly, but to be honest, it really wasn't a "true Gundam series." It's really more of a show for the fans -- especially those that love building Gundam models! Honestly, while I like Gundam Wing, I think it's safe to say that it's the Final Fantasy VII for the series. In other words, it's not bad, but it introduced a few things/concepts that got worse and worse in later entries. You get those brooding, unemotional characters that really aren't all that interesting to watch, which we all know definitely describes Heero. Although, at least part of his deal was the slight change in his character, but that took a good 50-ish episodes and an OVA movie to do! :p My least favorite so far has probably been the 00 movie Awakening of the Trailblazer. 00 in itself went to this weird sort of philosophical/meta/make-shit-up mumbo jumbo near the end, and the movie just got even worse.

I've seen the HD remasters of Wing come out, but I have to wait a bit for my favorite part... the introduction of Epyon! :awe:

Weep! Fullmetal was ok. I only watched brotherhood though. I've heard the original has less humor and more action? Oh and the ending is the opposite :) Nevertheless it was a pretty good watch. I have D gray man Manga and I'm reading volume 3 atm, it's really good and the Anime looks promising too. I will watch it after reading all the volumes I guess. I think I'm going to read a couple volumes first then watch Soul eater though. :)

Right now I'm watching Gintama. I'm on episode 190teesomething. Gintama is SOOOOO funny! I recommend this to everyone, it's too good! Even if you don't understand Japan culture the subtitles explain what they are mean anyways hehehe :)

Semi-related stupid question.

I never got into anime, but in my adulthood went through and played the Pokemon games, kinda just because. (Yes, I caught them all, no, I mostly didn't cheat.)

The only anime I've ever sat through was at a party in college, the first couple episodes of Inu Yasha, where they broke some orb into a bazillion pieces and set up a rather obvious episode-of-the-week-plot of "locate shard, overcome obstacle, retrieve shard, lather, rinse, repeat."

So, while I realize I have a sample set of two... is collecting things a big deal in anime or Japanese culture in general? Or is this just a coincidence?

It's a genre of anime. It's pretty big in their culture too. They have those vending machines that have little figurines in them and people would try to collect the whole set...

Hmm.. so I've been watching more of Black Bullet, and I have one rather big complaint about it, which will sound strange: it's too fast. The plot just moves so quickly that nothing really sets in before they change gears. For example, during the second episode,
the girl, Enju, ran away after someone revealed that she's a cursed child. The dude went looking for her, gave a speech at the hideout, she heard it and the episode ended.
Then during episode 3,
that was all nicely patched up when he finds out that she just came back. THEN during the middle of the episode, the masked guy's initiator stabs the dude through the kidneys and the masked guy shoots him in the lung. A minute later, he's up again and going after the masked guy. The episode ends with them looking down on a location where the masked guy is.

I'm not really pleased with the pacing of the show. I watched more of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, and it's still okay I guess. I'm not really sure where the show is going, but ignoring the weird sister-love stuff, it seems okay so far.

Don't dismiss some series like Code Geass, in which the protagonist doesn't actually pilot a mech :)

Well, he isn't a main pilot in the show like
his friend
, but he does pilot one sometimes.

Diamond no Ace is good as well
MNS placed them as the best anime of the week and it's one of my favorites as well!
http://www.manganetabarespoiler.com/4/post/2014/04/what-was-the-best-anime-of-this-week.html

You seem a bit biased since your name is from the show. ;) I watched Dia no Ace until I couldn't wait for the episodes each week, and I started reading the manga instead. The only thing that might turn off people is the incredibly obnoxious main character, but that's supposed to be his charm. He's sort of like pre-Shippuden Naruto.

Cowboy Bebop in 1080p

Technically only the Japan BR is available at the moment; FUNimation says the official R1 BR is slated for release sometime this year.

Being the impatient bastard that I am, I ripped the Japan BRs and muxed in the US audio from my old R1 DVDs :)

I watched Chuunibyo demo Koi ga Shitai! this weekend after seeing a video on it, and it's quite an odd series, but good. I think it was the light humor (mostly comprised of slapstick comedy) that kept me around.

Eh... you can probably just find subs on the net for it. Why would you want to ruin the anime with English dubbing!? Also, while I've never seen Cowboy Bebop in 1080p, I've never really seen the benefit of any anime in 1080p. The problem is that most anime tend to use a lot of solid colors (like most cartoons), which makes resizing them not so bad quality-wise. If I download any anime, it's usually just in 720p.

The English dub for Bebop in particular is extremely well done. Hell, even Shinichiro Watanabe and Yoko Kanno really like and/or prefer the voices in the English dub for Bebop :)

Eh, I checked out a random episode (#4) on YouTube, and I don't really see it. Spike's voice is fine, Jet's is so-so, but as you'd expect, the rest are fairly mediocre. While I certainly don't go out of my way to watch dubs, the best one that I've ever heard was Read or Die (OVA). I only ever saw a tiny bit of it, but the voices didn't really bother me.

Although, I also have no idea if their subs are any good either. I've seen a few American anime releases that take a few too many liberties in their translations, and I'm not referring to those that Americanize the Japanese cultural aspects and/or jokes/references. :p
