AMD stock prices are on their way down!!! Finally...
???
that statement is nothing without a time frame

AMD is was around $19 a month ago, $20 a year ago, and $12 two years ago. i would not call $24 down

the 3 month and 6 month charts are down however

looks like amd is going back up now.. $26
But intel, with their smashing core2duo is still at the same price.
The old stock of P4s should be gone, I don't see them sold anymore aside from Pentium D.
Dell's move to AMD must've really hurt intel.

Did you watch AMD's stock fall 13+% two days ago? I was considering posting here again, but the thread really died. AMD is again approaching the area where I'd call it a buy (~$18).

I need opinions from anyone who's been tracking AMD stocks or has AMD stocks on whether now is a good time to buy.

I had a lot, sold it semi-recently. It's quite high right now, historically speaking (and not counting the late 90's tech boom). They've got a lot of potential, then again, there is a lot of speculation Intel will re-take the lead in design in the near future... so it may not be a great bet. Could go either way!

are you joking? it was trading at 37 2 summers ago, when i got out. and it's ltm high was ~42. i would actually start shorting at this point

I have INTC, which barely budges regardless of good/bad. I may sell it and get AMD in the 'teens.

Actually this is a pretty bad time to buy stock in most markets. It's probably better to put your money in CD, treasury bills or other interest-bearing savings.

Having said that, both AMD and ATI CEO has just been interviewed by Bloomberg, you can watch the video on bloomberg.com.

Lol... care to make any more predictions on down markets?

I had to come back to ATOT for this one thread, but I won't stay long. A one year bump just seemed to be too interesting. Ok, I'm one day ahead of a 1-year bump, you got me on a technicality.

AMD one year ago: ~$42.
AMD in the mean time: a nearly linear drop (aside from a dip in July/Aug).
AMD today: $15.66 as I type.

I've said repeatly never to buy AMD unless it was below $18. Aside from a few short-term roller coaster plays (such as from $20 to $27 to $20 in Aug/Sept/Oct), anyone who violated that rule lost money (this paragraph is only valid since I started posting that limit on ATOT in this and other threads). Now AMD is significantly below $18. It is finally something to consider buying. Although, I would wait until it appears to have bottomed.

True, you can't ever pick the bottom perfectly. But, wait until it appears to have (1) fallen, (2) leveled, and (3) risen back up a bit. If you do that at ~$15/share*, then you probably have a good investment. True, it could keep falling, but the risk of AMD falling at $15/share is a whole lot less than the risk you faced at $42/share.

*$15 is just a hypothetical number where you might have seen the fall, level, and slight rise. AMD has repeatedly reached the $8-$10 range. You might have to wait until it is closer to $10 to see those three events.

Thanks for the update, dullard. OMG, AMD stock dived like Italian soccer players! If it hits $10 I'm definitely going in.

aaaaaaaahahahahahhha!!!!!!!
I bought it because I knew they were going to report their earnings for the quarter the following week. They still beat the analysts' estimates but analysts said profit margin were smaller than expected. The stock took a dive. 🙁

That's about as good as an idea as the guys who bought in around page 4,5,6,7 on this thread!

Value buying is only good, when the stock isn't dropping like a rock...

Wait for SOME momentum to go AMD's way heh. I think AMD is still a good 2-3 dollars too expensive right now based on their current situation.

Hmm it looks like AMD's board of directors approved spliting the stock 2:1 which effectively doubles the amount of common stock available in the market. This has been filed with the SEC.

My question is why? I guess it is to prevent a take over. Does anyone know whether this would havea negative, postive or netural affect on the stock price (split adjusted of course)?

Here's the link: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37982
(Yes I know it is an Inquirer link, but the filing is available with the SEC on EDGAR online).
