I need opinions from anyone who's been tracking AMD stocks or has AMD stocks on whether now is a good time to buy.

I had a lot, sold it semi-recently. It's quite high right now, historically speaking (and not counting the late 90's tech boom). They've got a lot of potential, then again, there is a lot of speculation Intel will re-take the lead in design in the near future... so it may not be a great bet. Could go either way!

Well if you just want to gamble I might consider buying google right now. AMD has been up around 23% now since their earnings report recently, I wouldn't expect it to go up too much more from here.

I've got about $650 in it (purchase price, value is about $1000). I am looking for 15+ years, so I am not worried. I think the shares are going to drop a lot over the next 5 years, but oh well.

Careful with Google, way overvalued and their click fraud management is going to bite them in the a** real soon, among other issues.

While I agree, they have many other things lined up that will probably be released later this year - just search around on google.com, ironic huh? :p

and the stock is severely overpriced and almost certainly going to crash.

AMDs debt is enormous, look at their P/E, its worse than goog.

I got some pretty much exactly 1 year ago when they were around 12 or so then sold them like 5 months later when they were $15 - shoulda held onto them looking at it now. However I would strongly advise you not to buy now. They are freakishly high, have P/E of way more than a hundred and historically, one bad execution of a new launch or heaven forbid a not so competitve product and the AMD price tumbles (remember it has been way below $10 not very long ago). If you want to invest in a CPU manufacturer look at Intel they are fairly low in the moment. (P/E is also very low)
However never look for stock advice on an internet message board....

I would agree in the short run.. it might fall a little in the next week, but not by much, and it might grow even more as AMD is still very profitable now.

I wish I didn't sell 95 shares in mid decmeber for 27.50, but I did buy some at under 8. And to think that i was all ready to buy 1000 shares at 3.5 around 3.5 years ago.

I've some that I bought at $14.75 little over a year ago. I'ven't sold or added any additional shares. I think AMD still has another good 6-12 months left.

I've been putting my new money in drug stocks. I added shares in Pfizer in January to go along with my existing Merck shares. I think drugs will outperform the market in the next 6-12 months as I think the new Medicare Drug program benefits the drug companies solely, and I think we're headed for recession in 2007. Since market is forward looking about 3-6 months, I think drugs are the place to be second half of the year IMO.

3 week update:
Looks like INTC plunged more, and AMD stayed about even.

So much for a bursting bubble.

AMD is only gaining marketshare and profitability now. I don't see them dropping too much. They will not drop down back to the pre athlon64 levels at this rate. Not unless Intel comes back with a fierce competitor, which doesn't seem likely at this point.
