Keep in mind that INTC is lower as well. So its not necessarily what AMD is doing, but rather the industry as a whole.

I like AMD, use AMD cpus, and hope they do well.

That being said, I wouldn't own AMD stock, it just doesn't mesh with my investing philosophy.

Do you know that Intel made more PROFIT in Q4 2006 than AMD has made in it's entire history combined?

People always compare Intel vs AMD and look at market share of the CPU market. There is SO much more to it than that.

I wouldn't own either of those 2 companies at the moment, but if I had to pick, Intel is a much better choice, and if it drops to $17.50, it will become VERY interesting.

Lol, I read this thread, and people were talking about AMD in the 20's and 30's and I was thinking "WTF are these guys talking about" then I realized I was reading posts from feb 2006, not feb 2007!

The rock keeps sinking. AMD had a revenue warning today causing the latest slide. Combined with the whole Nasdaq slide for the last week, AMD's stock didn't have a chance.

I think it is now at the lowest point since mid 2004. I'm beginning to really get interesting in buying in. If it hits ~$12 around the time my tax return hits, I know where my tax return money is going.

That's about as good as an idea as the guys who bought in around page 4,5,6,7 on this thread!

Value buying is only good, when the stock isn't dropping like a rock...

Wait for SOME momentum to go AMD's way heh. I think AMD is still a good 2-3 dollars too expensive right now based on their current situation.

Still hoping to buy since it's at the 52 week low? It's hit a new low today at around 12.80$. At the time of this quote, the stock was at 15$.

If the stocks starts to stagner around this level, it may be sign of a bottoming out, but there is still no good news coming out of the AMD camp. Very good chance to hit single digits.

yeah.. ive been following it for a while, and every once in a while it will rebound up a half-dollar or so, but the next day it will hit a new 52 week low. I will be tempted to buy some if it hits single digits, however.

Any ideas what's going on with intel? Their stock hasn't really gone up from the core2duo release. Their profits/revenue has went up, so why hasn't their share value gone up too?

Semi sector is not doing well right now. Not only that they are engaged in a price war with AMD.

Tons of inventory, severe price competition and low margins, declining market share and the general hatred that people have against big companies like Intel.

With established companies like Intel and Microsoft who have pretty much cornered the market, they are expected to perform consistently high, which while is unfair in terms of stock share price, keeps the stock priced steady. It's just a bad industry right now. Investing in the chip industry is similar to buying in the airline industry.

AMD reports revenue will be far below expectations. AMD originally expected 1st quarter reveue at $1.6B-$1.7B, the street was expecting $1.55B, and now it looks to be more like $1.23B. That is far below expectations and below last year's revenue. Full Story.

Result: AMD stock up nearly 4%. Bah, it was so close to buying levels. But I think it'll be back down again.

They offered a cost cutting plan: end discretionary spending and stop hiring for virtually all jobs.

In other words, AMD is putting a bandaid on a serious wound. Buying now would be the same as buying from GM or Ford when they made their last job cutting announcements. This move does not positively impact revenue in any way.

Revenue is meaningless in the end. Profit is all that matters. Too bad people look at revenue too much and ignore profit (Enron had massive revenue and no profit). Raising profit without raising revenue is not a bandaid - it is a definite cure.

However, I get your point. When the cure requires you to take 20 pills and they are only ever going to take 5 of them, the cure won't work.

It's not a hard rule, note the wording - never buy JUST because - you have to factor in more than that. I hear too many times "it's at a 52 week low it's cheap"

I'm a total stock n00b - why would them announcing 1st quarter revenue to be far below expectations cause their stock to rise? Isn't their announcement a bad thing?
