I'm from the Northeast, which means if I dive at home, I'm using a drysuit, which costs a ton to maintain. My regulator was a couple hundred bucks, my fins were about $200, my mask and snorkel were about $100, my BCD was about $300, my dive watch cost about $800, and each dive (in the US, from a boat, with a divemaster) set me back about $75-100. Whenever I get new certs, though, I do it somewhere nice and warm and non-english speaking (read:indonesia) so the classes are cheap and the dives cost no more than $35. Oh, and the flights to good dive destinations aren't cheap, either...

bingo. scuba is uber expensive if you're really into it

which, sadly for my wallet, I am.

Audio stuff mainly. Half of the time, I don't even know why I bought the stuff.

meh, you've just about got her setup now.

You need a new motor.
;)

:D
Pretty much, and I just smoked an engine so yes I need a new one. :p
The fact that I already have a brand new RB C6BB and a barely broken in MAC 21 doesn't really matter.

I have 12 guns...3 surfboards...2 Nitro RC cars...1 RC heli...1 RC airplane...2 really nice road bikes...oh, and I'm looking into getting a motorcycle. We won't get into the computer hardware or the DVD collection. :p

Are RC cars and planes and stuff expensive? For a uh..."decent" setup, what price range are we looking at?

<---not interested in getting into it, just curious.

It takes you $1500 to get a nice raceworthy 1/8 Scale Buggy with most parts you need.
Then you just need to ad the running expenses - fuel, filters, glowplugs, clutches, bearings, tires, tires, tires and more tires, major spare parts, cleaning supplies......

It's a never ending spending spree. :D

Heh, doesn't sound like your hurting. :p

It's just ironic because this is the same wife that likes to cut coupons for groceries and loves buy one get one specials. But she has no problem dropping $2K on a coffee table.

With my marked propensity for serial hobbying, I have developed the hobby of inexpensive hobbying.

I enjoy wine a great deal, but never spend more than $15 a bottle with the average being about $8.
I enjoy cigars but never pay more than eh, about $3 a cigar, the most expensive cigars i ever bought were about $5.50 and they retail for $14 so I didn't mind and one of my absolute favorites I get for about $0.70
I enjoy Scotch but never pay over $30 a bottle
I roast my own coffee, my setup cost about $60
I brew my own beer and after numerous batches my cost has levelled out to about $0.50 a bottle

I used to spend ~$100 every year on my computer but don't give a shit about graphics anymore, so no more expensive hobbies here.

Firearms add up quick, buying, collecting, maintaining. As well as all of the ammo, range fees, and extra equipment. Well worth it though.

Just started getting into SCUBA... got my open water cert earlier this summer, hoping to get some more certifications. It's going to cost me roughly $1500 for equipment during the next year.

Hobby #2 is by far the most expensive... I raise animals as a hobby. When you're going through a few hundred pounds of feed a week, that burns through a little bit of money, (minor to me, but compared to buying paintballs, a bit more expensive). On top of that, occasional vet calls (3 so far this year), medicines,... Not to mention, the up front cost of the animals themselves. We're trying to build our herd up to 25 does (fainting goat females) and already have sufficient herd sires. my hobby

I've read through the list and have done many of them myself.

Guns and shooting. 22's are cheap, but target practice with a .40 all day can be expensive.
Also AirSoft, which can be more expensive because its much easier to get than real guns. But charging a battery is very cheap and BB's are cheaper than bullets.

D&D for a little while. I didnt get into the 3rd Edition stuff. Books are too damn expensive. Also ShadowRun, Rifts, and a few books from most of the major systems. You really dont need to spend a lot of money on this hobby, but one or two key books can stimulate your imagination and make for some fun game nights.

Video Games, but I am one of those people who doesnt really consider TV, movies or VG to be a real hobby. More like a waste of brain cells and our already short, human lives. But it can be fun to burn brain cells once in a while.
Its possible to spend a ton of money on discs. I just try to purchase the movies and TV shows I really love and the handful of video games I know I'll beat. When I was a teen all my money went into NES and SuperNES. Kind of sorry about that now.

Used to solder before it was my job. Now I prefer to avoid it after work. Never spent too much money on that though.

EDIT:
I wish I was a better reader. I think I average one paperback a year. Regular books are cheap. And free if you have a local book swap.

My hobbies aren't anywhere near as bad as most of you... lol

I love my audio equipment for sure, enjoy working on cars, and biking. I don't have any one hobby that sucks away all my money though, it's balanced more over a couple different hobbies, audio equipment has had the biggest budget.

the cheapest bottle of single malt you can get under 30 are the Glenlivet and Glenfiddish... and that's only if they are on sale. What do you have?
