Ah ATOT. Full of self righteousness as usual. Never question anything that might take you outside of your own life or comfort zone.

Don't worry, society will let you out of your tiny little box when you die and put you in an even smaller box...maybe, if you're lucky, it will be made out of wood and not plastic.

Far too many people that expect far too much for doing for too little, or just simply have too high of expectations. That VAST majority of america >90% don't have problems finding modest work, saving a modest amount of money, and LIVING WITHIN THEIR MEANS.

This coming from a high school drop out earning ~ 52K, by himself, ~ 80K household income, with a child and a wife with just a high school education.

Too many people think they can or have the right to live in Manhattan (sp? fuck it), making 250K, drinking martinis every night.

That's great you have an education, but I guess that doesn't make you smart.

Great post. After I read a negative reply to your post, I had to immediately thank you for showing these whusses where to go. Perhaps it would be better to say where they could have gone with more forethought and determination. Your story is similar to my story and the story of all my friends. One of my sons took success much higher with only high school. The other took college and has started decently.

You must think ahead, work your butt off, and don't be discouraged when you've worked in the wrong direction for awhile. Just get back to the right direction. They could start now.

the majority of those broke asses look like, well, you guys. so just wondering if any of ya'll were out there. how was it?

I don't know about you, but I'm pulling nearly 7 figures, drive a Ferrari F430, and live in a mansion with supermodels. And I'm considered "poor" on ATOT. That must make you an insignificant blip.

Great post.

You are also making more than 2x the average US household which is a great accomplishment.

Let me guess, you actually worked hard to get where you are and didn't expect things to be handed to you on a silver platter.

This.

What really pisses me off about this whole thing is the reaction from the right. Someone on the left protests, they are called a jobless hippie sucking off government tit. A conservative protests and suddenly it's all fucking patriotic and shit. Fuck that.

it's the job of a business owner to identify areas of growth/high demand, not government.

time to get out of the $499 Designer Widgets business and get into the $49 Budget Widget business (unless your name is Apple)

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
You've convinced me! Our economy is NOT in the shitter!

Have you seen what these people are protesting?
http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/

Have you seen the list of their demands?
http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed-list-of-demands-for-occupy-wall-st-moveme/

The vast majority of these people simply over extended themselves and it is now the fault of Wall Street. Wall Street didn't make these people take out 100k in student loans to get a degree in Art History - which is essentially a waste of 100k.

The other thing I find laughable about the people on the tumblr site is the ones who are in big debt and take pictures on their expensive smart phones, computers, digital cameras, ect. and then upload it. (Hint: if you are in debt get ride of the luxury items.)

tumblr_lsi6frbw4e1r25y9y

Then you have people like this. Seems like the system *is* working for her.

tumblr_lsi91cladO1r25y9yo1_500.jpg

Oh no! This one has to work and live with their mom. Oh the humanity.

tumblr_lsgh9gjex61r25y9yo1_1280.jpg

Oh no! This one lives with mom. Better bring the system down.

tumblr_lsglwuu3jY1r25y9yo1_500.jpg

This is the problem with the current generation.

And you're fucking wrong. Our low aggregate demand is CLOSING DOWN SMALL BUSINESSES.

what I'm saying is, ONE SMALL BUSINESS CLOSES DOWN, ANOTHER ONE OPENS UP

DOES THE CAPS HELP?!

business is BOOMING for one of my clients - why? Cuz his target market is people trying to save a bunch of monies. He's no longer targeting the $499 Widget buyers, he's targeting the $49 ebay closeout buyers.

failure to identify trends and acting on them is not the governments fault, and sitting on the grass protesting isn't going to help. go the fuck back home, read some books, find some fucking opportunities.

And an economy filled with people too poor or scared to purchase goods and services leads to more small businesses closing than opening.

Not really sure how someone goes into 210k in debt to send 2 kids to college.

Average cost of community college is $2361 per year or under 5k for 2 years.
Lets add another 2k for books and what not and say 7k for an AA.
http://www.costhelper.com/cost/education/community-college.html

Average cost of a public university is 7,605. per year or about 15k for 2 years.
Lets add another 2k for books and what not and say $17,000 for a BA from that AA.
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/pay/add-it-up/4494.html

People shouldn't be paying 100,000 to go to college if they cannot afford the debt. They could easily use the public system and get a college education for under $25,000.

Seems like a lot of people are making poor decisions and are taking it out on Wall Street because they are an easy target.

Thanks for the non sequitur.

But yeah, fuck these American citizens for protesting for a more equal distribution of wealth that could put our economy on a more stable footing. I mean, they should all just start eBay businesses and somehow grow the economy in a time of barely existent aggregate demand.

ironic because sales/demand on eBay is picking up due to the bad economy.

The value of merchandise sold on eBay Inc.’s U.S. marketplace increased 14.4% year over year in the second quarter ended June 30, eBay reported today. Global marketplace sales increased 17.2%, with sales outside the U.S. growing by 18.9%. The company’s Q2 revenue rose 24.3%.

For the second quarter ended June 30, eBay reported:

• The value of goods sold to U.S. consumers through eBay’s online marketplaces, excluding autos, increased 14.4% to $5.49 billion in Q2 from $4.80 billion in the same period a year ago. Global marketplace sales grew 17.2% to $14.68 billion from $12.53 billion in the same quarter last year. 74% of marketplace revenue was from outside the U.S.

• Fixed-price sales represented 62% of marketplace volume compared with 59% a year earlier, reflecting eBay’s shift away from the auction format as more large and midsized retailers use eBay as a sales platform, selling merchandise for a fixed price.

• Active users of eBay’s marketplaces totaled 97.2 million, up 5.9% from 91.8 million a year earlier. (Active users are those who have listed or bought on eBay in the previous 12 months.)

Opportunities are there, but you won't find them walking around wall street.

No, it's not ironic. Want irony? "I'm quite surprised that you don't know the definition of irony."

LOL You're still going on about ebay as if it proves whatever point you're trying to make. Wall St. destroyed our economy and you blame the people who were fucked over because you're too busy "looking at your corporate pay stub"

Ya, but that takes initiative, taking a risk, and personal responsibility, something these people lack.

preslove, you want a bigger more overreaching government, so small business can flourish? LOL, big government has been the death of small business and always will be the death of small business. Hell just look at China. Small business are being pushed aside for big private and government funded business. lols. Government has over regulated environmental as well as occupational hazards to the point it is to expensive for a small business to operate here. They just can't, only big business can survive the ever rising costs of regulation, just the way they like it.

Really? Then why are there so many empty retail and industrial properties across the nation?

Your "argument" is so full of complete and utter fail it's not even amusing.

opening up a new small business =/= opening up a retail shop in a mall

those are the dead opportunities I'm talking about.

anyway I'm over this thread. Those people can continue protesting, I don't give a fuck. I'll stay at home, collaborate with my entrepreneur buddies, and think of new opportunities. TRYING to become a corporate overlord instead of just bitching about how they're fucking me.
