This is so sad. 21 years old...cut down in his prime. He hadn't yet lived life.

And thankfully hadn't yet reproduced either. DrPizza said it best (though there were a few other choice comments in this thread).

This guy was another wannabe-gansta trying to "live the lifestyle." You get what you play for, buddy.

His appearance? TOTAL and complete TRASH. I'd find an excuse to not let him into my place of business. Just to cut the legs out from the liberal crowd: If a white guy walked in looking like that (Kid Rock, anyone?) I'd lock the damn door in his face too. All money is green but that kind of money is not welcome in my store. Take your cornrows and your sideways baseball cap and go back to the rats-nest you came from.

"Oh, but maybe he's an astrophysicist!!!" Yeah, well maybe he is. But intelligence doesn't equate to common sense. If you have any common sense you'd realize that looking like that doesn't go over well anywhere outside Da'Hood'yo.

Two men walk up to the security checkpoint at the airport. One looks and dresses like Dolla, one has Dockers and a button-up shirt on and is clean-cut. Guess who's getting detainied? Right.

Unfortunately, these rappers serve as role models. The image they project is a negative one. The image they project has profound negative effects on a portion of our society. We're better off without them. Good riddance.[/quote]

You summed it up perfectly DrPizza.

uh, because darwin awards are for people who harm themself, not people getting shot at an upscale mall while waiting at the valet for their car.

You clearly will not get the point that his lifestyle has the potential to harm himself, just like jumping off a 3-story roof. His lifestyle glorifies gang violence and murder. Let's sample some of his lyrics:

Maybe someone decided to shoot first and ask questions later. With a fo fo mag.

oh so now every song lyric represents the exact actions of the singer at hand?

i didn't realize that was a rule, my bad...

The difference is that there's an entire culture that takes these lyrics as a guide on how to live your life. Singing about it and (at least creating a persona that purports) to be a part of it is tempting fate, period.

That's bullshit, the majority of people who would have bought Dollas album would be RICH white kids, they would not take his lyrics as a guide how to live their life. The majority of them would be too scared to even actually step foot in a ghetto area. And the ones who already live there, they don't need any guide on how to live. I live in the ghetto and the more people listen to R&B or oldies than Rap by a pretty large number. Billy from Beverly Hills listens to a dude like Dolla for entertainment, nothing else.

Rappers make MUSIC, is the dude who plays Tony Soprano a bad influence for people who watch the Sopranos? I don't know why hate is typically directed only at Rappers.

As for using the lyrics as a handbook, it could be argued it's more of a self-feeding cycle. At worst, the lyrics do serve to glorify and reinforce the culture.

On your stereotyping, thanks. We get it - you live in the ghetto, so the rest of us Beverly Hills white folk can't possibly have anything intelligent to say on the subject of a violent subculture or crappy music.

Your analogy to the Sopranos is severely flawed. That actor stops being Tony Soprano the second he leaves the set - not typically so with the average gangster rapper; their persona often doesn't end when they leave the recording studio.

He is a performer first.

Also in the USA I didn't know your style of dress dictated you were a criminal.

Drugs and violence? Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, etc......should this guys been shot?

How many gangster rappers do you know to make the claim when they leave the studio they keep on with the persona. I bet it's zero, sorry but you don't know shit about the average gangster rapper. And I don't like gangster rap, but come on you're speaking out of your ass. I know a couple but I can't use them as examples for how all gangster rappers act outside of the studio. Please share with me your great insight into something you hate, your dislike of it couldn't possibly effect your thinking and lead you to pass judgment.

Good riddance to those that think a 21 year old is a role model.

Based on his wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolla_(rapper) , he has been more gainfully and legally employed since about 15 years old than most here.

This death wish is one because he is black and performs a certain kind of music.

Anyone have PROOF this guy was anything but going by the book in his life?

A real funny analogy would be how many white rock bands have trashed hotels and other property compared to rappers having parties.

He was black and rapped about violent shit, a double negative when it comes to ATOTers. Truth be told outside of his lyrics he wasn't into anything. I didn't know him, but some Googling turned up info a person who didn't live what he talked about. So basically he was the rap equevent of Al Pachino playing the character Scarface. There's not even any info that suggests outside of the studio he acted like a thug. People want to bold one bar for one of his songs

"First one to blast
Ask questions later
Fo Fo mag"

Johnny Cash said "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die" he was considered an American icon. For the record Dolla was a model and businessman who was making totally legit money. Find me a story where he was acting like a thug during an interview or outside of the recording studio. you won't be able to because his rapping was a PERSONA.

Meanwhile Kiefer Sutherland can get DUIs and go around beating the shit out of people and somehow still be held in higher regards than a lot of musicians who makes SONGS. I love America and the people in it. Keifer is a much worse role model than a majority of gangster rappers. I would rather my son or daughter listen to somebody who tells stories on songs over a dude who headbutts people, gets DUI's and never makes apologies for acting like a douche bag in public. Real person's actions > persona any day of the week for which is worse.

QFT...most are quick to bash the black rapper out of fear and racism.

I like heavy metal more than anything, but it's some funny ass shit to see a grown man at a high end venue cower and move aside as some 'rapper looking' dudes walk by.

Let's kill everything we fear! yeah!

Ah - I see. He was just a misunderstood artiste.

Here are the lyrics from one of his gems, "I'm Fucked Up":

Lyrics to I'm Fucked Up :
Eh, ay yuh, shit
Um, I'm runnin' for president, um
I need you to vote for me

I got a cup full of drink, table full of women
Money in the hand and the room keeps spinnin'
Body keeps sweatin', one two steppin'
Eyes hella low but I like this feelin'
I'm fucked up, I'm fucked up

My wrist shinin', 'cause I stay grindin'
I'm the man of the future
I got white diamonds, red diamonds
Shit I even got fuschia
She winked at me, so I winked back
Where the waitress at, let's get it in motion
Yeah I got the potion I thought you should know
Bitch on my arm like Marilyn Monroe
And she like bitches so I like her
Playin' with the kitty and it ain't got fur
We need drinks, right now, not later
Straight shots, fuck chasers
Grey Goose and Patron, now I'm gone
Every song is now my song
Nothing's wrong, I'm just faded
Turn that up, that's my favorite

I got a cup full of drink, table full of women
Money in the hand and the room keeps spinnin'
Body keeps sweatin', one two steppin'
Eyes hella low but I like this feelin'
I'm fucked up, I'm fucked up

And these girls keep starin', and my eyes keep winkin'
Honey's in the head 'cause a awesome dude ain't thinkin'
Talkin' with a slur but a awesome dude still drinkin'
Spilt on my shoes, damn they're European
What you say, what you lookin' like
What you turkin' with
Turn around, let me see it, can you turn a bit
Can you tell me baby thought of that back
Come fuck a young awesome dude that rap
Hold on what's next, let's flex, no test
I must have sex, let's try it
Let's talk for a little bit
Fuck that let's fuck for a little bit
And that's that

I got a cup full of drink, table full of women
Money in the hand and the room keeps spinnin'
Body keeps sweatin', one two steppin'
Eyes hella low but I like this feelin'
I'm fucked up, I'm fucked up

I said, weeee should have some drinks
Tell meeeee, what you think
Maybeeeee, we can go
Back, to my home

I got a cup full of drink, table full of women
Money in the hand and the room keeps spinnin'
Body keeps sweatin', one two steppin'
Eyes hella low but I like this feelin'
I'm fucked up, I'm fucked up

10 bottles on the wall (on the wall)
If one bottle falls
I dunno, somethin' on the wall

And another standout, "Who the Fuck Is That?":

Lyrics to Who The Fuck Is That? :

[Chorus]

[Verse 3: Dolla]

Don Vito Corleone did you even bother to read the lyrics? While not profound, there's not anything that would point to him being a "gangster" of any sort. One line he even said he didn't want to fight, he wanted to find a woman to have sex with. I bet you'd still say he deserved to be shot, or was asking for it due to his lyrics. Never mind they're not about anything other than a dude bragging about his money, how much he drinks and getting pussy. Lame lyrics, but hardly hardcore.

C) Take it into the airport with you, you might need it on the flight home

Dumbass.

the news media will jump all over this as being gang related and the paint the victim as a gangsta rapper. Hell when Jam Master Jay from RUN DMC died I remember 3 different news stations out here reporting "gangsta rapper shot and killed" JMJ wasn't as far from being a gangsta as anyone on here. And he wasn't even a rapper to boot, lol. The bias the media shows towards rap makes me sick to my stomach.
