I read on another message board that the Cayman Is. just had a 6.1 magnitude earthquake. The Cayman Is. are currently in the path of Hurricane Ivan. What the f....?

Edit: It's true 6.1 earthquake in the Cayman Islands which is the path of this monster hurricane. Damn.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.

Good luck to everyone in FL. Here's to hoping Ivan just goes away!

Yeah, I was here in Auburn for Opal....it sucked even this far inland. I've got a bad feeling about this hurricane hitting the FL Panhandle and the just tearing north.

Good luck to the folks wherever this hits.

Agreed. Every state gets affected by one form or another - whether it be flooding if rivers flood, extreme snowstoms in the winter or tornados on the prairie. There is no state 100% safe from any natural disaster. If any such person thinks so, they need to think again.

Have some compassion, folks.

at least toxic waste dumps and gang shootouts are avoidable.

I read a report some time ago that the number of atlantic hurricanes in a given season is an idicator of how many snow storms will hit the north east the following winter. Guess i should invest in a plow blade for my 4wheeler.

really, atleast floridians can get away from a hurricane. what about the 35million people in california with whom some build their structures over fault lines. You get no warning when an earthquake hits.

But they knew that the fault structure was there.

Damn!

I feel like I am running in front of a freight train and playing chicken.

My cruise leaves Tampa on Sunday at 4PM.

According to the forecast, I'm just barely squeeking by.

And there is no where to run afterwards. IF it does not turn further north, it will be sitting in the center of the Gulf.

Enjoy Tampa

Tell me about it.

If they cancel the ship then I'm stuck in Tampa but have the hotel room for only one day. What happens then? I doubt there will be any flights out. Looks like I might possibly be spending my vacation in a Red Cross shelter.

Down to 150mph in the latest advisory. So at least some good news, however a Florida landfall becoming more and more likely.

All those computer models were wrong! I consulted my ass and came up with this forecast. Keep in mind that I did use the full entirety of my ass to confirm the future. So, results are guaranteed.

Cuba, you are screwed. Canada, I would start evacuating in about a year or so. Go to France, btw.. not the US.

I have one more point for those who have been non-compassionate for those who live in Florida because of these Hurricanes. As a result of the Hurricanes as they move up the East coast, they tend to create tornados. Frances has spawned somewhere around 90 tornados already - most of which affected other states besides Florida.

Hurricanes do more damage to the United States beyond just Florida alone. It's just unfortunate that most of the damage happens when landfall happens ... and when the hurricane drags its heels when crossing a state. But, it doesn't stop there.

They are also benificial in that they drag moisture into areas where there has been droughts during the summer.

Helps to rejuvinate the land for fall planting.

Tell me about it Look at what it did to NYC.

Unfortunately, for you Floridians, all you can do is wait and pray for the best. Good luck.

They say this is just fluctuation, not something persistent. Looks like it may build back to a category 5. I hope it drops to a drizzle and moves elsewhere. People in Florida need a break from these storms.

Good luck guys. Even though I hate the Canes and Gators with a passion. Ooops forgot about hating the Seminoles as well. :D

Tenth in the series
Map looks like Canada that would be a target if it becomes a problem.

Weather service does not seem to be concerned about this one.

THE DEPRESSION CONTINUES AS A LOW-CLOUD SWIRL...INCREASINGLY REMOVED
FROM THE DEEP CONVECTION NOW OVER 200 NM AWAY AND SPREADING OVER
THE AZORES. SINCE THE LOW LACKS THE CONVECTION REQUIRED OF A
TROPICAL CYCLONE...ADVISORIES ARE BEING DISCONTINUED AT THIS TIME.
SHIP REPORTS SUGGEST THAT MAXIMUM WINDS IN THE VICINITY OF THE
SWIRL ARE NO MORE THAN 25 KT...ALTHOUGH SLIGHTLY STRONGER WINDS MAY
EXIST IN THE NORTHERLY FLOW A FEW HUNDRED MILES TO THE WEST OF THE
CENTER. THE WEAK REMNANT LOW-LEVEL CIRCULATION SHOULD GRADUALLY
SPIN DOWN OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS OVER SUB 26C WATER.
