Only hit the rev limiter in 6th when I was drafting in the first couple laps of the race. Had I set top speed to 180mph.. I don't think I'd have finished the race without getting lapped. lol!

And what were your downforce levels? I was +10 (from minimum) on both front and rear.

30/55 I believe. Or 30/50.. I'll have to play around with it.

I think mine was 25/35. The rear wing has the biggest impact on top speed I think.

For all others, I'm going to create a room for practice on the Tokyo track on Wednesday starting at 8pm CST. It will just be a free run, no race. Come join if you want.

If I'm around, I'll probably join in. Would be nice to know where I'm at and what I need to improve on for that track.

Well...... we are halfway through the "series". :) All in all, I'm very happy with the way it is going. We have had some very good racing and it has been very clean, at least compared to a lot of the other online racing I've been involved in. There has been some bumping and crashing, but that is inevitable, and I have yet to see anything that looks remotely intentional.

I save the replay of each race and run them from different drivers views after each race, it's amazing how a percieved "incident" looks totally different on reply than you remember it in the race. In the last race, I felt I had been bumped off track once, only to see in the replay that the incident causing me to go off track was my own fault :sneaky: I also saw that I took GTP_Ride out at one point (sorry guy, it was NOT intentional).

There is one issue that I would like to figure out how to address; that is with people joining the room while we are running hot laps that are not in our group. Now we are just booting them out prior to starting the race, this works, but has some drawbacks. For one, the host has to retire from the track to do the booting, this removes any fast time they have set in qualifying, also, it's too easy to boot someone that should be left in. If anyone has a solution to this, post up! The only thing I can think of is for whoever is hosting to have the race in his private lounge, this would eliminate the problem, but everyone in our group would have to be on the hosts friends list. Anyway.... think about and if you have any ideas, let us know. :)

unintentional bumping just happens. You thinkt he other guy is gonna brake later and he brakes early and uh o. For the most part though its been fine in my mind. The only other option really is to run with penalties turned on and i hate to do that cause it punishes you for simple things like going in the grass to avoid causing an accident.

As for the hot laps stuff. I think i have like 8 or 9 of the people on my friends list at this point anyways. I suck compare to most of you (like 4-5 seconds off your laptimes it seems) so im not to worried about lap times to be honest. So it wasnt a big deal for me to sit out in the lobby and just start from the back (where id be anyways). I've just been more paranoid over accidentally kicking someone i shouldnt but i do just look over the names on the first page. its when someone joins and actually has a gt300 car that i worry :)

What are your top speeds on the main straight for Tokyo? I'm topping at around 152 no matter what I do it seems.

Mine are about the same, I seem to have the top speed problem as well. I did play with some settings that seemed to have helped a little..... we'll see I guess :)

I'm getting about the same top speed. For some reason the wing settings don't make much of a difference do they?

hey boshunter sorry if i cut you off or anything on that last two laps or whatever that i was with you. You were close then had to drop back a bit so i think i braked when you didnt.

And shrugging sorry i got in your way going into the turn before the straight! I hit the wall and you bumped me so sorry!

And nice racing with you those first like 6 laps gtpride.Think we bumped on the first corner so sorry about that! otherwise i just tried to keep space for you since we were side by side

Good race guys. Had a great battle with Atlas swapping places for half the race. Thank goodness he pitted lol! :)

My front tires were shot by the end of the race..was losing 2-3secs per lap over my fastest (1:41 something).

Yeah nice side by side for a couple of laps. :) I went inside at the last turn but I guess you didn't see me... you didn't have to let me by though lol. I know you were giving a lot of room and thanks for that but I wanted to stay away from people after the last race.

boshuter you should take my points off from monza because i ran the car like i did today in free run. i put upgrades on it after patch 1.06 since i wanted to use the car online for other races. i thought limiting the engine down to how it was after break in and oil change before the patch would be the same since i was running more or less the same times on it and nobody said anything in the last race. i bought a new car now but sorry guys. :\

Congrats again thilan, yes we had an awesome battle for the first 9 laps. I'm watching the replay now and it's almost as much fun as when I was behind the wheel!

My front tires were getting bad wear approaching half distance so I decided to pit...no way was I going to be able to fight with you on the last lap with shot tires, I thought. Obviously I had no idea how your tire wear was...now watching the replay I can clearly see they were definitely in better shape. Not by much but it would've made a huge difference on the last lap. So in the end it didn't really matter, instead of winning by a few secs you won by 27 sec.

Anyway it looks like the RX7 is quite a bit easier on tires unless of course you're using the DS3 controller which doesn't allow tire scrubbing and gives you much longer tire life...

Looks like tire wear is going to be a problem for me in every race, unfortunately... I will post results as soon as the replay is finshed.

Well i knew you were behind me but started losing traction and ended up coming inside a bit more than i planned and well you were there. Figured i'd just wait and race with ya instead of being by myself but in hindsight you would have caught up after a few laps anyways. Hit the rev limiter a couple times on the straight drafting behind you too. Then of course i wasnt paying attention and took that sharp corner after the straight to fast and you were gone :)

What? Is that true? I'm using a DS3 but I had no idea. I mean I don't have a choice right now anyway since my wheel doesn't work anymore, but what do you mean it doesn't "allow" tire scrubbing? What exactly does it do then?

Yes it is true...I didn't know about it until I drove in a 40 lap GT500 race around Fuji...there were some REALLY good guys in that race, I got lapped. We discussed this tire wear issue after the race and the race winner admitted he switched from the DFGT steering wheel to the DS3 just for that reason. That allowed him to pit only once while most others had to pit 2-3 times.

It is a built in feature. IMO Polyphony Digital really screwed this up but the way it works is the DS3 doesn't allow the front tires to turn past the physical limit of grip, whereas the steering wheel does, causing more tire wear due to tire scrubbing. You can clearly see the difference when you take an open wheel car (F1) on a track and sharply turn at high speed. THIS GIVES DS3 controllers A HUGE ADVANTAGE over steering wheels in ENDURANCE RACES.

Fortunately with the 1.07 update we can disable tire wear in online races.

I propose that from the next race we run with TIRE WEAR DISABLED. Please vote by copy'n pasting the table below:

TIRE WEAR DISABLED

TIRE WEAR ENABLED

Great race guys  Me and divinciload ran side by side and back and forth for the first 9 laps, of course that meant we were running laps in the 1:47s and 1:48s instead of 1:42s so the first two cars just pulled away from us.

As for tire wear..... we are not going to run with tire wear disabled. It may or may not be an advantage to use a DS3 in an endurance race...... but we are not running endurace races. The races we run can easily be run without pitting, on soft tires. How you drive has a lot more to do with tire wear than what you are using to drive (wheel or DS3). If you run as hard as possible and like to break late going into corners, you are going to wear out tires. You can get the same lap times by changing the way you drive and your tire won't go away in 5-10 laps.

I practice with a guy that uses a DS3 and I use a wheel. I used to be at least a second or two faster than him on any track and my tires would be fresh and his would be wore out. I convinced him to start braking earlier and his tire wear problems dissapeard and he now runs within a tenths of a second of what I can run, sometimes faster. Nothing annoys me more than someone that I can run a lot faster laps than, hitting me in the rear on every corner because they feel they need to wait til the last second to brake then slam them on as hard as they can to "maybe" make it around the corner. There is a good reason some of the license tests "try" to teach that "slow in, fast out" is the best way to take a turn. ;)

Here's a link documenting tire DS3 controller tire advantage:
http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=180266&page=2

Another solution to the problem is to require 1 mandatory pit stop which may be better than running with no tire wear. But with the distance we run and no pitstop requirements everyone with the DFGT will continue to have a handicap. It just takes away from the fun... I was having an epic battle with thilan, easily had the pace to run with him for maybe 12-14 laps, just not for 18 laps due to the DF3 vs DFGT scrubbing issue.

boshutter, just watch the replay and compare thilan's tirewear to yours or mine. You will clearly see the difference.
