I need to find some cheap 16GB DDR4 since Amazon is taking forever.

What do you consider cheap? What speeds and cas are you looking for?

Applied BIOS 0511 without issue in BIOS EZFlash and restored to previous settings for DDR, all seems to be fine.

• My OCZ RD400 NVMe was failing to detect on 100% of reboots, required cold boot before. On BIOS 0511 it is so far detecting on 100% of restart. Great!
• My F4-3200C16D-16GTZB has no change. Posting at 16-18-18-35 1.35v @ 2933 fine still. Failed to post at 3200. Happy for now.
• Seems to post and respond faster, more reliably. Merely perception though.

Yeah no major changes noted here, either. I guess it contains the new AGESA code so it fixes the FMA crashes, so that's good.
Other than that the Prime was already surprisingly stable despite the outdated BIOS version so I wasn't expecting any big changes.

Well, the one have on backordered for $79.90 is the Avexir Core Series 16GB DDR4 2400 Desktop Memory Module (AVD4UZ124001608G-2COR)

• Speed: DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200)

• Cas Latency: 16

• Voltage: 1.2V

So preferably not worse than that.

The only expensive ones in that list are the the Mobo and the 1700X. You have to cut one.
Why did you choose such an expensive Mobo?
won't B350 be good enough? USD 125
Take 1700, you don't need CPU cooler and then fix it at 3400 MHz.
You might want to switch that RAM for a better one instead, right? You want the lights?

I also have same issue. I planned less than € 1200 but much greater damage was done

I have Trident Z RGB kit also, default is a random rainbow pattern, but there is software available however these kits are fragile on AM4 and die easily (mostly on DRAM OC), one guy left settings at stock and everything was fine but as soon as he used RGB software next reboot one module was dead as a doornail.

I noticed in my MSI X370 Titanium that even with DRAM voltage set to 1.28V it spikes to 1.31V and DRAM is rated for 1.35... I could imagine setting it to 1.35 the spikes would be much higher and could be the reason for modules kicking the bucket. Might have something to do with the LEDs as it seems to be mostly isolated to the RGB kits.

I have mine (3200 CAS 16) set to stock clocks (2129) and MANUALLY set Voltage to 1.28V (1.2V Nominal). So far so good, waiting for BIOS to mature before pushing clocks and voltage or playing with RGB software.

One of the biggest problem with clocking DDR4 kits to their advertised values right now on AM4 is that everyone is stuck at 1T command rate and every kit's rated specs are for 2T, so 1T is already pushing it, compounding things is most BIOSes having limited timing options to tweak.

It's not that I need or even want an X370 motherboard, but it just seems that the motherboard manufacturers spend their time fixing bugs on their high end X370 motherboards in ways they don't for their cheaper offerings.

The problem with the Ryzen 7 1700 is that once I overclocked it to 3.4 GHZ, I would loose Turbo.

I do plan to get better CPU cooler and memory later. DDR4 prices are a little... well... crazy right now.

Oh well. I guess I will be eating oatmeal for a week to make up for being $25 over budget. 😱

I'm using the beta RGB program from G.Skill and it seems to be solid so far. So far as playing with the system I can say I've played WoW and I'm starting on ME: Andromeda now and it plays things very well. It's not as fast as my Intel rig, but I like to play with new tech and this Ryzen is a lot of fun so far.

If you're on a budget and don't mind overclocking, a R7 1700 is definitely a valid option.

Here's what mine just did at 1.38V (I could probably go lower):

That's 4GHz on a $79.99 B350 mATX motherboard which won't let me go above 1.40V anyways (probably because VRM components are... underwhelming) 😛

Now for a cooler review. I bought a Thermaltake Contac Silent 12 CPU cooler out of curiosity to see if a low-end AM4-advertised cooler using the clip-mount was worth the $24.99 price of admission.

I'd say it's tolerable, if you run at stock. I'd get temps maxing out around 58C benchmarking my 1800X. Throw anything north of 1.4V at it and you hit its limits, however. I was hitting 79C with a 25C ambient at 4.05GHz.

Clip mounting still sucks as much as I remember it does. Removing it is a pain as well.

tl;dr save your pennies for a nicer cooler if you want to OC on air.

Any clue how much better it is than what ships with the 1700, just curious.

Judging by the weight, polish, size, and # of heatpipes I'd say it's comparable to a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ or EVO. Which isn't terrible. But is likely barely better than the Spire.

Edit: TT Contac weighs at least 50% more than Spire. Spire weighed in at 416g with fan for me.

So that TT Contac is not bad for the price for folks that want better temps at stock and could be fine for 4C SKUs at 1.35V OC.

AMD nailed the MSRP for these processors. Not just for the $/perf, but also because of exchange rates. I can buy a 1700 here for the same price as an 1800X in US, and OC close enough to the same.
