I just had my PC crash with a hard hang that would not even respond to holding down the power button for 10 seconds.
Specs? It's not an OS issue if the power button isn't even working because that's controlled by the UEFI firmware or BIOS. There's something else going on. Maybe a very dusty system or some insects have started calling your PC mobo a home. It could also be related to a bad PSU.

My case has dust filters and it's pretty much spotless inside. I have a EVGA Gold 750W power supply and a 5700x with an AIO. People have a hard time accepting there is software eg. OS and there is hardware. The bios is the least of my concerns even though I always have the most recent bios.

Nobody wants to consider Microsoft keeps rolling out major updates and something is bound to go wrong. But don't worry, they always fix it eventually. Windows 11 has had some issues even a complete clean reinstall of Windows 11 cannot always fix.

Messing around with a 3700X the last couple of weeks has reinforced what a big step up Zen 3 3D was for the platform. My main CPU was a 3600. When I transitioned to Zen 3 5600X, games I played weren't pushing the CPU enough to have that wow factor. Going from Zen2 to 3D now is a much more stark contrast.

It's a shame the 3Ds, outside of maybe that 5500X3D model, are no longer being produced and the prices are insane. They still have a lot of juice in them. I have no issues in Space Marine 2 with a 5600X3D.

Microsoft can and does break a lot of things but as Igor said long pressing the power button should bypass the OS entirely and hard shutdown the PC.

My biggest problem with my 5800x3d is that I can't justify upgrading from it!
I really want to move on from my x470 mb but, performance wise, it's a champ!

Be interesting to see what the market share of x3d CPUs are broken down against similar level CPUs. It's hard to think of many reasons not to get one if you're into gaming or enthusiast level stuff and you aren't doing a drop in replacement.

I swapped the 3700X with my kid for one of my 5800X3Ds. I let my wife use the other for a daily driver where it is completely wasted. I think I am swapping in the 3700X and taking it back soon.

See if I upgrade my old system will go to my wife.
I can't make my old system do office work! I'd have to sneak in there all the time and play something on it!

And she would absolutely kick my arse for doing that!

@WelshBloke

Aussie Steve with a timely revisit of the 5800X3D. You'd have to buy a GPU faster than a 5080 for a platform upgrade to make sense.

I would have liked for the test suite to have been Space Marine 2, Spiderman, Hogwarts, and Liberty City in the CPU heavy section Daniel-San tests. And add RT to increase the CPU load.

End of the road for AM4 X3D CPUs.

What about the 5500 x3d ?

Very bad idea to waste a V-cache on a 6C CPU, instead they should release a 5750X3D with 4.3GHz boost, i mean, they downgraded the 5800X3D down to the 5700X3D and now they are degrading the AM4 X3D CPUs even further.

AMD has released the 5600X3D, 7600X3D and supposedly will be releasing the 9600X3D, so the 6 core 3D cache processors are already a thing.

Okay. But 6 core 3D cache CPUs are and have been produced - wasted or not, which was the point, wasn't it? It was my point, anyway.
I didnt say that the were not produced, my point is that they re not as sellable as 8C, in Germany FI the 7800X3D sold much more than the 7600X3D excepted for july, and even more for the 5700X3D vs 5600X3D.

Really unfortunate, but it seems to purposefully coincidence with the DDR4 price hiking this summer. At some point or another AM4 just won't be feasible anymore since some component gets out of the line pricing wise.

Yes, at some point. Maybe when Zen 6 gets here? ⌚

I think AM4 going strong to this day, is the result of the GPU market more than anything else. Most low budget gamers are buying cards Zen 3 can drive. The Ryzen 5500 is stupid popular and has been since the holidays last year. PCIe 3 and 16MB L3 are not deterring sales at $72. Having messed with one, it's also a decent overclocker with minimal effort.

If the first thought someone has is that it's AM4 owners upgrading from older Zen, it mostly isn't. I'll provide a SS below; the top selling board right now is B550, and there are 3 AM4 boards in the top 10. It's like this every time I post about it; month after month.

I thought the end of readily available and fairly priced 3Ds would kill it off. The last hurrah was the tray 5700X3D on AliExpress being like a $115 after coupon. Nope. Now the thought is DDR4 pricing will kill it off. Prices already suck but 5000 series builds are still popular. It probably shouldn't be. Hell, reviewers have been telling their audiences to stop buying it since last year. But the legend won't die 💪

Check this out; They're buying the ram kits even though they cost almost as much as CL 36 6000.

$72 for a 6 core, 12 thread CPU. Anyone care to guess what the first 6 core, 12 thread CPU cost me in like 2009?
I paid I think $100 for my i3-2100 just before the launch of Ivy Bridge and got an expensive $215 Z77 mobo and 32GB RAM for $300. I think it lasted me more than 5 years with most of the time not using it because I was playing games on PS4 or Xbox One S or using my Haswell laptop. I did upgrade it to i7-3770 for about $125 but that didn't see much use either. In my entire life, the single personal desktop CPU that I spent the most waking hours with is the Coppermine Celeron 700 MHz. Such is life.
