I read the first four but then kind of lost interest. Then the rest were spoiled for me inadvertently, so now I'm just like 'whatever'.

I've read all the books. Some multiple times. I don't care for all the movies, though.

I had to read the first in 7th grade, I hardly remember anything but I do remember thinking it was kinda meh. But, I do plan on seeing all the movies once they finish the last one.

I did the audiobook versions. Those were excellently done. It was kind of funny to hear the adult actors in the movies use the same character voices as the audiobook narrator.

Both are stand outs within their genre.

The books are our generations equivalent of Narnia and will be read for generations. The movies series is probably one of the greatest accomplishments in movie history. A series of 8 movies staring the same cast, filmed over a 9 year period and telling one complete story. There is nothing else like it in movie history.

Same cast? Didn't the original dumbledore die? =P

But seriously, yes it's quite the accomplishment thinking about it that way.

Why do you equate reading all the books with enjoying them?

I read them all, but I can't deny series is pretty shitty. You aren't missing out on anything but braindead trash lit, OP.

Yeah, what an accomplishment, just like Friends, Seinfeld, and another billion TV shows

:p

Also, there are gonna be 8 movies, despite only 7 books?

He said there's nothing like it in MOVIE HISTORY. Don't bring TV into this, it's a completely different story.

There's supposedly so much in the last book that they don't want to cram it into 1 movie, so they're doing 2 movies on the last book to do it proper justice.

Are you seriously asking me what is better than Harry Potter? Really?

I was under the assumption that everyone considered Harry Potter to be literature for youngsters, not adults. And I therefore meant that there are better books the kids could read (Pratchett, Tolkein, almost any other book with actual character development and a lack of plotholes).

For you to ask for a better book in adult literature...

Do you think Harry Potter is really that top notch?

EDIT: Harry Potter is good filler reading for a kid around 8 or so.

to be fair the movies after the 3rd would have been 6+ hours long if they didn't make a change in that department :p

Read the books, seen the movies. Both are meh, but I don't regret. The books are good for bathroom reading; they don't require much thought so you can concentrate on your business.

Read all the books and saw all the movies. Enjoyed them all.

Can't really talk about it at home because the wife read the books and I made so much fun of her, then I picked up the first book and read it when I was looking for something to read. I got hooked and now if the wife catches me watching it on TV I get so much shit for dissing her.

I've enjoyed the movies. Certainly not the best movies I've ever seen, but fun to watch.

The closest I've ever come to actually reading one of the HP novels was in 2003 when our son was in Iraq. My wife was putting together a "CARE" package to send to him, and one of the many novels she sent was one of the first HP stories. I perused through part of the first chapter...it was ok, well written, but it seemed like a child's novel. (maybe ages 10-14)
It did open my eyes to HP, and I watched my first HP movie shortly after that. (when it came out on DVD)

All of the books were ridiculously addictive and fun to read. The movies turn it into a bad live-action kiddie show not fit for Saturday morning. The movies are popular because the books created their own cult to support them. :p
