am I the only one that hasn't read a single Harry Potter book?

Every time another movie or book has come out for this series it seems everybody goes batshit crazy over it. Most the people I know love the series, and are incredibly excited about the new movie.

Just curious how many ATers are like me, and haven't read a single HP book. I tried reading the first one way back when it first came out and didn't get very far before putting it away for being pretty boring. I've seen the first movie and parts of some others on TV, and they seemed decently entertaining but nothing that makes me understand what all the commotion is about.

The poll was just a quick afterthought, but if you have another option you want I can put it up there.

I enjoyed the books but don't care for the movies. I wouldn't say I loved them, though.

Never read the books, seen the first movie and bits of the second. I've no plans to read them, but I wouldn't close the door on it either.

I am not a pedohomo so I voted "I haven't read the books or seen the movies, and I don't plan to do either"

I haven't read one either. In 2005 I was going back to college and someone in class asked me what I thought about Character X going to Mount Z or whatever. When I said I had never read a Harry Potter book, it was like I punched Jesus and a puppy at the same time with those words.

neither, no plans to, but I'll probably end up watching one of the movies eventually.

Yes, because the only reason one might enjoy reading books with adolescent characters is because of unhealthy sexual fantasies. Thanks for enlightening us.

Huh, what makes then unhealthy? I didn't suggest you eat a cheeseburger and fries while molesting the tot.

Voted the last option. Never read a book, or watched a movie. Seems very silly to me to get all excited about such a thing, but whatever.

I thought the books were more entertaining than the movie.

If you're just not a fan of the genre, so be it. Just don't deprive yourself of a good time just to be different from the mainstream.

What exactly? The movies don't really seem all that great. Are the books mainly written for young readers?

Oh.and no - haven't, nor plans to, read any of the books.

I've not read the books but have given them as gifts.

I've not seen any of the movies but thoroughly enjoyed the skits on snl.

I'll do both eventually. It's something to look forward to.

I've seen all the movies so far, but haven't read the books. I plan on reading the books after the movie series is completed as they're invariably better. It was the same with Jurassic Park/Lost World, the Tolkien trilogy (even if the movies were great), The Golden Compass (so far), and Narnia (also, so far).

I had basically no interest, saw the third movie some boring summer and liked it ok. Then I read the books and mostly enjoyed them. Haven't watched the movies after the 4th one. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend reading the first two books, they're nothing special (and the movies don't leave out anything important). The third and fourth books are good, 5th is too long and drawn out, 6th was pretty good, and the 7th was ok (but I felt somewhat anti-climactic in a way). If you're into that stuff then by all means check it out, but if you're not then you're not going to be won over. I wouldn't worry that you're missing out on anything much. I think most people are blown away because its beyond the scope of their imaginations, the movies have actually bolstered the books because people then don't have to rely on their imagination to create the world/characters.

The writing is awful so no, I have not read the books. The movies are ok since the pace moves fairly quickly and the production is well done.

Only seen the movies, but I enjoy them. I don't have the patience to read the whole series.
