I've owned rifles, shotguns and handguns for 42 years - since I was 14 years old. I'm not afraid of them, I'm a longtime NRA member, hunter, target shooter and I believe we have the right to bear arms but if I see some guy I don't know walking down my street with an AR15 strapped to his chest then I'm going to call the police and I expect them check it out.

It's stunts like this that contribute to people wanting to ban guns.

Exactly. You would think that a sensible gun owner would understand with all the shootings, he is inciting public fear by carrying a weapon out like that.

Fear of an inanimate object is pretty silly. Do you walk into the kitchen and run from the knife drawer too?

He isn't inciting anything. Do you run from the cops too? Bad idea.

Just do what you are told, then take it up with the judge later.

This assumes, of course, that the judge, who plays on the same government team with the cop, won't be corrupt and automatically side with the cop.

Is there any good reason to go on believing this, considering the woeful state of the American "just us" system?

If I were in some fast food joint and some idiot showed up with a rifle slung on his back I would definitely be alarmed. Only a fool wouldn't be, as it is not normal behavior.

Really? Are you afraid he is going to turn and shoot you with it? If so, where does that fear come from? What has that person done that makes you think they are going to shoot you?

If that isn't what you are afraid of then what?

That person has a vastly greater potential to harm me than any other person in that restaurant and he can do so with almost no warning. Furthermore, his behavior is highly unusual, meaning I can be less confident in what his other actions might be. I can think of no rational reason that an average patron of that restaurant would believe that the ability to kill would be necessary for that transaction either.

I'm not afraid of him, but I'm definitely paying very close attention to such an individual.

And how about if the guy is wearing a government costume that says "police" on it?

This is the equivalent of running into a crowded movie theater and screaming fire. By doing this he is not expressing a second amendment right. He is instead abusing it to incite fear. He is an idiot and a poor fvcking excuse for a father.

Really? Because cops carry guns around all the time. Are you saying that every time a cop carries a gun around with him, he is effectively running into a crowded movie theater screaming fire?

That's interesting logic.

To compare an off duty police officer to this kind of nutt is a joke. And also, he had the camera because he knew someone would call the cops and he wanted to act like he was a bad ass. Sadly he looked like a fool and embarrassed his son all in one swoop.

Why, what's the difference? Why do you worship cops who carry guns around in public, but whine like an infant when private citizens do the same?

Liberals believe in magic uniforms much like Mormons believe in magic underwear.

Disregard that the master sergeant has been called unstable by some; he's an off duty soldier, an armed profession much like that of a police officer. Why is that so alarming? You trust soldiers in uniform, but not in civilian attire?

You are so stupid. We have had several mass shootings. No one knows who this guy is walking around with a rifle like that. Then this idiot of a father drags his son along. Anybody could have gotten spooked and pulled a gun on him thinking he was a threat. And there he is with his son in tow. His wife should stick her foot in his ass.

Like hell it is and like hell he isn't.

He didn't do anything to anyone. He inflicted no harm on anyone or attempted to inflict any harm on anyone. He IS expressing his second amendment right in accordance with his local laws.

I wish this would have happened here in Iowa. Would have been a completely different outcome as the police here respect the law.

I have walked around many times just as this man has with either my AR, a pistol on my hip, or my shotgun. I have never been accosted by police and I have never had anyone even look at me cross for doing so. Perhaps people here are more aware of the law in this state and respect it as such.

Walking around with a rifle, where legal and non threatening, is pretty much the epitome of expressing your second amendment right. You don't like it, please feel free to gather 2/3 of the states to change it.

Why do you assume that he is going to start shooting people at random and in mass? How is that your initial reaction to a person with a rifle?

You think someone else gets spooked and pulls a gun on a person that they know, without a doubt, is already armed? Are you that fucking stupid? This isn't the wild west as much as you would like to think it is.

Are you that fucking paranoid? Perhaps its time to stop watching so much television. The chances of you encountering a random person walking around with a rifle that is about to start killing in mass is extremely low.

If it was an ancient wood stocked bolt action rifle the cops wouldn't care. It is an AR, so of course they are going to have a cow. I REALLY don't think he needed the rifle on this hike, however it was entirely legal. If the constitution allows this man to hike with the rifle then we should support his legal right to do so.

Agreed.

But I also immediately leave any establishment that a gun-wielding police officer is also present in.

This happens at restaurants often, so I've learned to avoid restaurants that cops usually frequent, if it does still happen, I just put cash on the table and leave, I don't wait for the check. I also make sure that none of my banks have armed security or police officers as well as any places that I shop.

Guns make me uncomfortable and I don't trust the government enough to license anybody fit to have a firearm. So I just avoid all contact.

Thank you for your honesty. Thank you for changing your behavior as you see fit to make yourself feel more comfortable rather than expecting others to do so. I commend you on your position and encourage others to chose to execute their freedoms as you have chosen.
