Russia is going to be pretty hard to defeat soon. Most of their post-US tech starts in 2024 and equal is set for late 2018 to early 2019. They also have combined R&D across several other anti-US countries or previous anti-US countries.
If the puppet does well, he would strive to win 2020 by all means. Then, continue to prevent war with Russia.

We build planes to spend money but the former USSR fore combat. With the f-35 being a trillion dollar debacle I expect Russia to have air superiority within a decade. But here's the thing. If Russia starts shooting our planes down then expect there to be considerable fallout, and I mean the kind that makes people "glow".

There was an interception of old nuclear bombers off the coast of Alaska in the news with our F-22s against the SU -35. In this scenario our f-22 was outmatched by the Russian planes. You do know that as far as aerial combat goes that the Sukhoi are recognized as superior and not by Putin. If there were a Russian/US confrontation over Syria as an example our F-22s would be outmatched.
No doubt you didn't know that. Stealth is great but unlike Trump who thinks our planes are invisible they aren't. The F-35's? One of the greatest planes ever, on paper. Unfortunately they spend their days being in the repair hanger at outrageous costs.
Evidently you didn't know that either. In a decade or two our planes won't be invisible and we're committed to an unreliable design. The Russians won't make that mistake.
As far as other aspects of aerial warfare? The US is far ahead with bombers, but bombers do not fight. In a situation where our fighters and theirs engage that advantage evaporates.

When I see the OP, I think of a call for us to stand up and oppose Russia's attack(s) on us. For us to defend ourselves from their aggression by making them pay a price for it.

It is an act of war but that happens. It can be argued that it was true of Russians and US elections. what matters is the response. No one here is arguing for war, but a substantial response. Putin and his oligarchs have vast fortunes which can be ruined. The act of war isn't by Russia, that is its people, but a few individuals. Make them pay, literally, with their wealth.

People said the same thing about the Zero back in the day. It had a fearsome reputation. Look how maneuverable it is, and those 20mm cannons. Way better suited for combat in the Pacific.
Su-35 was made with maneuverability in mind, but that's a type of gamble just like emphasizing stealth. Utilizing extreme acrobatics to avoid harm usually has a detrimental effect on maintaining energy.
Without knowing the scenario or pilot skill, seems like a hard thing to gauge. This is all still just 'paper' talk, and history has shown us before it's not always about just specs.

No debate about skill and paper vs real world performance, but we do spend many times more on planes which are marginally better in some situations and more reliable than our F-35. Unless we start focusing on what reliably works it is inevitable that we fall behind on some aspects.

You don’t know how air to air combat works in the 21st century, and you don’t have the first fucking clue what the meaningful differences are between the F-22, F-35, and SU-35 are. Are you aware that the Su-35 is a derivative of the Su-27, which is a 40+ year old design?

And yes, I’ve read both texts in their entirety. I invite you to read them too if you’re actually interested. I’m willing to reciprocate if you actually have any documentation to support your ludicrous claim that the Su-35 outclasses the F-22. But I can promise you that there is none. Any information you look for to support your argument will almost certainly lead you to a small circle of clowns lead by Pierre Sprey. Do some research on him, he’s an absolute charlatan.
Overselling the capabilities of Russian jets serve the propaganda interests of both Russia and the United States. Russia’s government justifies its grip on power in part by selling the lie that its military is a capable check on American aggression. The United States justifies continued spending on fighter development by arguing that Russian jets are much closer in capability to its own jets than is actually the truth. That’s useful context, but it’s not the basis of my opinions. My opinions come entirely from reading news and information about the F-35 mainly, (because its been in the news) and other jets.

Modern air warfare? You read things, one promoted by the MIC, and cite that as to modern warfare. Much applies but books and articles do not engage and control a situation before it ever happens. You ignored the real life situation and the reality of the F-35.
Doesn't really matter in any case. We are married to the F-35 and you are stuck paying for it assuming you are a citizen here. In the meantime, China is making real progress (you can deny that too) and as China and Russia have ever more at stake with common interests then technology would likely be shared. Feel free to say that isn't or can't happen over the next decade or two.

The article is based on a report from the DOT&E, whose job it is to constructively criticize the program. You compared the reliability of the F-35 to the reliability of other aircraft, (“...more reliable than our F-35”) what is your support for that statement?
What on earth are you talking about? The papers I referred to provide a foundation for understanding air combat, they certainly do not promote the F-35 platform or the JSF program because they were written too long ago to do that. Again, I’m willing to read any scholarly papers you have that you think support your position. When you say things like “stealth is great, ...but our planes aren’t invisible” you betray a lack of understanding about the role of sensor technologies and stealth technologies in modern aerial combat.
For example, our planes aren’t invisible. Okay, what range can they be detected from? Can existing air defenses track and engage them? If so, from what range can they be tracked and engaged? If not, are there any theoretical air defenses that can track and engage them at useful ranges? If you would actually take the time to read “The Radar Game” or even the 4 page conclusion at the end of the paper you could at least base your arguments on some kind of understanding of the role of stealth technologies, instead of regurgitating worthless talking points from discredited “experts”.
Why don’t you post something to support your statement and then I can agree or disagree with it.
