8800GTX to be 30% faster than ATI's X1950XTX. GTS to be about equal to it.

if inquirer is right, The GTX is 28cm long.... that will not fit in my sonata :( might have to get a GTS or wait for the refresh and hope it isn't bigger than 24cm.

*eidt*

Using a CAD program and the image of the ASUS card from xbitlabs and the size of the PCI-E connector i get 23cm, so lets hope inquirer is wrong.

Straight from the OCP's forums....

That is actually not that impressive considering it's 05. My 7800GTs used to get just under 13000 in that. It's obviously becoming very CPU limited at that point.

I wish the people with these cards would try something other than 3dmark... :p

If the GTX can be had for near $600 then I'm still holding out for it.

My alternative is 2x 7900GTOs for @ $525 shipped.

$600 for a single card that should have higher Image qualtity options and DX10 support? At the high end it's worth it. Especially for SFF where there's a very limited selection of SLI setups.

ATI isn't an option. I'm doing alot of work in Vista RC2 and Linux and ATI doesn't yet have drivers for RC2 and Nvidia has come through with better linux drivers time and time again. (Not that I'm sure Nvidia has RC2 drivers for the 8800 series.)

It is not my intention to troll but a lot of you guys who are exited about and think a 450-650$ price and 0-20% performance improvement over current top end hardware for a new generation is good are sheep and hurting the consumer. Yes, I am talking to all you guys who waste a bunch of money on SLI and overpriced gaming hardware.

The concensus right now is that 8800GTX will be around 1.3x - 1.5x ( 30% ~ 50%) faster than the current highend.

Let's not forget that this is also a bigger jump, though, than let's say Geforce 7 was to Geforce 6. We're talking about a brand new architecture, DX10 / SM4 compliancy, which in itself will be a significant reason to buy, granted you're a serious gamer.

I just wanted to point out a different experience with the G80. I for one am happy with my GTO and will most likely wait for G81 in june if I decide to upgrade at all.

VoodooAddict: I wouldn't use GTO's as the basis of that argument because GTO's are a limited series and right now are out stock in alot of stores; And if they're in stock, they're selling for about $320+. If anything you should factor the 7950GT card.

With everything said, I agree that waiting is the best move for anyone right now, regardless of your position. There is not a game out right now that needs G80. I might be wrong, but the first such game that might need G80/R600 is Crysis.

The CPU will make less of a difference in actual games since most people who buy this card will be running at 1680x1050/1600x1200 or above. So long as the minimum framerate stays above 35-40ish, most people won't notice.

Euhm, using a Conroe @ 3.9 GHz. Let's just say that that is not the kind of CPU the average person has ;) .

I don't think that a $600 GTX will be the kind of video card the average person will have. :p

Also Quad Core is coming out as well......

QFT. I don't see what's wrong with trying to hit the ceiling of technology, even for just a preview of what kind of hardware will be coming. They were using non-existent Kentsfields and crazy clocked Conroes to inflate their scores so unless you have those, expect to get a lower number. Although, if you're curious, that's what you could have if you ever went that route.

Try Oblivion at high res and max eye-candy. It makes any modern day rig squeal (quad SLi might do it but I haven't seen benchmarks to be sure). FEAR is also just playable with Crossfire/SLi at high res and max eye-candy. A single card that could do the job of two current cards would be nice.

I'm curious. Will the November release likely push down prices on 7 series cards, at least a small amount? Or does it take some time for that to happen?

High end cards might get a price cut because they need to be cleared out for the G80.

I think 7950GX2 and 7900GTX will be liquidated.

Yea I had always thought the aforementioned were playable, not super fast, but playable a bit above a minmum level. It seems that you think its a bit below it. But deoending on what you mean by high res also.

Still, these are popular games but only 2 and the performance at 1280x1024 and under is still very fast with any high end ati or nvidia card.

Plus it never really hurts to wait, unless its a short term thing which a new product launch isnt, or you are trying to resell your older hardware. You just end up payiing less.

At the very least, I would wait til Vista drops and see what more mature gpu drivers, an early os, cheaper G80's can do with some DX10 action or maybe wait till crysis, project offset, quake wars, battlefield 2 patch 2.9(lol) comes out.
