8800GTX to be 30% faster than ATI's X1950XTX. GTS to be about equal to it.

Soundstorm 2 is the 2nd chip now?

Strange, as the cards have no sound outputs or headers for a dongle that would have sound outputs.

We don't know if it is that. We're just guessing.

Why would you need audio outputs? As I said above, the original SoundStorm did the 3d audio processing, the actual output was handled by other components. The processed audio streamscan be moved anywhere needed using the PCI-e bus.

I can see this having advantages for software developers, they can generate their sound effects, get them processed, receive them back , fiddle some more if necessary and then send them off for playback. Probably the main reason why DirectSound is currently incomplete in Dx10 at present.

It would be nice if it was a Sound Storm II chip. If most of the motherboards PCI slots are stuffed from the dual slot coolers and SLI, it'd be nice not have to worry about room for a sound card.

IF the GTS is 384bit, then ill be a happy man.

But for GTS to have both 640mb of ram and 384bit, it will end up with 2 memory controllers.
(32x4) + 2(64x4) = 640mb. Total of 12 memory chips where 4 of them are 32mb each instead of being 64mb like the GTX.

Unless G80 has a memory controller similiar in design with the R5x0 and somehow configured to use oth 32mb/64mb GDDR3 chips.

So... when is the NDA actually going to be lifted? I'd like to see some real reviews next week, before launch would be nice. Or is there another NDA to not disclose the NDA lift date?

LOL was trying to get some smiles into my post with the edit but couldn't ! wierd. Anyways, was just ribbing ya a little too They will end up faster, alot faster then 80%. If you think the AA and AF performance of the r580 was good, just wait and see , I wouldn't be suprised if we see x8 aa and x16 af with very ittle penelties on both the g80 and r600.

Just food for thought. We could be in for a big surprise. :D

I take everything razor1 says with 50 lumps of salt. The guy is a straight up liar in my opinion. He claims he's a developer and has been using that line for a few years now and went as far as saying he'd prove he was a dev to me and a few other guys that questioned his credentials by showing off his game at E3--that never materialized. Now he claims it'll come out sometime 2007...laugh. Personally I think he's on nVidia's payroll.

Yes i do agree with you. But his posts are never bias and has very indepth knowledge based on GPU hardware which i respect even if he was on a payroll. Hes very informative and can learn quite a few things off his posts.

Anyways, im really thinking the "holes" in the specs might have been the fact GTS has a 384bit memory interface for example, shown by the leaked images. But how is it possible to have 640mb 384bit using one memory controller?

Also noting that G80 might have something similiar to the memory controller found in the R5x0 series architecture. Because it says that the G80 supports GDDR4 memory.

No doubt he knows what he's talking about but he also read B3D quite a bit and I know he regurgitates a lot of what he reads there on forums where less technically inclined people reside. As for G80, I'm really not going to even bother speculating about it because it would be a waste of time. It's release date is almost here and we'll know very soon how well it performs. Personally I think it's going to be an awesome card and I'm definitely ready to sell my X1900 to get one--provided nVidia makes enough of them.

I'm really surprised we have seen nothing from the east who seem to take NDA a bit lossy when it comes to new products. I remember seeing 7800 or 7900 forget which benchmarks weeks before launch.

If you weren't too busy trolling P&N with your anti-Islamic posts and lame sigs, you'd see that they have already released a bunch of pictures.

All I can I say is nobody better publish results before Nov8 because then it won't be a 'hard' launch. :p

So there's only a 1 month difference btw the 8800s and the R600's? Better to buy med. end 8800 (GTS)... or wait and buy ati at xmas time? Or, buy a 7950GTX or something w/price drops hopefully on the horizon.. Say I want to spend around 400 bucks.

edit; ps: Im buying vista if that makes ne diff :)

I don't know where you got that from. G80 will be launched at the beginning of November. The very earliest we'll see R600 is February. Nvidia's next chip after G80 will probably be out in March - that will be the time to buy.

Now I'm wondering, would the 8800GTS be faster than the 7900GTO? I hope so considering the rumored price difference.

It's amazing how some people refuse to read the whole thread before posting some stupid ****** that's already been said. Does that annoy anyone else? It's bad enough this thread is based on speculations and therefore gives way to mis-interpretation pretty easily.

Your March timeline is pure speculation as well though... Customarily, the target for the refresh has been about 6 months. The 7800GTX launched June 22, and the subsequent refresh to the 7900GTX only happened on March 9. NVIDIA did launch the 7800GTX 512 on November 14th, but that was neither a true refresh, nor was it widely available. IMO your personal 5 month roadmap for NVIDIA is a tad aggressive based on last generation's timeline, I'm thinking that a refresh will more likely be closer to May than March.

Well, given the GTS os apparently roughly equal to the XTX, it would most certainly be faster then the 7900GTO. I personally think it will be faster than the XTX as well.

Some rumors put the launch at Christmas time and others say Q1 of '07 so where are you getting February as the earliest? It's a possibility not a certainty.

It's been a VERY long time since any rumours have suggested a Christmas launch. They all consistently said "January" for a while, but in the past few weeks the only date I've heard anywhere is "February at the earliest".

(shrug)

We'll see.
