8800GTX to be 30% faster than ATI's X1950XTX. GTS to be about equal to it.

*Sigh*

If that's true I just might as well get two 8800GTS's and call it a day. I'm excited about R600, but I doubt that one R600 will best two 8800GTS's. (Although it happened with my 2x7800GT's to X1900XTX, so who knows)

It's been a VERY long time since any rumours have suggested a Christmas launch. They all consistently said "January" for a while, but in the past few weeks the only date I've heard anywhere is "February at the earliest".

(shrug)

We'll see.

You're right about the Christmas date. I looked back at the recent thread that mentioned that date and the original source came from April '06. Whoops. I'm still crossing my fingers for an early Q1 '07 launch though.

if you check the link: the source is in spanish. I don't know spanish :)

That wouldn't be good for AMD.

Remember the days of Shader Model 2.0 vs. 3.0? NVDA had a 3.0 part available for a while before ATI did, and while it really never amounted to anything, the press beat up ATI for lagging behind. I suppose the same will happen if AMD waits until Q2.

They're already selling so cheap that they're hard to find now. Unless Nvidia releases a better performing card for less money, I see no reason why the xt should drop any lower in price. The 512mb xtx cards will probably get price cuts, though.

I hope that's just price gouging for now. That's 7800 GTX 512 territory isn't it? It'll probably be like 800-900 for the GTX here in Canada then. I remember seeing the 7800GTX 512 for over $850 CAD before tax.

Wow, I wonder how much it will cost to step-up to a GTS from eVGA.

I think you are forgetting just how good the cdn dollar has become against the US$.

I just cashed in a 40$ US creative rebate for just 44$ cdn. :)

Then again its not like prices have come down to match the new difference. Games still cost the same as when 50$ US would get ya 75$ cdn.

G80 reference design done by Asus

USUALLY MSI does reference designs for Nvidia cards. But we are surprised to learn that Asus came a long way and has created the reference system for Nvidia this time round.

Both G80 cards, Geforce 8800 GTS and GTX are designed by Asus.

The first batch of cards will be differentiated by a sticker on the cooler. GTX is bigger and has two power connectors while GTS has single power connector and is shorter. They both have the same massive cooler.

$449 gets you DX10 and 640MB of GDDR3 memory
...it is interesting to see that the main partner for the [g80 launch] event is now AMD, while Intel is in fifth place as a sponsor, under AMD, Antec, BFG and EVGA.

The price of 8800GTX will be sold at $650, but the recommended price of the 8800GTS is set at "lowly" $449, or probably ?499 in ?uroland.

For this amount of money, you will get a black PCB which is cooled by a dual-slot monster, albeit a silent one. On that PCB, there will be a chip with 700 million transistors, but with a quarter of units disabled - so, expect 96 Shaders, or "Stream Processors", as Nvidia is probably going to peddle them. They are clocked at 1.2GHz, while the rest of the GPU works at 500MHz. 640MB of GDDR3 memory is clocked at 800MHz DDR and it offers 64GB/s of bandwidth, all courtesy of a flexible memory controller, 320-bit wide in GTS.

$450? That's awesome, I hope it's true.

Yeah our dollar is not reflected in the prices...we still get charged more than a direct exchange to CAD dollars. Apprently the same thing is there in the car industry and it's due to the fact that car prices didn't go up by a HUGE amount when our dollar was low...so now they don't want to drop prices either...that's just what I read.

because they create controversy and so much fun...each time they get quoted, they get slammed on!
