The 6700 supply has been quite volatile in the UK at least. The 6700k was at £300 to begin with, it shot up to near £400 recently, and now seems to have settled down to £350 or so with the stocks being very intermittent across most retailers. For comparison the 5820k has hovered around £300 for a while and makes the price difference between 5820k/X99 and 6700k/Z170 very small indeed for the cheaper X99 boards. I'd seriously struggle to justify the 6700k over the 5820k at these prices (1£=1.51$ at time of writing).

Meanwhile I grabbed a 6700 for £245 at the time when the 6700k was over £110 more expensive. 6700 has now risen to £270 and again can be difficult to hunt down in stock (noticed amazon have it listed for £210 which would be an absolute steal if it weren't out of stock).

As of 11/23/15 the i7-6700K is $419.99 on Newegg. It was overpriced to begin with, but with how much demand the product has they can get away with upping the price (especially near the holdiays).

Here 6700k went up by $120... It's actually listed as 2 different items with the cheaper one out of stock. It also more expensive than the 5820k now.

Seems like a great time to buy a 4790K + 16GB DDR3 2400 and a Z97 motherboard.

With the current prices of Core I7-6700K there's absolutely no reason to buy one considering how much cheaper the 4790K + cheaper DDR3 2400 RAM + Cheaper Z97 motherboards available. Add all of these up and you're saving hundreds for what, maybe 5-10% difference (likely lot less if using DDR3 2400 for the 4790K)

Anyone upgrading today should really be looking at a 5820K if you're looking at these 6700K's due to the pricing.

I'm in Canada so prices are even more ridiculous today. Heck I paid $330 after taxes for a 4790K a year ago and just picked up a decent set of 16GB DDR3-2400 for $100 CAD shipped from NewEgg.

That being said I'm heading to PA for a conference in early December and will be hitting a Microcenter for the first time :)

I want the 5820K or really the 5830K for the extra lanes (I want the extra lanes for a Hyper-V or XEN project I have in mind, think assignment of multiple GPU's and NIC's for one PC to rule them all type of box) but I'm pretty disappointed that these chips are artificially limited to 64GB of RAM. Perhaps 64GB will be plenty for 6 cores but will it when the 8 or 10 core Broadwell chips arrive?

Anyways if the 5830K is still $399 US in a few weeks I'll likely grab that as even with the exchange difference that's almost half the price.

Check the Xeon E5-1620V3. Its a mere Quad Core, but it should be around 100 U$D cheaper than the 5820K, has the full 40 PCIe Lanes like the 5930K, and supports Registered+ECC DDR4 RAM. A worthy entry level contender for the LGA 2011-3 platform.

Hmm, tempting but only 4 cores kind of kills it for me. Good if you need registered ECC but I'll need at least 6 (ideally 8) cores for this project. AT $399 CAD though this is somewhat tempting as a hold over until broadwell chips arrive. Thanks for the info.

Hah, I just maybe got super lucky. Snagged a 5930K + MSI ATX motherboard from TD for less than what Microcenter sells their current combo's for. Pricing error I think.

That's $150 more than I paid for the i7 5820k and the same motherboard. Maybe they are just repricing it, and they did it before MC.

I agree it is overpriced but this is actually cheaper for me to get than a 5820K. Also the lanes depends on your needs. I want the 40 PCIe lanes for PCI pass through purposes for multiple virtual machines. 28 may cause limitations here.

There's also the ability to have full speed 16x PCI for each graphic card with enough lanes left over for multi port NICs and NVME drives. This is likely less of an issue but who knows when Pascal and Arctic Islands come out?

for the K series, it will be Dec 20.

Intel is getting pretty ridiculous. I really hope Zen is going to be decent. I had to get my 6700k from an HP Envy system!

I don't think Intel is being ridiculous at all here. They just can't meet the demand, so the stores are upping the cost. If AMD was competitive, then there wouldn't be such high demand, and they could keep up with supply, because more people would buy AMD.

It's not Intel's fault that AMD is so far behind. Their only fault is they can't keep up with the demand.

Exactly. Intel isnt raising the price, retailers are gouging because of limited supply. It is Intel's "fault" only in the fact that they are apparently still having yield issues with 14nm. I doubt they are happy about or deliberately doing that.

I actually praised intel on their prices like a month ago. Just goes to show you that a monopoly is never, ever, never a good thing, no matter how you slice it. :thumbsdown:

zen needs to knock it out of the park.

These prices reflect retailers gouging, not Intel.
