Unless you want iGPU, I'd trade ST performance for 6 cores, personally. Better value. And it's indium solder :thumbsup:And I thought that it was a really good deal before...now it's just meeeeeeh.
6700K comes without a cooler but recommended price didn't change one cent. Heh.4770K 350$
4790K 350$
6700K 350$
Yeah right. No cooler, cheap TIM and the same price. What's next.Removing the HSF from all enthusiast class SKUs would allow Intel to cut costs without compromising on product quality – not to mention the average end user wouldn’t have to pay for something they would never use anyways.
Considering that the good TIM and the cooler cost both 50 dollars.... Definately it got increased by that cost. And to make it worse, it is just the beginning... Once AMD dies with that money you will be lucky to get an i5....Retailers. Getting rid of the older stock.

So, is this just Newegg and other retailers jacking prices, or is this Intel raising them?
no i meant what happened to the 329 USD quad from intel with hyperthreading?
2600k, 3770k, 4770k were all under 330 USD.
then the 5775C and 6700k are 40-80 dollars more.
is it the cost of a die shrink?
It is the cost of stock buybacks. Apparently someone got sick of Intel stock only being worth $17 for so many years.
6700K is actually $350 + $41.50 (TS15A CPU cooler) = $391.50. Or $399 + $41.50 = $440.50 if using the actual CPU price in the OP.

For previous CPU generations the CPU cooler was included.
So $440.50 for 6700K vs $350 for 4770K. Almost $100 more. That's a big price increase when we're having close to zero inflation and interest rates.

Real question is why no stock cooler on Skylake?
It adds cost but offers little value to the customer. Lose/lose.
Newegg has a auto-gouger that sometimes gets a little screwy. But given the low supply, I wouldn't be surprised prices are going up.
I'm sure there were people who bought the 4790K plus an cheap H97 board and just gave up the overclock. The stock cooler is adequate for that. It just throws another 30,40 bucks you have to spend.

Usual FUD from you I see. Despite you know its retailer markup.
I can buy the 6700K for 335$ and the TS15A for 25$ if you insist on that cooler.
IIRC, the stock 4770K cooler was generally discarded by overclockers, though.
