Then what happens when minimum wage raises? Prices of everything that use minimum wage workers raises. Minimum wage might be an outdated idea today.

So what percentage of jobs in America that cannot support a person is acceptable to you? 50%? 60%? 70%?

Back in the 60s, one unskilled laborer could support a family. We are now in the position of two unskilled laborers cannot support a family absent public support....... and you are arguing for removing their support instead of demanding that corporations pay a living wage.

Well that's a reflection of how awful a person you have to be to vote for a goddamned reality TV star who also happens to be a pathological liar that puts ordinary politicians to shame when it comes to dishonesty. I love my parents dearly but I will never forgive them for voting for this trash. Doesn't mean I won't talk to them or anything but they are blood. Unknown riff raff on fucking facebook? Nope.

Hillary is the same, she just didn't have a TV show.

You are surprised that those who benefit from programs like affirmative action aren't speaking out against it? I've literally been picked over for less qualified people because I am a white male. I am a victim of institutionalized racism (or in this case sexism, I guess). But no one cares if people are racist to me, that is the social norm. What good will complaining do?

So again, are these programs helping or hurting black and Hispanics? You’re simultaneously whining about how disadvantaged you are by not benefitting from them and how those programs hurt the people they are intended to help. It can’t be both.

I'm 100% with you in some regards here, I'm not a partisan conservative, really. I think corporations have too much power, I think there is room for capitalist profits and morality, call me a dreamer. There was a time where you could get out of highschool and get a job, start a family, buy a house. Those times are gone, and we need to address that. Giving people free money for doing nothing and racist policies like affirmative action are not the answer, though. They simply have not worked at all.

In the long run I think these programs are hurting everyone. It teaches some people that they can do less and get more, that they are a victim and should act like one, even if they're in fact not a victim. There are two types of people, those willing to work to achieve, and those that make excuses to why they cannot achieve.

Again, do affirmative action programs put black people at an advantage compared to white people or a disadvantage?

I said, in the long run, it puts everyone at a disadvantage and causes harm to society as a whole. It is the left pushing for more racial divisions and trying to justify it.

It puts all people at a disadvantage. What may seem like help in the near term is harmful in the long term.

You are trying to create a binary situation for something that has a lot of nuance and subtlety. But, I'll play along... I think ultimately it puts black people at a disadvantage compared to white people, but again in the much bigger picture it is worse for everyone.

Your previous claims were that only white people are suffering from systemic disadvantage due to their race. You're contradicting yourself.

Thay have a clear advantage of being selected for admission to a university...but are at a clear disadvantage when mismatched.

The Painful Truth About Affirmative Action
Why racial preferences in college admissions hurt minority students -- and shroud the education system in dishonesty.
https://www.theatlantic.com/nationa...ainful-truth-about-affirmative-action/263122/

Research on the mismatch problem was almost non-existent until the mid-1990s; it has developed rapidly in the past half-dozen years, especially among labor economists. To cite just a few examples of the findings:

  • Black college freshmen are more likely to aspire to science or engineering careers than are white freshmen, but mismatch causes blacks to abandon these fields at twice the rate of whites.
  • Blacks who start college interested in pursuing a doctorate and an academic career are twice as likely to be derailed from this path if they attend a school where they are mismatched.
  • About half of black college students rank in the bottom 20 percent of their classes (and the bottom 10 percent in law school).
  • Black law school graduates are four times as likely to fail bar exams as are whites; mismatch explains half of this gap.
  • Interracial friendships are more likely to form among students with relatively similar levels of academic preparation; thus, blacks and Hispanics are more socially integrated on campuses where they are less academically mismatched.

No, I'm not. I said over the long term it hurts, I think that is how it has played out. Just in different ways, that I've explained. As in my experience, that many other people like me have experienced, in the immediate institutionalized racism is ok and even celebrated by some and that singles out and disadvantaged one race and sex of people. Over the long term affirmative action indoctrinates with the idea that people are a victim and should expect more for doing less. Again, this isn't a binary situation with a clear cut black / white answer, like most of reality much of this exists in the shades of grey in between the extremes.

This is another example of the left's heart being in the right place, but their brain not being used.

It either helps them vis a vis white people, it hurts them, or it has no effect. Previously you claimed whites were the most hurt, a claim you are contradicting now. If whites are hurt the most yet still end up ahead the logical conclusion is that they are superior (ie: you're a racist). If black and hispanic people are hurt most then the system disadvantages them based on their race, something you previously denied. (ie: you're a liar).

This is not complicated, these were always the obvious logical conclusions from your arguments. You were just too stupid to realize it.

You are creating a select few answers to your question and dismissing anything that doesn't fit the agenda you're trying to push. I answered and you didn't like the answer, simple as that. Affirmative action is bad in the long run and hurts white and black people in different ways. You push racial divides in society then attack racial divides in society. You aren't connecting all the dots.

No, I am taking your statements to their logical conclusion. If it hurts black people more than your previous statements were false about whites being the only victims. If it hurts white people more then we're back to your racism.

There's no escaping this, it's very simple.

I understand statistics just fine. But you guys have tunnel vision and think things happen in a vacuum. Let's talk about things since Trump got elected by the people of America, when Hillary Clinton was rejected. Since then leftist violence has gone through the roof. A year plus long temper tantrum by toddlers.
So does this mean that you're done saying the polls were wrong? I absolutely condemn absolutely condemn groups like antifa for their violence. It really damages the cause of the left. The problems arise when we try to equate antifa with a group like nazis. They're in two completely different worlds. For one thing, at least the basic goal of antifa is something I would consider admirable. For Nazis, both their goals and their methods are repugnant.
By the way, do we agree second hand smoke kills significantly more innocent people (roughly 5x as many) than guns? That's what the statistics say.
Absolutely. So do emissions from coal plants. I agree, many on the left often blows gun violence way out of proportion in terms of the magnitude of the issue. Also, I think a lot more research needs to be done to better understand the issue. I would be extremely pleased if we could get bipartisan support for increasing federal funding for firearm safety research. However, doing some simple things like adding some waiting times for firearm purchases and making sure all firearm sales are accompanied by thorough background checks is pretty simple and easily achieved. I agree, issues like polution and second hand smoke should get a lot more attention in the news. They don't because we're accustomed to these issues and people generally are content to live with them. Its similar to self driving cars. If a self driving car is in an accident, it makes international headlines. If a human causes an accident, it barely makes the local news.

I don't know how else to say this to you more plainly and simply than before. I'll give it one more try, see if you can digest it. Affirmative action, on the whole, is bad for society. Affirmative action is bad for both white people and black people and harms both groups, ultimately. Affirmative action singles out white people and allows for socially acceptable racism against white males in particular.

I don't even know why you're saying it as it's not relevant to my point. (I have no desire to debate affirmative action with you as that would require using statistics, something you do not understand)

I am taking your own words and drawing the obvious logical conclusions from them. If you want to say you've changed your mind and decided that blacks and hispanics are systemically disadvantaged I'm fine with that, but that's not what you claimed before. If you're going to stick with your claim that whites are in fact the disadvantaged ones then we're back to your racism again. Things like this are why you should think before you write.

Where did I say white people don't have access to these programs? There are plenty of white peopled duped into this lifestyle too. But it seems some minorities have been pushed into this dead end direction by the left in large numbers. The left is effectively saying some demographics are lesser people and need a handicap.
Watch out, they have statistics and numbers and data on their side and not the Star Trek Data guy, but real data that they make up and skew and change whenever they want to because we all know that figures don't lie................

Or we can wait until the numbers roll in on election day November 6, 2018.

Not going to get into the politics of this but I will say that engineering is perhaps the most difficult college bachelor's degree to get. My first few engineering classes, nothing clicked and I did very poorly. It took awhile but eventually something clicked in my brain and engineering was fun and easy for me from then on. I can see people hitting a mental roadblock when first introduced to engineering concepts. If they can get over that initial roadblock, they will be fine, unfortunately it can be a real bitch.

How to lie with statistics. Anyone can dig up some source to back up their view point these days, data is everywhere and and is bought and sold. These are the same people that knew we'd have Madam President by a landslide (and then claimed sexism when American rejected the worse candidate).

He firmly believes that his position of privilege isn't privileged enough, that's all.

It's funny, because as a straight white male from a solid middle class family I knew I had privilege at a young age just from watching how the world dealt with people who weren't that. I didn't know what to call it, but I knew I had it, purely from the accident of birth. I had other advantages, as well, like all of my wits & appendages, a decent intellect, as well as the time & place of my existence. Through it all, I've mostly been lucky. I suspect it's much the same for Slow no matter how tightly he can wrap himself in the shroud of faux victimhood.
